I watched the movie once and wasn't too impressed by it, then yesterday I watched it again and thought it was slightly better. I honestly believe that between this and Iron Man 2 that Iron Man 2 is superior due to having less major issues. I am tired of the notion that a comic book movie requires comedy in order to be acceptable, there has been many movies that did just fine without a trace of humor in them, especially some comic book movies. I think what prevents the movie from being solid are things that I consider major problems such as a lame main antagonist, excessive comedy, pepper killing off the mandarin. The third and final fight. It was too fast paced and too dark to see the action and the marks, speaking of the marks, what was the point of show casing them when they were hard to see? I wasn't a fan of the empty marks operating without stark in them either, from a story point of view it made sense but still. I am more of a fan of Stark when he's in the suit than when he's not in it.

I dunno man... It had 3rd movie curse all over it for me. I honestly think Spider Man 3 was a bit better and I didn't really like that movie all that much either. That is just my honest opinion, no trolling.

Spiderman 3 came to mind to me as well....At least IM had Downey.

I really enjoyed Iron Man 3. It's a little late to review it , but overall I'm satisfied with the conclusion.

Well...I loved it. I mean, I can see why some people wouldn't, and there are a couple of issues I had with it, but mostly this just felt like a true Shane Black blockbuster, which is exactly what I was hoping for, tbh. Can't complain. Looking forward to seeing it again this weekend.

I thought this movie was pretty hollow.

It's core doesn't ring true; the whole thing about Tony not being able to sleep, panic attacks at the sound of "new york" etc wasn't gripping or believable to me.

The spectacle was nice, probably the peak of what can be done with Iron Man. However, these solo movies are never going to live up to what the Avengers can do, spectacle-wise. So it can't rely on that. Rather, these solo movies, now, post-Avengers, need to have a strong character-based core. I felt like Shane Black knew that. But the meat just isn't there.

Spider-man 3 was just a mess, too many vastly different plotlines running concurrently, made it seem confused and therefore it lacked any real thematic consistency which IM3 certainly has, in fact in terms of depth and themes it's easily the tightest in the MCU filmography. Tony Stark's main character arc of using his safety blanket of constant suit building and his lack of sleep and anxiety attacks being caused by the events of the Avengers and solved and answered in this film thanks to stripping down and deconstucting what really makes him Iron Man is to me far more enthalling than whatever was going on in Cap/Thor or the Avengers.

I also prefered how the action meant something and wasn't just put there to get a reaction out of the audience, to me that will always be the better form of action, something that means something plotwise and speaks to the themes of the character and the franchise as a whole rather than random explosions and gags.

I was entertained by SM3 but it really is a mess of a movie. When a bulter has to join the dots to the main villain for things to make sense then your scriptwriters need to be brought round the back of the shed and shot.
That said SM3 left be disappointed whilst IM3 left me angry.

I'm one of the very few people who doesn't hate Spider-Man 3, but Iron Man 3 is 10 times the movie that is, easily.

Sure, I prefer the first Iron Man film over the third, but Iron Man 3 is a very worthy sequel, whereas Spider-Man 3 was nowhere near the quality of what it should have been. Iron Man 3 does not make me think "Third Movie Curse" whatsoever. Not even close.

The action in The Avengers was amazing because it was the first movie of its kind. You had to do things for the audience in that instance, honestly. Seeing all of those characters kicking butt together was awesome in every way. For me personally, it was a dream come true.

A good way to follow up a big and bombastic movie like The Avengers is to make things more personal for the solo movies, like you said. I completely agree that Shane Black understood this, and I think he delivered a great comic book movie that threw a few curve balls to keep the people on their toes.

At no stage was I angered by SM3, sure, I thought bits didin't make sense, plots are introduced and then dropped, you have coincidence and happenstance but at no stage was I angered by what I was watching.
I was seething at the end of IM 3, SEETHING.

Fair enough. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same thing. :) I still catch grief from people because the last comic book movie that left me seething was The Amazing Spider-Man (but that's a whole other topic).

Was it the twist in Iron Man 3 that got you upset? The twist didn't bother me, but I can totally understand why it would make some people angry and disappointed.

The action was such a disappointment.

Interesting. How? Did the lack of Iron Man being on screen for a good part of the movie affect your feelings about a lot of the action scenes? I'm asking because I've heard a few people criticize that there was too much Stark, and not enough Iron Man.

Personally, I thought the action was really creative (especially the final fight where Tony had to go through multiple suits to fight The Mandarin).

No, the Mandarin's VISUAL aspects were made into a joke, which they have always been, a sick, racist joke. The great aspects and motives of the character were given to the REAL Mandarin in the film, Pearce.

Quoting this because it's exactly how I felt. I'm not a big Iron Man comics fan, so I can totally understand those feeling like they've been sucker punched a bit, but for me, The Mandarin was in the movie. And his threats throughout the film were real.

His threats were just being spoken by a mouthpiece is all.

Film was a great 8/10 for me. And I think I'll like it more on subsequent viewings as well.

For me the action just felt like it was going through the motions.
the 'skydive' part was the only "wow" moment for me.

compared to basic stuff from 1 like the hostage scene, lasers in 2, multirocket from Avengers which I enjoyed more.

It's the twist, up that point I was engaged and after the reveal I totally checked out of the movie, I was like, 'I'm done'.
I'm really interested to hear why ASM left you angered (I really liked it BTW). PM if it is a long story as to not clog up the thread. Cheers :)

Is it a spoiler to mention the skydive.
The skydive is the highlight of the movie for me, up there with the SM2 train fight for sheer edge of your seat tension.

I don't think so because its kinda in the trailer and as long as you don't go into detail.

I agree.

3rd movie curse strikes again but people saying its as bad as SM3 are oversteppng the mark a tiny lil bit. 6/10 key factors were of course the manderin and pepper, too much comedy where i felt it intervened with the main plot and lastly what was the point of the end of credits scene . My cinema was not happy there were a few boos. Really is a shame this movie couldn't of been solid and an improvement on 2 . In some ways it was in others it falls on its face.

Edit sorry for past spoilers

I think that fighting in the suit probably helped in with fighting skills, or at least knowledge outside the suit as well. It's not like the suit was doing all the work lol.

Well, they sure fixed that in IM3 :awesome:
