Well, I wanted to gauge if my reaction would change over the course of some hours. And I'm sad to say that instead of getting better it has gotten a bit worse.
The casting of Hal Jordan was the first fanboy casting that I''ve followed and it was fun. There were some great debates and iffy moments but all in all I thought it was cool. But in the end I just feel shortchanged.
Its so weird for me to describe but I just feel that after Chris Pine, Sam Worthington, Bradley Cooper that to go with Ryan Reynolds just seems bland. I think it will be Ryan Reynolds starring as Green Lantern nor Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds (if that makes sense)
To at least try and compare it to something, I feel like I would have felt if Jamie Foxx was cast as a superhero back in 2004 the year of Ray and Collateral . Yes, Jamie Foxx (Ryan Reynolds) is talented but there are other choices.
I just feel that Reynolds, while good was mostly just picked because he's pretty bankable right now. its just a weird feeling (like the ppl who take a look at a picture of someone smiling and then cal lsomebody a *****e) that neither Cooper, Reynolds, or Timberlake were Campbell's choices. I just feel that the studio went like here are the 3 choices pick one and so Campbell did.

My thoughts are jumbled and hard to express and Im tired. But I still think we have a winner overall

I'm sorry but I'm saddend by this news. Reynolds is Deadpool and if he drops Deadpool for This is will be Utterly Pissed! I wanted cooper for the role(Don't flame me,He's who I wanted for the role don't tell me I was worng or why would I think that he is *****e,its my opinion I can care less what others think of him) with that being said I hope he owns the role and I hope he continues on with DP.

I don't know how I feel. I'm goning to go pick up some GL comics after the weekend so see if I can get a feel for Hal. Reynolds can be a good actor. If he tones down his usual humor. I don't want to see his character from Just Friends or Deadpool as Green Lantern. Because then it will just feel like Ryan Reynolds.

It's weird I just woke up because I could not stop dreaming about GL lol. Nerd alert!!!

Mark Waid twits about the casting news:
(1) I don't understand the fantrums about Ryan Reynolds as GL, and (2) and more importantly, I don't want anyone to try to explain them.

I have lived through Charles Emerson Winchester as J'Onn J'Onzz and Kate Whatserface as Lois Lane. I have perspective.

And Jon favreau reveals that yesterday Green Lantern met Iron Man. IronLantern coming?
Picture wrapped Scarlett. She was awesome. Green Lantern visited the set. One week left until picture wrap. Looking forward to down time.

Now that we officially have our Hal, I'd like to update what I think the cast will/should look like...

Hal Jordan: Ryan Reynolds
Carol Ferris: Emily Blunt (or Rose Byrne)
Sinestro: Hugo Weaving (or Jason Isaacs)
Hector Hammond: Karl Urban
Abin Sur: Naveen Andrews
Tom Kalmaku: Adam Beach
Tomar-Re: Doug Jones
Kilowog: Michael Clarke Duncan
Guardians: Anthony Hopkins
Some good choices. Adam Beach is too old for Tom anyway.

Would have preferred Cooper (actually I much would have preferred Fillion), but I'm more than happy with Ryan.

Would've preferred Bradley Cooper. But I'm fine with Reynolds, and anything is better than Justin Timberlake.

The reason why I didn't like Reynolds is that he usually plays sarcastic characters that have a youthful naivete about them. I think he is a good actor, but I'm worried that they will change the role to suit him, rather than he change himself to suit the character.

But in the first draft of the script, Hal Jordan was a sarcastic character that had a youthful naivete about him. :oldrazz:

Yeah! Great news and a coup for WB's to take Reynolds away from the small time dead end Deadpool film with crappy Fox studios. Now the GL film has a chance to be epic and fun much like Iron Man. Timberlake or Cooper as a lead in a big time franchise type of sci film like GL?? What a joke that would have been! Maybe some your guys *****e bag boy Cooper can take over the dead end Deadpool movie over at crappy Fox studios and Rothman? LOL

Now things can get rolling with this potentially awesome GL film! Reynolds has screen presence, charisma and versatility and is a solid choice! An Oscar caliber actor is not needed for this role. A fun charismatic actor with screen presence IS needed!

You keep calling Cooper a *****ebag for some unknown reason, the only one acting like a *****e round these parts is you, bud.

I'm done with your childish idiocy. Welcome to the ignore list. :)

Didn't read it, but I keep thinking "self-assured, snarky, good-looking pilot-type" and people have a problem with Reynolds? Can't figure it out.

There you go, you're talking to a post again.

I mentioned this in the other thread, but since it is moving so fast there, it was probably lost.

If he is signing the standard one picture deal with two options he would have to clear playing any other comic book character with WB.

probably...Im sure someone at Fox got yelled at or fired because of this

Hopefully it's Rothman's ass. But that's too much wishful thinking,

What do you think of the casting Blacklantern since you seem to be one of the genuine GL fans around here?

I was apprehensive when RDJ landed the Iron Man role and was pleasantly surprised. I expect the same from Ryan Reynolds.

I don't think so. The Deadpool project was Reynolds' doing, just like the Black Panther project was being talked up by Wesley Snipes. Reynolds was trying to sell the project and he had control over what the characted was going to do in the film, but there was no script, no director, and definitely no green light. Why would Fox fire someone because they didn't have to take a risk on a lowly Deadpool film? If that were the case, why wouldn't somebody over at Marvel Entertainment get fired? They were supposedly co producing the project along with Fox. The truth of the matter is, if they really want to continue with that film project, they could always find someone else to be the lead actor. Ryan Reynolds is not necessarily the be all and end all for Deadpool.

I still never got how people complained about RBJ when he was cast as Stark.

But with Reynolds, my only concern with him is him not being himself in this role. He has those qualities of Hal but it'll be interesting to see where Campbell takes him performance wise. Campbell's such a great director. Especially with the main protagonist. Zorro and Bond? All awesome under his belt. But Reynolds likes to keep it to the material so I think he'll try his hardest to be Hal.

reynolds is a decent choice. he looks the part, and is a pretty good actor. i'd buy him more as wally west, but i think this should suffice. cavill needs to step it up and be then next batman or superman. that supes project has to get off the ground soon or warners will owe the siegels/shusters so much money.

I was violently rooting for Nathan Fillion, but Ryan Reynolds is a fantastic actor. This only means that he'll become a more gigantic star, making Fox listen to him a bit more when he gets around to making deadpool.

What the hell is with this obsession of Cavil for everything? Everywhere I got it's Cavill this Cavill that. The man must not have a great screen presence if he hasn't been cast in anything that you've wanted.

Links to his performances?

Just heard the news-Glad Reynolds got it, tho, I was rooting for Cooper.

For me, it's because in the few comedies I've seen him in, his comedy bordered on Will Ferrell territory. And that is NOT what I want for Green Lantern. However, I thought he was okay in Definitely, Maybe. So I'm willing to give him a shot. Just wasn't my first choice.

I was hoping for Chris Pine or even David Boreanaz, but of the three I would've preferred Cooper over Reynolds. Simply because of what it implies.

1) No Deadpool spin-off. I don't think Marvel is going to take kindly to the actor that played just one of their characters going on to headline a major franchise from their rival company.

2) Probably no Flash movie in the works, either. With Reynolds pulling to play the Flash for so long, it makes it seem likely that a Flash movie won't really happen.

You never know though.

Based on what? Artists and writers have gone between the companies why not actors
