Thats true. I still have comics I bought in high school. It makes me nostalgic when I re-read them, and then it makes me feel old. Nothing in the comic itself is particularly dated, just the fact that I know its over ten years old.

I'm 36. It doesn't take much at all to make me feel old. I work with a girl who was born the year I finished High school.

I'm 22 and feel nostalgia for the clone sage when I was a kid.

Here's something I drew. I'm not very good and have no scanner but... meh

It's copied from Tim Sale in Spider-Man: Blue

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #595

DARK REIGN TIE-IN!
The lead-up to Amazing Spider-Man #600 begins here.
Spider-Man editor Stephen Wacker here with a quick message. Look, this solicit is being written before you dear readers even know how CHARACTER ASSASSINATION ends and the major changes that spill out of it, so I can't tell ya much, but believe me, if you haven't been keeping up with Spidey...it's time.
Following immediately on the heels of "24/7", Spider-Man's world has become more messed-up and stressful than ever and the fact that his biggest enemy, is in charge of the world…and the Avengers…is only the icing on a really dangerous cake.
Now faced with hard choices about family and friendship, Spider-Man knows exactly what he has to do to save the world…it's time to take down Norman Osborn.
32 PGS./Rated A …$2.99

Its about time he redeemed himself from having Luke Cage take down Osborn. That was just wrong. Will he actually take Norman down?

Doubtful.

It is doubtful, but wouldn't it be awesome, if Spidey actually managed to defeat Osborn? Heck, even if he just tries, it would be awesome. Fighting Osborn at the position he now is would be the most ballsy thing Spidey would have done. Ever.

I'm so jealous. Finnish Spider-Man is in ASM 557. It'll take forever just to get to New Ways To Die.

If he does finally beat Norman, I hope he is beaten as the Green Goblin, not the Iron Patriot.

And this cover is awesome.

Great points, Demo. You read my mind. Norman seems to have forgotten his roots. He is letting all this power distract him from his true self. "You've taken your eye off the ball" :gg:

Now for the 64'000 dollar question: What's the verdict about bringing Harry back from the dead?

know I am a bit late on answering this, but here I go,

Harry's death issue was one of the best issues of Spider-Man I have read. He is held down by his father his whole life, but in the end he finally understands that he is worth something and saves the people who matter to him the most. Peter telling Harry he could be a hero unlocked something in him long repressed by his father. He said it himself that he worked on a new form of the formula and that it pretty much poisioned him. Harry's death added greatly to the Spider-man and Green Goblin fued. Gwen, Harry, and even poor Ben Reily where all very personal deaths and added to the hatred between the two. To bring back Harry is not only taking away from that rivalery but destorying Harry;s character arc and last act of bravery.

Agreed on all points. A very small part of me hopes to see more good things (and by that, I mean intense, personal loathing) between Harry and Peter but I'm not holding my breath. That wouldnt jive with the new agenda at Marvel. Harry is a plot device for the Hollister/Menace arc and he isnt allowed to know that Peter is Spider-Man. As the Marvel Bullpen has hinted at, Mephisto is keeping Peter's ID a secret. They ruined one of the best Spidey stories ever for this: making Harry a bland, uninteresting character.

Although I do think it would be interesting if Harry told Norman to shove it. We've seen him cower in his father's shadow before; being a man would open some new story possibilities and would actually progress the character. Then again, if Marvel wanted to open new story possibilities they wouldnt have hit the "reset" button to 1973.

I bought a Green Goblin TPB a few weeks ago. It was called 'A new Goblin'. It's the arc where Harry's shrink, Dr Bart Hamilton, takes on the mantle of the Goblin.

I have to say I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this arc. Normally I'd diss any Green Goblin that wasn't Norman or Harry, but how it was played out, and how they sustained the mystery of who was the Goblin until the end, was really well done.

Anyone else read this?

You didnt have to do this, Joker. :cwink:

I never read the trade, but I bought the origianal comics years ago. I'm surprised that Dr Hamilton isnt mentioned more in current comics. God, knows they like to recycle old stories these days.

Honestly man, I did mean to make a post about this some time. Like you said I never see anyone discuss this arc. So I wanted to know what others thought of it.

I'd file it under underrated. It was pretty darn good.

Did any of you read the story of Harry's return in Amazing Spider-Man Family that came out a week or so ago? It was written J.M. DeMatties. It was pretty good.

Also they reprinted two of the three Spider-Man drug issue's at the end

You know I never read the Spider-Man Family series.

Any good?

DeMatties has always been my favorite Spider-Writer. Did the issue give more explanations as to Harry's return than ASM did? It still doesnt make sense to me. At least Norman's retcon was kept simple.

Indeed, I really liked that. Amazing Spider-Man Family kicks butt.

I've only read three issue's and they all had DeMatties stories, so of course they'll be good. I would guess that the rest varies from issue to issue. They do print classic stories, but since I read Astonishing Spider-Man I get my bi-weekly dose of yesteryear Spidey already

No, the issue is has nothing like that in it. It examines Peter's and Harry's relationship with flashbacks to the Stan Lee era. What it does do well is show that Peter didn't accept Harry back just like that, it was a struggle to trust him, at one point Peter webs up to have their final battle. And he does immediately ask him where he was.

To be honest though, I don't see what was complicated about Harry's ressurection. He died but the Goblin formula fixed him and made his body able to with stand the new formula. Norman flew him to Europe where he erased his memories with a hypnotist, when they were gone he brought Harry back to New York.

Where did it say the Goblin formula healed Harry? It killed him and healed him at the same time?

It killed him, then it fixed his body so that it could deal with having the formula in his system.

Anyone here own this? It's gotta' be one of the sexiest pieces of Spidey merchandise I've ever seen:

Afraid not. I have one Goblin statue...and its broken. Its a cheap (quality) plastic figure on one hell of a flimsy plastic stand. Unfortunately, it wasnt cheap, price wise. I can imagine my poor mother having a heart attack in the store when she heard the price and felt how light the figure was. :o

Since then, I've been leery of buying statues and such.

Except for this:

The villain figures for Spider-Man 1 and 2 were excellent. I have two variations of Doc Ock. Superb detail. Same as on the Goblin there.

You have a pic of the statue that broke on you? I don't know many that get put on a plastic stand. Was the statue itself plastic, too?
