I've been trying to stay out of this particular argument but you guys have your facts wrong.

Kyle's book wasn't cancelled because of low sales.
I'm not making that argument; Franklin compared the sales of Kyle's series to the current volume (stating that Hal's book sells better because "it's Hal"), and my position is only that the comparison is flawed because the support for the book is different, and the climate is different. It's not a fair comparison.

Kyle's book also had a huge editorial push for the majority of it's 10 year run.Kyle had top flight talent attached to his series as well, myself being one of those people.
The issue isn't "Was it pushed," or "Did it have good talent," but whether that push and that talent was the equal of what the current series enjoys--and it wasn't. With regards to creators, please don't mistake me, as I'm not trying to imply that anyone is a lesser creator (yourself included, obviously)--I'm talking about profile. Judd Winnick, for example, is a certainly a known creator (perhaps less so at the time he was writing GL), but he doesn't influence sales like Geoff Johns does.

Equally, while the book may have been pushed, it was not pushed to the level that the current volume is, which has been positioned at the forefront of the DC line. This is not merely seen in the books, but even in DC's marketing material--in the Ivan Reis promo art for the 2.99 price initiative, the most prominent character is Green Lantern, and that's something that wouldn't have happened ten years ago. GL wasn't getting that kind of push then.

Because the support is different, and because the conditions are different, it simply doesn't make sense for someone to argue that the current volume sells better simply because it stars Hal Jordan.

Incidentally, I didn't realize until just now that you were the artist who filled in for one of the Ion issues.

Arrogance aside, WHAT?

Not only that, but every DC book used to have previews of Blackest Night and Brightest Day and now they have previews of War of GL. Why dont they preview some other book but its always the GL events? War of GL isnt even a DCU event, its a GL event only.

They weren't small though. As revealed, his book didn't get canned because of low sales... it got canned for a editorial mandate.

And Hal was never a big seller until Johns came along and Editorial pushed him. Throughout his years he got cancelled and relaunched numerous times. They even paired him with Green Arrow because he couldn't sustain his own solo title.

I'm not even a fan of Kyle. But you're attitude is kind of obnoxious and misplaced.

Geoff Johns' Green Lantern, as it is today, the main book of the DCU, as mandated by editorial, would be a top seller weither it was Hal, Kyle, John, Guy or some newly created character called Barnaby.

First off, it's 'your' not 'you're. You're like the 'Reverse Typo'.

Second, my attitude might be misplaced, but it's not obnoxious, Buddy Bill.

Its like the last supper. The artist managed to put his own thoughts on Hal's return and pushing.

Aquaman is leading the lynch mob.
Clark is like "oh come on guys you should be happy he's back!"
Diana is like "I'll throw my lasso, Batman you tackle him from the side"
Bruce is like "**** you Hal"
Hal is like "Haters gonna hate, i'm using lazors to cut the sand".
Only Barry is happy to see him for obvious reasons.

That's not how the comic industry works.

"The biggest reason it's popular is because it's relevent"

Fixed it for you.
I was summing up the excuses people were giving for why Hal is more popular at the moment than Rayner is.

An ad for the Chicago Comicon i just found in Knight and Squire #6 just as i was about to read it.

Just stating a fact. Kyle's series had a lot of top light creators attached to it's run including Paul Pelletier, Darryl Banks,Ivan Reis, Dale Eaglesham and myself. Stating a fact isn't arrogance.

You seem to be forgetting the massive push on Batman INC., New Krypton (Which I also worked on), Flashpoint. Every DC book also had Previews of Batwoman, DCU Legacies. Batman Inc., Green Arrow had a 4 page preview. What's your point?

Well, look man, no disrespect, but it's pretty clear.

Did Kyle's book be the centrepiece to numerous events that effected the DCU as a whole?

Yes.

Also extremely Green Lantern Centric.

JLA is completely irrelevent and is filled with a bunch of B and C-Listers, if that. Superman has probably never been as irrelevent and directionless as it is now.
Those are your opinions of course and I could argue the point, but I won't since inside knowledge is an unfair advantage.
When Kyle had his solo the same cannot be said. JLA and Superman and Batman were THE books of the DCU.

These days Hal Jordan's Green Lantern and Barry Allen's Flash are THE books of the DCU. Sure Batman is selling high and doing great, but he's over in his own little corner.
Again, Inside knowledge. Keep your eye on the Batbooks.
And the idea that Kyle's book got canned because of some editorial mandate is more disturbing than it getting cancelled because of sales.
no it's just a reality of the business. Not every creative decision is based on sales.

Wait, are you really him? Really?

If so, yeah you really are top flight talent, but eh i dont know if calling yourself that is the best thing.

That GL is pushed more than all of these. GL is now the center of the DCU the way Batman and Superman were during the 90ies.

I still find it funny how people are short changing Hal's role in the book's popularity.

Wait, are you really him? Really?
yeah, it's really me.

That probably came off more dickish than intended. Sorry about that.

Because there's a movie coming out. 2012 it will be Superman, then Batman and so on. that's how synergy works.
We really should get back to discussing the movie though.

...maybe if Kyle was this good, he'd still be top dog.

Hate that picture.

Bats must have let Hal do it, that's simply the only explanation. :D

I missed that issue but I'm happy to find [after a little research just now] that Bats made things even later on.

;)

Bruce had been an ass about everything. Let's not forget how forgiving he is of Superman who's been taken over to destroy the Earth a jillion times. Gonna hold this against Hal?

Gonna have to pop somebody to get respect around heeyah.

:D

:hal: :hal: :hal:

Nah, Hal was waiting years to do that and he used the element of surprise (and his own brand of prep-time).
