"Moved"? It never had a scheduled date before now, and they announced Dec 17th yesterday.

The date for GL was set last night, around 6 P.M.-ish.

And there wasn't a tentative release date for GL scheduled before then; everyone assumed it would come out in the summer alongside IM and Thor.

LOTR and I am Legend profited handsomely from the same weekend release as GL is positioned now, so if they do it right and market it properly it should bring in enough profit for a sequel or two.

Yeah yeah yeah I get it IT DIDN'T MOVE.

I actually think December is a good area to put it. At the very least it will be a good way to see if a movie like this can comparatively perform for the holidays when these type of films are almost ALWAYS set during the summer.

I think for a long time, studios haven't taken advantage of the holiday season for these types of movies. I think they can work there, but we'll see. Sometimes movies should be in the summer and sometimes they should've stayed in the winter like Narnia.

^I agree. I think the Dec release date is a smart move. I know Superman: the Movie was a holiday release, but I'm not sure what other comic films were released during the holiday season.

Frank Miller's Christmas Blockblunder The Spirit...? :csad:

Not to mention the super blockbuster Punisher: War Zone

Well not a comic film, but THE INCREDIBLES, which was Pixar.

But the Thanksgiving/X-mas period are some of the most attended moviegoing days of the year. Why not try doing a comic book super hero flick around that time? I think if this works it could change the playing field and having to unnecessarily saddle some of these films in the summer when they shouldn't be when there is a lot more room sometimes over November/December.

Also, Punisher and Spirit are the examples of how WB should do the exact opposite.

Agreed. And, the benefit of a character like GL is that you are aiming for random SciFi enthusiasts just as much as you are the action film/comic film audience, so giving this some 'breathing room' so to speak can be a positive.

A release around Xmas time worked brilliantly for the Lord of the Ring trilogy 3 years on the run. I remember people being really excited that finally there was something to look forward to at that time of year, cinematically speaking.

I also remember thinking 'why don't more film studios do this'?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One owns the coveted November 19, 2010 spot, with GL following a month after.

It's a pretty smart business move for the WB. Not only will they have two potentially big moneymakers within a month of each other, the final GL trailer attached to prints of HP7 will raise more awareness to a wide audience.

There are so many movies hitting theaters in the summer of 2010. I think it is a wise move. Punisher and The Spirit are just examples of poor promotion.

Yea as long as the film looks good and the promote it as well as like tdk or like im was for marvel they should be looking at a nice BO funds for the film. Hopefully we get news on lead soon and the first unit filming start time.

The holidays is perfect time; theyll be ablwe to capitolize on merchandise, album, sales ect. plus box office legs.

Duhamel would be a fine choice for the lead, though he's old. Roles like Pipe, Sinestro, and Hammond should go to more big names.

LOTR had the exact same release date and look how that went. It's an epic film you say, well isn't GL gonna be a superhero epic like we haven't seen? I haven't read the script so I don't know, but isn't it going to be grand in scale, and not about beating up bad guys stealing bags with money signs on them?

GL read a lot more like a summer crowd pleaser, but it will make money reguardless. They prob. rtook winter 2010 over summer 2011 because that has captain america and thor.

Thor comes out July 6 2010 not 11

I'm starting to wonder if they intend to promote the Christmas theme with Green Lantern because of the color green.

Like how they did with Spirit.
