Ben is going to be back in ASM in continuity as well, according to the spidey brain trust at the Philly convention: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=21667
it might not be ben but im sure its a clone - he looks like peter ad has those stupid stingers from the otherBen's not comin back guys, they're teasing the hell out of us. If Ben was really back they wouldnt have leaked those preview pages. Whoever that guy is that Spidey's holding, its not Ben, probably just someone with a grudge against him.
Still sounds really cool though!http://comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=21667
I don't mean to be a killjoy, but it sounds like Ben isn't really coming back at all. It seems like the "Villain" they are talking about will be someone who had a beef with Ben from the Lost Years. Probably thinks Peter is Ben. I don't think Ben will "come back" in the traditional sense.
But it sounds like the parts of the story set in the past might involve Ben.
I think we all owe huge thanks to Wacker & Guggenheim for all this new clone projects... and especially, swallow our pride and thank the big man, Joe Q - for the goodness of the existence of these new stories far outweigh the badness of the Me-fist-yo Saga.
Joe Quesada at CBR said:This was actually pitched to me by Tom and Howard. When they originally planned the Clone Saga, it was supposed to end much sooner and in a different way than it eventually did. This had to do with a lot of things and none of them about making comics. This was a situation in which Marvel needed revenue very badly. The industry was sinking and a hit like the Clone Saga was very tough to come by, so marketing asked Tom and Howard if they could keep the story going longer and yet longer still, long after where they wanted to end it originally. This of course changed their story, but being good soldiers, they did what they had to for the survival of the publishing arm of Marvel. So, the idea with this Clone Saga series is to give Tom and Howard the opportunity to tell the end of their story as they intended it.
Outside of the background behind this story, what also made it incredibly interesting for me was that they had detailed notes dating back from those days, with their original story points and notes as to where they had to expand and what they had to change. It was fascinating from a historical perspective of what might have been and it all just blew me away. Ive encouraged them both to also let us print some of their notes as bonus material, I think longtime Spidey fans would really dig seeing that stuff.
I'd like that. If they split them into 2 books (which would crossover every now and then) I would TOTALLY buy both Amazing Spider-Man and (Insert Adjective Here) Scarlet Spider! In light of Brand New Day To Pull More Of The Same Old Bull$#!+, I think Ben Reilly should return so that he can be the hip young Spider-Man that Marvel wants, while Spider-Man can still be the progressing character that we have gotten to know and love. Who agrees with me?
