Comics Official NEW EXILES Discussion Thread

Marvel writer Jeff Parker has announced on his blog that while Agents of Atlas is safe for now, his other new series — Exiles — will be ending with Issue #6.

As for EXILES… well, as they say, you can’t save every patient. The best we did was a momentary blip with issue one of the relaunch, and sales went right back to where they were previously. In hindsight, maybe we should have waited a year or two before trying it. It was a blow to me, I was having a great time working with Salva Espin and Casey Jones, and felt I was getting into a good groove with issues that you’ll never see. At least Marvel did me a solid and gave me a double sized issue in 6 to wrap things up. Curious to see what you think of how it… choke… ends.

Parker also discusses in this blog post that the upcoming X-Men vs. Atlas is not a death knell for the series, but that Marvel is trying different ways to convert its critical acclaim into sales. “I can’t give too much away right now,” he wrote, “but you’ll see that you’re going to have quite a bit of Atlas action coming up.”

As a fan of the original Judd Winick run of the series, it’s a shame that this iteration of Exiles is ending. The series followed an ever-changing cast of characters from the Marvel multiverse, as they were guided from one parallel universe to the next, righting wrongs and generally having fun with “What If?” continuity — and you could tell Parker was having a lot of fun with it. What say you, Rama readers?

Son of a *****. I've heard nothing but good stuff about this new one, how could they just give up on it so fast?

I've bought all the issues so far, and word of mouth certainly seemed good with people saying that they hadn't picked up Exiles since Claremont took over and were liking what they were seeing, so it's not hard to think that this might have stood a chance.

Oh I see. Sounded like you had ONLY heard buzz about it.

I thought it was decent but didnt think it was great.

SIGH.

HOLY SPIT.

am i so out of touch that what i like ,.... everyone else hates?

oh well.
Hasn't been the same since Judd left.
New restart was quite good, but didnt seem to entirely dazzle that much. I think too many characters (ie. Scarlet Witch, Polaris, Forge) were too similar to their established characters. Exiles is the book that needs serious originality and imagination or it just wont cut it.

...at least it was better than New Exiles.

You never know the stories that were to be told may happen in minis I was so buying this book in TPB!!!

Trapped in what will soon be a purely robotic world, The Exiles find out that drastic steps were taken to save humanity, and even machines can have secrets! But one of the Exiles has a secret too - one that can destroy the whole mission when revealed. (And Morph finally pokes his head back in!)

Simple Question is Quicksilver even in Exiles #2 ? I have all of them but the first 2 issues
Please respond Thank
Sad it's getting cancled

Wow. They actually named the issue "The Humans Are Dead"? That's a pretty neat Flight of the Conchords reference.

MUST..bring Blink...and Morph...and Nocturne(wherever she is now)

To bad its over,
They introduced some interesting Exile ideas but never got a good chance to explore them (like Panther's questions about who decides the path a universe is meant to take. Maybe Earth was meant to be ruled by robots in that universe.)
They never even got a good chance to do too many exiles things, they only traveled to two alternate realities and never lost a team member and had to replace them with another alternate reality person.

I'm bummed because its over, and most likely wont return.
But I'm glad there is one less comic i feel compelled to buy.

(just an idea, but if they Exiles series is gone for good. Canceled after only a few issues. Then the regular Marvel Universe should bring them in every now and then. Like when a character travels into another universe, an alternate future, or something like that. Like how the Watcher shows up every now and then.)

EXILES #6

STORY BY Jeff Parker
ART BY Salvador Espin
COLORS BY Tony Washington
LETTERS BY Simon Bowland
COVER BY Salvador Espin
PUBLISHER: Marvel Comics
COVER PRICE: $3.99
RELEASE DATE: Wed, September 2nd, 2009

The Exiles are back to finish what they started in their first mission, and its Panther knows how to bring down the mutant alliance! (Hint: involves mutants getting nekkid) Also, Morph returns to prep the team for a new mission to a world where "science" never caught on so much.

Wow. Morph's bitter recap felt a lot like Parker was venting. With good reason, I suppose.

Wow. Morph's bitter recap felt a lot like Parker was venting. With good reason, I suppose.

No doubt.

Serious aside for a sec:

I fully understand the bottomline in the comic industry but.

I feel both companies are cutting themselves off at the knees by not putting enough time into a series before canceling it.

Exiles is a great example,... How many "restarts" have we had?

I have no idea what's going on in this title.

Even with the solicits and previews it's still confusing.

It's moot now. #6 is the final issue it's been cancelled. Long story short, Morph and Blink apparently assembled a new team of Exiles using the same deceptive way they were recruited into the Exiles themselves. Blink is part of this new team of Exiles, but she's pretending she's just as new and confused as the rest of the team.

From how the story ended, it seems like this wasn't planned to be the last story.
Or maybe I am just imagining things.
But they had an unused cover, and it looks like a subplot set up on the last page that will never pay off and just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

No, you're not imagining it. The ending was rather abrupt and not something Parker really expected or planned for.

At least they gave him a chance to try and wrap up what he was building in a nice little way. If abrupt and feeling a little forced. I did like how he was able to retcon some of Claremont's BS though. I didn't see [blackout]Beast[/blackout] being gay though, but it worked. I am glad that it's left open for Blink, Nocturne, Morph, etc. to still be active and around for others to use, but I wish it was a little more easy for them to come to the main reality.

I liked how he was able to rap up stuff in a very great way, his ideas on how to connect everything and wrap it up (and retcon it) was really great. Reminded me of the GL Rebirth that retconned the gray hair, his turning into the Spector, turning evil, and all that, in a nice little package.

I just didn't like the abrupt ending [BLACKOUT]Last few panels revealing that the Witch was killed by Emma and the evil Scarlet Witch took her place.[/BLACKOUT]
Made it seem like he planned something else, but if he had a chance to do a whole issue wrapping everything up, then why didn't he take out that panel?

I do like the idea of the Exiles still being there, now working in a cool new capacity, and showing that there are several secret Exiles all over time and space. It almost forces the Marvel Universe to have some version of the Exiles pop up now and then, as guest stars, if not their own series. Or maybe during a major event.

I just re-read the end of exiles and the clermont stuff becuase the trade was only 4.57 at BAM!.....holy smokes was that clermont stuff bad.

I really miss exiles. Clermont just destroyed it...

Probably in consideration for one of the worst stints on a great book.

Exiles should be a lock tight marvel staple..unlimited story poetential.

SO was this short lived new Exiles collected?
