The people who really think the movie is bad is really the comic book crowd but the mainstream audience seems to really like it so I wont be surprised if the movie does good we really only make up a small part of the demographic.

Then again...if its only appeal is as a mindless popcorn-flick, with none of the depth/integrity of the legacy that its core fans cherish....is it really worth it to have GL out there in name only? I would think that for GL fans, if the movie really doesn't 'get' GL and only exploits it as a vehicle for effects and kid-appeal...you'd actually hope that it bombs so that it shows WB that they can't do that...and they have to put more effort into addressing the actual content.

I think it'd be rather strange for a comic/GL fan to say something on the order of..."yeah, it wasn't a good representation of GL, and what makes GL great...but hopefully it'll make good money as a popcorn flick so that it'll get a sequel."

If it's a bad and unsuccessful film, then so much the better, no?

I guess, but if I was given the choice over a sequel that they were determined to improve on, or no more green lantern movies, I would choose the sequel.

If they decide to reboot, that'd probably be a decade away, and we'd lose MCD, rush, and strong. That would be depressing.

Who says the sequel would be an improvement? It's got the same writers as this one. And if this film is successful, all that says to WB is that audiences accept mediocrity, so why bother putting effort in to improve?

I'd rather they stop...then leave the option to rethink and reboot later down the road, instead of putting more money into damaged goods to try and salvage it. Better to save that money, learn from mistakes, and put it towards something done better from the outset.

I'm sure there'll always be good actors to choose from. Sucks for GL fans, for sure, but they'll always have their good comics and other material while the embarrassment of a bad film quickly fades away.

I missed those. What were they? I caught the Star Sapphire ones.
The Lost Sector in which Abin Sur imprisioned Parallax is Sector 666, home of the Empire of Tears, that, in the comics, were exterminated by the Manhunters after Krona reprogrammed then to prove a point to the other Guardians. The Massacre of Sector 666 is what caused the Guardians of the Universe to abandon the Manhunters and form the Green Lantern Corps, at which point the Manhunters became sentient and declared war on their former masters.

I think that reporter was very diplomatic she didn't go right out and say: "How do you feel about sucky reviews!!!!??". She asked if he thinks the opinions being bandied around are fair, and he gave a predictable answer. It wasn't that bad. Although he does look kinda sad.

Yeah that's how I saw it too.

Im not saying its right I was just saying even though the real fans dont like it that the mainstream might embrace it. And end up making it a huge amount of money but to be honest I dont think its going to do more than 300 Mill thats an insane amout of money.
I think its BS that studio change the plot so every one can understand it versus making it loyal to the source material because if it wasnt for us the comic book fans the ones who actually know the back story spend our money on these books these movies would never have gotten made.

There's no good solution. If it fails, it's just as likely we'll get a LESS faithful film. Remember when they wanted to do it without the ring?

I honestly have no idea what the reviews (and some of you) are talking about, Green Lantern was amazing!

I loved every thing about it. The fights were awesome, Oa looked fantastic, Hector was creepy as hell, Ryan was wonderful, the CGI was great, the pacing was near-perfect and the jokes were spot on! Sure it wasn't 100% faithful to the comics, but what movie is? GL was very fun and exciting.

I went in expected to be disappointed, but I came out with a huge smile on my face. I can't wait to go see it again!

Yeah, but to be honest...they're not out to pay that 'loyalty' back with movies. they pay that back with more comics...which fans keep buying...and so on and so forth.... :O

Yeah that's how I saw it too.

That's the best option.

IF it's bad and unsuccessful. If it turns out to be a good money-maker despite the bad reviews/reactions...all bets are off...and the law of business is to keep milking the cow until you know it's dead.....

...then make sure you can't resurrect it...and get a second opinion....then get a second opinion about the second opinion...and....

;)

Im not sure if this is true but I remeber hearing in some interview the people were talking about the state of comic books and. How the movies are making a lot of cash and how the actual comic book industry ist doing that great. Im not sure if its true I dont know were to find how much issues sold and what not.

If they did go that route, I don't think I'd be able to convince myself that I was upset. Besides, in 10 years, we'll probly have the technological capability to really make the CGI suit deal look amazing.

That's the one aspect that should be carried over into a reboot. It makes green lantern unique from the other superheroes, and allows him to emote with a mask.

They did it with batman and the black rubber suit, so they can do it with GL.

Is online/digital/piracy cutting into it like with the music industry?

I would assume so I know some people I talk to on other forums download books because of the crazy events and stuff but at same time comic books them selfs have lost popualrity (cant spell) I think the 90s was the last time the industry was doing great like Millon + sales. But superman batman etc remain relevant despite that.

from Mark Millar's Twitter:
“I hereby declare Green Lantern the worst superhero movie ever made. And yes I count The Phantom and The Shadow as superhero movies.

Green Lantern was the cheapest-looking 300 million dollar movie I’ve ever seen. Why didn’t they give that money (to) Africa?

It had a couple of good moments, all coming from Mark Strong. But oh man.

It was just such an ODD movie. Like it travelled here from a parallel universe where they made a Green Lantern movie in 1995.

But it was only eight quid and thus worth it. And I know I’ll go and see it again ”

:funny:

WTF is he talking about? GL was awesome. If he could do any better, I'd love to see it.

Because you read too many comic books!

That's pretty cool. You could even see the destroyed planets and moons in the sector which was awesome.

Did anyone else think the cinematography in this movie was absolutely breath taking? I mean, there were some moments that dropped my jaw.
