I'm not sure if you guys like these types of mash ups or are sick to death of them but I would love Gobby to be as badass as he sounds in this video in a rebooted movie. No, I had nothing to do with it.

I love how he says "The Right Choice" and Gwen pops up onto the screen.

Did any of you guys hear that Hobgoblin was mentioned in the letters column of ASM 589. Wacker said that Kingsley may not be happy and cozy on his Caribbean island forever. I know that this is the Green Goblin's thread, but Hobby has always been a worthy successor to the glider, imo. It's been over 10 years since we had a Hobgoblin story dammit! :cmad: :bomb:

Wow, has it really been that long? Doesnt' seem like it.

Oh, its been that long, sadly. The last time we saw Roddy was in 1998, in the Goblins at the Gate story in Spectacular.

I'm generally opposed to the idea of replacing villains, but I think Hobgoblin was one of the rare cases where it worked.

They did it right when they created Hobby. He was a Goblin but different enough to not feel like a Green Goblin copy.

I always loved just like how Demo explained, that even though it seemed like it was the same shtick, Hobgoblin really stood out as his own villain, not a carbon copy of Norman or the line of Green Goblins at all.

Speaking of Goblins.

Im not much of a toy collector, im 23, really out grew the whole buying figures, but i was at Walmart the other day and they had a bunch of the Spec. Spider-Man Goblin figures and he looks so badass. Looks like a great figure, should i throw age aside and pick that bad boy up?

Thats up to you. Granted, I did buy the movie Goblin toy back in the day and I was 21 at the time. I have no plans to buy the Spectacular Spider-Man Green Goblin toy, though. Somewhat tempting but I need to tighten my budget.

I had an awesome Green Goblin figure from the movie(it looked cooler as a toy but it didin't have a glider, dammit that made me mad!) but he lost his head. :csad:

I still have the Doc Ock toy from Spider-Man 2 but he lost his glasses.

This is why, if you're gonna open it up & play with it, you should buy 2. One stays in the package.

I bought the 52 POA Spider-Man, but in one of my many moves he lost his right pinky. Problems with the mob, I guess.

Thats what he gets for being a rat. :cmad:

Anyway, I realized while day dreaming at work and ignoring customers, Hobgoblin is one of the few "spin off" villains to stand the test of time and maybe even rival the popularity of the original villain. (Carnage rivaling Venom in popularity being the other case.) Hardly anyone remembers the Lizard spin offs: Iguana and Stegron, or Carlyle with Doctor Octopus.

^^ I second that, thoug,h I do like those spin-offs you mentioned. Stegron and Iguana kicked ass. Same for Carlyle.

note: I took out the picture to save space.

Yeah to be honest I always liked Hob more than Green and thats saying alot because Green is my favorite color.

Norman was always the loose cannon that could go nuts at the slightest provocation. Roderick was the cold, calculating one. They are two sides of the same evil coin. :pal:

They were even able to perpetuate Hobgoblin without ruining the premise. The same didn't carry over to symbiotes.

Thats true. Hobgoblin was a spin off that had spin offs of his own: other Hobgoblins and Demogoblin. The Green Goblin is the "All in the Family" of super villains. (For all of you born after 1990, All in the Family was a TV show that had a spin off called Maude and others like The Jeffersons. Darn kids dont know anything....:cmad: )

I guess the difference between the Goblins and the symbiotes is characterization. The Green Goblin had a real personality. The Hobgoblin had a real personality. Every symbiote after Carnage (or even Venom) was all "Kill! Kill! Kill!" The symbiote is the more important character (if you can call them "characters") than the people they were bonded to. Even Demogoblin or Macendale failed to stand the test of time because they were one note characters.

That aside, I enjoy these videos. They just make me happy. :woot:

Cool.
Which Hobgoblin did Spidey fight while drunk off of spiked punch?

No doubt! GOd, both are just fantastic. The craziness is kickass!

Why haven't they been able to franchise any other villain like this? They've tried, but none of them really carried over. Only Carnage had any success, & that was short-lived when we realized he was at best a second-rate Joker & at worst a one-trick pony.

Well, the short answer, I believe is that they try too hard to either point out the similarities between the real thing and the franchise, or they make them so different that they don't even seem like a franchise. With Green/Hobs, sure, they are there, but it's very hard to confuse the two: it's like Coke and Cherry Coke.
