For everyone so sure Ben Reilly is returning, just remember we've been burned many times before (just check this thread's history). That solicit could mean almost anything. Might just be a clone-saga omnibus, which would be cool too.

Yeah you may be right... the cover is Scarlet Spidey and it boasts new about the Clone Saga... not a new clone saga or the reappearance of Ben. I'm thinking the Omnibus is a safe bet.

I have all the issues, I'll see if I can get my scanner to work and maybe post some later. I wanted to post Kaine's first apperance in Web 119, one of the best introductions I have ever seen:eek:

Just outta curiosity, how many people here have a copy of ASM 149??

Don't have 149 but I've got a pretty respectable copy of #151 when Ben gets thrown down the smoke stack at the start of the book. I also have a laughable What if titled " WHAT IF SPIDER-MAN'S CLONE LIVED" from DEC 1981, what if indeed.....:whatever:

I dont think anyone is sure he is returning - we are just sure something to do with the clone saga is going down this summer - be it the return of ben, a collection of the clone saga or whatever - so why not speculate?

I managed to get a very decent looking copy of 149 and 151. For a while I only had a masterworks reprint of 149... but the original came eventually. I tried to pick up every single appearance of Ben that existed, I think I have them all, I just need to grab Mighty Avengers 8. We're talking every single appearance of Ben or the costume, so I got the Backlash (?) mini, Ultraforce mini... Everything, we should probably put together some sore of ultimate list of every appearance. There are some lists in this thread but they are incomplete.

I think Im probably very wrong but I had a though yesterday - what if american son is ben!? its the sort of think norman would do to **** with peter, and I read something somehwere that said "who's in the tube?" in relation to it - I doubt it but something to do with ben is happening this summer

That was Steve Wacker in an Newsarama interview:
http://www.newsarama.com/comics/060905-Webbing.html

NRAMA: We've seen parts one and two of “American Son,” so far, but can you hit us with some key moments that are coming up - the can't miss moments?

SW: Sure – how about:

-Who’s in the tube?
-A game-changing gunshot.
-A correctly colored Invisible Woman costume (it was wrong this week).
-More Norah.
-Hulk vs. thing at PUNCH-OUT.
-“Do you love my son.”
-New Menace.

lol... never been so happy to be wrong. :woot:

I'm expecting something to be wrong. Marvel never does what we want. They always returns to something great and then 'improves' it to the point where it's rediculous. I'm expecting something stupid like Ben was never a clone but someone working for Norman to mess with Peter's life and now he's a full fledged villain.

no way. ill belive it when i see him on panel. lol

I think we already saw him on panel! Go to the link and look at the preview art. There's a panel of a grim looking "Peter" in a leather jacket surrounded by a sea of flames juxtaposed below with Peter in a formal suit at May and Jonah's dad's wedding. I think the "Peter" in the jacket is Ben Reilly. :wow:

I figured Ben Reilly somehow being alive would be the second big thing that One More Day changed and sure enough, it looks to be just that. However, you just know that there's more going on here than meets the eye.

For example, the article promoting the Amazing Spider-Man Annual #36 talks about a villain is wants to kill Peter Parker not Spider-Man. We see a couple of pages of that comic of Peter beating up some guy with long hair in a burning warehouse with a shot of Peter looking down on him that's cut to a matching shot of Peter at his Aunt May and Jay Jameson's dinner celebration. Well, I think it's pretty obvious that the flashback is that of Ben Reilly attacking the long haired guy and that long haired guy, years later, comes after Peter thinking that he is Ben Reilly.

I'd venture to say that the "Who is Ben Reilly?" story is going to be a case of mistaken identity, with this new villain not only mistaking Peter for Ben Reilly but perhaps other characters from Ben Reilly's past (hmm, maybe that's the real return of a character named Reilly--Elizabeth Tyne REILLY, the woman Ben met and fell in love with. Maybe they got married before they lost each other?), with Ben Reilly appearing in flashback, and Peter having to examine what his "brother" was really like and the things he might've done during the five years he was in self-imposed exile--hence the title of the story. Of course, the real Ben Reilly could return by the story's end, with the question being asked "how did he survive?" But I just have this feeling it could be a bit of bait and switch going on.

YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dont even care if he is coming back - being acknowledged in continuity is good enough I am so buying thsat arc - If omd has bought back ben reilly then its all been worth it **** the marriage!!

We're getting closer!!!

While it could still be a swerve: May's maiden name is Reilly and so it's possible there was a Ben Reilly in her family before and the person on panel is a family member with a strong resemblence in a flashback. Ditto the Who is Ben Reilly story? If it's about someone from Ben's past they could be mistaking Peter for Ben with no actual appearance of Reilly.

Now that I'm done being a negative Nancy I still think it's great news. It's another sign that the current team/era isn't afraid to tell Ben Reilly stories and refer to the Clone Saga. The X-Men/Spidey story, Peter taking Ben's name during the unmasking, the Clone Saga mention in Marvel Spotlight and now this. At the very worst, the waters are getting tested and fans are getting teased about a probable return in the near future for our favorite clone.

That would be INCREDIBLY cheap. Like cheaper than anything Marvel has ever done. I don't think they would do that. There would be no point. I think stillanerd had the right idea. Ben Reilly wronged someone during his angry years on the road. And now like the Louise Kennedy thing (remember her?) it's come back to bite Peter in the ass.

Although I should add this new villain wouldn't be the first who wanted to kill Peter for being Peter. Charlie Welderman (the molten man rip-off) attacked Pete for not helping him with his science project or whatever.

awesome! First I find out two new seasons of Futurama are coming and now this! :D

This is great news. Ben has been mentioned off hand a couple of times since his death, but was mostly ignored, like the rest of the Clone Saga, so I will be satisfied if the story is merely a flashback. I would like to see Peter mourn Ben like he does Uncle Ben and Gwen, they were more than brothers, plus he died saving his life.

In the current Marvel Universe there is plenty of room for two Spider-Men, or a Scarlet Spider, so I feeling pretty positive about Ben returning. I hope they go with Ben being alive all along, instead of an outright resurrection though.

Also, liked Pat Oliffe since his days on Untold Tales, so I'm definitely on board for the Annual.

OK, you guys do NOT want to know how emotional I got upon reading that article. Very hard to type between the spasms of awesomeness coursing through my body right now. Damn, damn, DAMN! F'ing good news indeed, all.

It looks like to me that the longish haired dude in the trenchcoat is a Parker clone, and the guy throwing him down is Ben Reilly. Trenchcoat dude looks shocked at the guy's face. Ben isn't evil but I can see him treating a clone like crap, like he appears to be doing here. Kaine syndrome...

Ben got me into Spider-man comics and I left them when all trace of his legacy was gone (circa Mackie reboot). I started collecting again when mistakingly thinking THE OTHER referred to Ben, and stayed ever since out of habit, or... longing for the days of old. But for the first time since REVELATIONS I feel a sense of importance in picking up a Spider-man comic. I feel like a long lost family member is finally returning to the table.

It's even the same motorcycle jacket he wore during his lost years. :wow: I wonder if Kaine will get a reference (or better yet, appearance)

Can't stop reading this Guggenheim quote over and over... complete coolness:

"How about reintroducing a character whose last name is 'Reilly'? How about the introduction of a new villain who will play a pivotal role in the upcoming series arc, 'Who Is Ben Reilly?'"

So this Annual which Ben returns in is NOT a throwaway story, we have a whole arc to look forward to in Amazing - "WHO IS BEN REILLY?" - hope it's at least 4 issues!!

Jeez, now I gotta get my s**t together and re-file my Clone Saga issues for a re-read. I've always had my Spidey comics seperated by titles but due to the crossover aspect of the Clone Saga it's been hard to toggle between all the issues. I think what I'll be doing is taking all the Clone Saga crossover issues out and puting them in story order and segregating them in their own comic box so I can effortlessly glide from chapter to chapter. Anyone ever done anything like that?

Yeah, I did it with "The Other" a few years ago. I unfortunately wasn't collecting during the Clone Saga (I was born in '92). I have, however, been getting almost every issue with Ben in it that I can get my mitts on at local comic shops. I probably should start filing that way, actually. The Clone Saga was my favorite Spidey era, period. I really hope they don't cop out this time.

BRING BACK BEN!!!
