Here are my problems with Venom.
1-he is overrated, overhyped & overexposed. I was into him once, too. But we see him too damn often.
2-his story is actually pretty damn thin. What kind of reporter doesn't check his information? And you devote your life to destroying someone who
inadvertantly debunked your story? And then, if you hate somebody, why model yourself in their image? I kind of bought it in the movie b/c he seemed to want to pervert everything Spider-Man stands for. But in the comics, Venom views himself as the good guy. Which is also confusing, as he can choose to ignore the fact that Spidey saves innocent lives, while he himself has murdered innocents. He's a constant self-contradiction, & Spidey's got far more interesting baddies.
3-Spidey always runs from him. Spider-Man has faced FAR more powerful opponents than Venom & never once backed down.
4-I fail to see what makes him so cool. He knows everything about Spidey & can come after him through his loved ones? SO CAN THE GOBLIN. He can mimic his powers? So can Mysterio. He can sneak up on him? So can Mysterio. He can counter everything Spidey doesn? So can Kraven. It's all been done before. And the whole warped mirror image of the hero angle? We've seen that before, too.
I'm just saying, he's not deserving of all the hype he gets. His fans complain about his lack of screen time in Spider-Man 3. But I truly don't see any other way it could've been done. Other than, of course, devoting the entire 4th movie to him, which I don't think he could have really carried. I think about the 2 cartoon series in which he's appeared. It took 2 episodes to build him up, & then he came up short of delivering anything truly exciting. THe preludes were far better than his actual introduction. Why? Because he lacks substance. He lacks motivation. For Spidey to be stalked & haunted by someone who's been in his life since the beginning of his career is FAR more entertaining than seeing a Johnny-come-lately do it. Green Goblin is a major player who has stood the test of time. And despite having had several imitators, he still stands out among the rest.
