First Avenger OFFICIAL: Chris Evans is Captain America

I'm not too worried about the negativity. I've seen this superhero casting process enough times to know it lasts for a few months until the first in-costume pics are released, then 9 people out of 10 instantly start creaming themselves and squeeing "OMG Chris Evans IS Captain America!"

I can't remember a superhero/villain casting process that would've been this questionable. Well the entire cast of F4 and F4:ROTSS was pretty questionable and we all know how those movies turned out.

Well of course there was Michael Keaton as Batman but I think he was superb in the role. But if I think about the more recent processes...I guess Tobey Maguire was somewhat questionable. I never really accepted him as Peter Parker/Spider-man. Although I love Spider-man 2.

Someone never saw the movie Sunshine.

Thats what I keep saying to all the haters. For those who think Evans can't be a leader in a film of strong actors you need to go and watch what he accomplishes in that film. He is a no frills serious guy with a commanding presence. This role more than any other displays his ability to do cap justice.

I never bought Tobey either. I could never get into any of those movies watching he and that young guy who played Harry (forgetting his name for some reason). Watching two man-boys go at each other is difficult for me.

Serious? Most definitely.

Commanding? Meh. I pointed this out a day or so ago, but a writer at the San Francisco Chronicle said it best when he/she said that the actors were only effective in that they weren't trying to be too effective.

No way dude. Until they find somebody to match Liefeld's Captain America they need to continue this casting process.

:hehe:

Every time I see that I cant help but think, What in the hell was marvel thinking publishing this. Ridiculous!

I remember going to Cons at the time and seeing petitions to get Michael Keaton removed off the movie...I remember telling one guy to wait and see how he was.

Yeah I hear you dude. I thought James Franco was pretty decent as Harry but I just hated the way they handled the entire New Goblin thing.

I never understood how 'Sunshine' gained some kind of reputation as a "thinking man's horror sci-fi mini-masterpiece" or something along those lines. I thought the movie was a mess. Chris Evans was solid. But not Cap-worthy imo.

lol well you definitely knew what you were talking about. Keaton nailed that role. Initially he seemed such a weird choice for the role but he ended up really complimenting Burtons vision.

why are we using Sunshine as a guage on whether Evans can play Cap or not???
what role did RDJ have that convinced people he could play Tony Stark or Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne. He tested for the role and there must have been something in the test that caught Marvel's eye. Lets just wait until we see him in the movie before we judge if he can do it...as he wasnt playing Captain America in any of his other movies

It's happened with just about everyone, dude. I recall their being outrage within certain fan circles over Robert Downey Jr being cast as Tony Stark. "He's too old! He's too short! He's not handsome enough! He's a druggie, he's gonna ruin the film when he falls off the wagon!"

And let's not forget the heaps of BILE poured on the head of Heath Ledger, all the "Brokebat Mountain" jokes and homophobic slurs we had to endure, people starting threads campaigning for Ledger to be removed from the film and replaced with Crispin Glover.

Translation: I only saw Fantastic Four and I don't want Johnny Storm playing Captain America.

you don't what i've seen. i gave my reasons:

"Chris Evans. Horrible choice. Don't like the fact that he does these hot boy photo shoots. In interviews he can not even dress himself! HE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE CAPTAIN AMERICA. I think it's important who the man who will play Captain America is as a man in real life as it was when Chris Reeves was cast in Superman. How he presents himself in public life is important- at least in the movie I envision. Chris Evans is not Captain America to me. Cap is a 1940's man. Someone LIKE Arron Eckhardt would be the type I'd go for. Eckhardt could lead men on a battlefield and also has a genuine compassionate quality about him. There's no false ego when you see him speak in interviews. There's a purity there and real confidence. He has a '40's movie actor quality to himself. He can pull off the fish out of water aspect of a Captain America suddenly placed in today's world. It looks to me they want Cap to be some hip hotshot kid...We'll see but I'm worried about this picture"

and Chris Evans is very scuzzy looking. Sorry, not Cap. I hope I'm wrong.

I think its more my view not to get worked up over somethng you havent seen yet

he only has to play Cap...he doesnt have to be Cap in real life

Both finer actors than Chris Evans.

are you suggesting that Ledger or Glover should be Cap???

lol I'm glad I had nothing to do with those fan circles. I embraced the choice of RDjr from the get-go.

But you're right about Ledger, I'll give you that. I can't believe I forgot Ledger. I guess I'm getting old or something. That casting choice created such a **** storm. My first choice was always Paul Bettany. Ledger certainly showed everyone. Including me.

Oh god ..... :whatever:

I have been a fan since before the internet. I remember the fans upset because a soap opera actor got cast as Superman (Christopher Reeve)...and he was skinny before he got cast...and til this day he is still the face you see when you think of Superman. Remember how people complained about Hugh Jackman as Wolverine...until they saw him in action??? The Batman boards nearly melted when Ledger was cast as Joker and those same people who complained were calling for him to get an Oscar.

See what I am getting at. Here is my prediction. People will piss and moan and when the first costume pics come outor when the movie comes out people will change their minds. Its a cycle that happens on every comic movie

are you suggesting that Ledger or Glover should be Cap???

NOOO!!
Glovers hair is too dark and his nose is too weird!
And Ledger is just too damn dead!

Not funny... I know...

That does it, roach. Get out.

Common sense has no place on these boards.
