Hey, its an means to have Norman in his element: tormenting Peter. I'm normally critical of Spider-Girl for watering down its villains and making the heroes stuttering and naive, but I gotta say I liked the last issue. Norm tormenting MJ and baby Ben was delicious, as was

I loved it. I also loved how Norman knew Lilly was Menace all along, and welcomed her to the family.

Heh. I gotta love the idea of Norman and Lilly (as Menace) somehow breaking the ice over the fact that they got into a fight in the New Ways to Die arc.

Since Lilly was exposed to the Goblin formula, will it have the same effect on the child as it did on Sarah and Gabriel?

Oh and I picked up Character Assassination today. Not a bad story. I was a little disappointed that Harry wasnt in full Goblin regalia but I'm glad to hear he still enjoys putting on the mask.

I still love that costume; it has just the right mix of demonic & silly. I don't know why it didn't go over with fans-apart from comic fans being so notoriously resistant to change.

Like many others, I didnt like it at first but compared to some other re-designs (Humberto, I'm looking your way) it really kinda cool. Regal, even. The Gathering of Five was a lousy story, but it gave us a cool costume. Its tied for my favorite along with the Phil Urich costume. And the original, of course.

Off topic slightly, but would you say that Kraven beat Spidey? Or Gobby when he tried to make Peter his heir. Pete did look pretty defeated as Norman told him "You'll never be able to show your altruistic face again!"

For Kraven, I thought it was a good defeat without actually killing the Web-Head. I wouldn't say it was the ultimate defeat, but it was an interesting approach for sure. Actually it reminds me a lot of the second appearance of Doctor Doom in the Ultimate Fantastic 4 comic, have you heard of it?

As for the goblin making Pete his heir, I love that stroy, but it seemed more like a compromise than a true defeat, like a moment of Parker's pride was lost.

This is how I remember it, I may have some details a little wrong, but bear with me;

Johnny gets a demon in his body that will blow up eventually, and the only person they can turn to is Doctor Doom, who has real legs this time around. Doom talks to Richards alone and says he will save Johnny's life, if Doom and Richards switch bodies. Richards agrees. At the same time a zombie version of the FF called the Frightful Four escapes from their cell in the Baxter Building. The building is quarantined and all the Ultimates arrive to keep the situation under control. The zombies are using the technology in the building to bring in all their zombie friends from the zombie marvel universe. The FF arrive at the building and Doom, in his Richards guise says a chant that releases the demon from Johnny's body, but it will seek out the strongest physical being on the planet; it goes straight to Richards in Doom's body, ignoring Thor completely. Doom says he will switch back with Richards and go into the building to kill the zombies, because he says he wants the true credit of saving the Earth. Doom gets his original body back and defeats the zombies utterly without difficulty. The portal opens and he brings the zombies with him to the zombie demension, and Doom then destroys the portal. Being the only human on a planet of Zombie Marvelilites, he muses to himself that this might actually be a challenge. The Fantastic Four are credited with saving the planet.

I loved Urich's costume, too. Even w/the weird metallic accessories.

Thats the problem with comic book super villains: they never get to cut loose. Cant do something so outrageous that kids get upset and parents complain. How often does the hero show up at the last minute to save the day? So often, its become cliche.

Thats why these little tidbits (Norman killing Ben Reilly, crucifying Swordsman) are so refreshing: evil people doing evil things. Too bad it cant happen more often.
