I don't mean to be a killjoy, but it sounds like Ben isn't really coming back at all. It seems like the "Villain" they are talking about will be someone who had a beef with Ben from the Lost Years. Probably thinks Peter is Ben. I don't think Ben will "come back" in the traditional sense.

But it sounds like the parts of the story set in the past might involve Ben.

Its just nice to see some recognition of Ben Reilly for once.

I'm actually cooler with this, because Ben did die in a definitive way. But the fact he's not only finally getting some acknowledgement, but an actual story centered around him is... awesome. I loved those pages with all those great Reilly stories and covers referenced. Looks like Guggenheim did his homework. This is going to rock.

“I'm going to do something that I did when I worked on 'Blade', which was tell the story in two time periods. The present-day story is intercut with a separate storyline set in the past. It's something that's pretty atypical for my Spidey work and something that's pretty atypical for 'Amazing Spider-Man' in general. The series doesn’t typically play with time that way.”

didnt someone here come up with this story alredy :P

also in those images spidey is holding a peter parker clone with stingers imo

Hmm... if Ben's not actually in it in current continuity then I may not mess with it.

Well I imagine if this does well enough Marvel will be more inclined to bring Ben back into the current continuity.

heres hoping. I think Ben would work well in the current continuity.

guys i had a terrible thought what if ben comes back and has no memory of who he or peter is?

Ben's not comin back guys, they're teasing the hell out of us. If Ben was really back they wouldnt have leaked those preview pages. Whoever that guy is that Spidey's holding, its not Ben, probably just someone with a grudge against him.

it might not be ben but im sure its a clone - he looks like peter ad has those stupid stingers from the other

and regardless its still a in continuity story featuring ben reilly even if the ben reilly segments are set in the past

You know, I am a little disappointed after reading all this talk about Ben only being in flashbacks and not really coming back. I was so hoping Ben's still alive somehow.
But even if Marc Guggenheim only confirms that Ben will appear in Amazing Spider-Man, not that he will be back, there is still the chance that he might return.
I hope so.

I'd love to see Jessica Carridine and the Daily Grind people show up again, too. :)

Whether Ben is alive or not is a bit irrelevant to me at this point, though I wouldn't object to a "Scarlet Spider" book on its own... but what I'm really happy about is the fact that after YEARS of ignoring it, the Clone Saga will be recognized again in Marvel continuity, as all past stories should, be they bad or good.

:yay:

I think we all owe huge thanks to Wacker & Guggenheim for all this new clone projects... and especially, swallow our pride and thank the big man, Joe Q - for the goodness of the existence of these new stories far outweigh the badness of the Me-fist-yo Saga.

Sorry, but as much as I LOVED the clone saga and Ben Reilly, I still don't think the goodness of this outweighs the bad of OMD. Not by a mile.

There seems to be two topics of conversations concerning our favorite clone. This quote is from JQ about the upcoming mini. I wasn't all that pumped for it, but after reading that, I think I'm a little more excited. Sometimes, I love do-overs (the two best that come to mind are Stephen King's The Stand, and James Cameron's the Abyss. Both are better stories when told with the original intent. On the other hand, Star Wars should have been left as is.)

Joe Quesada at CBR said:
This was actually pitched to me by Tom and Howard. When they originally planned the “Clone Saga,” it was supposed to end much sooner and in a different way than it eventually did. This had to do with a lot of things and none of them about making comics. This was a situation in which Marvel needed revenue very badly. The industry was sinking and a hit like the “Clone Saga” was very tough to come by, so marketing asked Tom and Howard if they could keep the story going longer and yet longer still, long after where they wanted to end it originally. This of course changed their story, but being good soldiers, they did what they had to for the survival of the publishing arm of Marvel. So, the idea with this “Clone Saga” series is to give Tom and Howard the opportunity to tell the end of their story as they intended it.

Outside of the background behind this story, what also made it incredibly interesting for me was that they had detailed notes dating back from those days, with their original story points and notes as to where they had to expand and what they had to change. It was fascinating from a historical perspective of what might have been and it all just blew me away. I’ve encouraged them both to also let us print some of their notes as bonus material, I think longtime Spidey fans would really dig seeing that stuff.

In light of Brand New Day To Pull More Of The Same Old Bull$#!+, I think Ben Reilly should return so that he can be the hip young Spider-Man that Marvel wants, while Spider-Man can still be the progressing character that we have gotten to know and love. Who agrees with me?

I'd like that. If they split them into 2 books (which would crossover every now and then) I would TOTALLY buy both Amazing Spider-Man and (Insert Adjective Here) Scarlet Spider!
