That's awesome, though I have a feeling they may eventually replace him in the sequels with a more known actor, if he is indeed playing John Stewart.

I'd rather they keep Nick Jones unless he totally fails at acting.

As far as I know he’s still neither been confirmned or denied as playing John Stewart specifically. Apparently he is a Marine in a bar fight scene, that somewhat parallels John Stewart's retroactive first appearance.

There’s been no indication he’s named or referenced as John Stewart by anyone in the movie though, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up to much.
This isn’t like Terrence Howard in Iron-Man who was clearly named, given dialogue and established as Rhohdey.

This may be nothing more than an uncredited background cameo nod to the fans, if that.

I like Reynolds as Hal, if not for the fact that he'd have been a perfect Wally West. Too bad we can't time travel and bring back a young Paul Newman, since he's apparently who the original Green Lantern image was modeled after.

I didn't know that....very very cool.

I look forward to the day when we can bring back actors via CGI. I want John Wayne, Bruce Lee, and the Marx Brothers to star in an action comedy.

Yeah, google young Paul Newman, and then find some early images of Hal drawn by Gil Kane.

I think that Ryan Reynolds looks a bit like him too.

Kane's style evolved into the style as shown in the pic posted by Calvin. His faces and anatomy were quite a bit different over the decades. So much so that personally, I think Newman looks like Kane's earlier Hal in the late 50's/early 60's and Reynolds looks like the way Kane later drew Hal in the 80's.

I hope GL does well enough to get at least a couple of sequels with all this competition. It's the only truly cosmic superhero film out there!

Yeah, I think that would be pretty cool. Giving a literally unknown actor some exposure in a blockbuster movie as a major supporting character. As long as he can act, of course.

I think it will do, personally Iceman - think GL covers a lot of demographic bases.

Look at it this way, if this does well and is a hit it may well lead to some other space-faring characters getting a green-light (no pun intended) - may finally get to see and awesome cosmic Silver Surfer movie as well as a GL sequel.

And that can only be a good thing for those that have waited for years for the cosmic superhero films to get made.

Well, if the general public got into other sci fi films like Transformers and the rebooted Star Trek, then I don't see why they wouldn't see this film. Heck they even went to see crap sci films like Fantastic Four.

The marketing dept just has to do their part.

Agreed. Star Trek is the perfect example because more of their time was spent on ship and in space than on Earth

They already confirmed that, if John Stewart's role becomes bigger in the sequel - and it most likely will - then they'll recast him with a more famous actor.

I really doubt there will be any new footage for tomorrow at some random convention. It was shown at Wondercon b/c it's proabably the second biggest con & it's from the same company who owns Comic Con. Also, it's based on timing.

The thing is that it would be pointless to show the exact same footage if the people who attended the Kapow! convention already saw it.

It would also be a perfect opportunity to showcase a new Green Lantern poster without a recycled movie Hal Jordan face on it. I can't believe that certain people that have something to do with the movie would think that no one would catch the use of repetition.

If we get sequels, I'm curious to see how they'll involve the other Earth lanterns. Simple enough to explain that Gardner or Stewart is Hal's back up guy like it was in the comics originally. But I have a hard time thinking of a way to introduce the others beyond that.

It's very simple: They won't. There have only been plans for Stewart and Gardner so far.

Adding Kyle Rayner will just be a too many cooks thing, as his ass has gotten just as convoluted as Jordan's over the years. He basically is Hal Jordan Jr.

I still highly doubt Nick Jones is a cameo of Stewart. He probably just is there as a nod to Stewart in Secret Origins but only as a simple marine.
