I think it will do, personally Iceman - think GL covers a lot of demographic bases.
Look at it this way, if this does well and is a hit it may well lead to some other space-faring characters getting a green-light (no pun intended) - may finally get to see and awesome cosmic Silver Surfer movie as well as a GL sequel.
And that can only be a good thing for those that have waited for years for the cosmic superhero films to get made.
I think that Lively was provided with 'shoddy' dialog in the first trailer only when she was telling Hal that he has the ability to overcome great?! fear or however that line went.
Her first lines in the trailer were her worst. I thought she sounded a lot better with the lines you just named.
Only if you hear them together. Personally I don't think those lines will be heard that way in the film. It sounded more like those lines were edited together. Her first lines in the trailer were her worst. I thought she sounded a lot better with the lines you just named.

"Hal." "You're late." "This is IMPORTANT".
I mean, when you think about it, that doesn't even make that much sense. You're late, this is important?
So of course the delivery is off. Because they weren't meant to be heard together that way.
If we watch carefully, we can see that in the first Trailer, Blake Lively's lip movements do not match the dialogue lines -
"Hal." "You're late." "This is IMPORTANT".
Which shows that the scene is heavily edited.
All I know is she was pretty good in The Town. I haven't seen Gossip Girls and I don't intend to so I'll reserve judgment until GL is out.
She was also in the movie Accepted, which was a funny movie
