It's called reference, and just about every artist uses it to some degree.

Guys like Greg Land and Alex Ross use it to draw people in photo-realism, as opposed to ... not-so-photo-realistic.

There's a story told by Marc Silvestri about how Mike Turner absolutely sucked at drawing and focusing his art until someone told him to a picture of a city to reference the backgrounds of his work. Then it all made sense, as it were.

Exaaactly. Which is why I won't go near a comic with panels which have been traced from porno shots.

I just think it's a tad lame that he's in such an industry where much more talented artists have such trouble getting spotted.
I don't fancy getting a comic when I could just get a light box, and just go nuts and create my own copy in minutes.
Instead, give me Immonen, Romita.Jr or Cassaday any day of the week.

Difference between saying "so-and-so sucks at drawing" and "so-and-so can't draw" - which are usually the two things thrown at Mike Turner - and "I don't like so-and-so's art."

The latter? Perfectly valid.
The former and middle? Absolutely buhtarded.

Just taking a shot in the dark, but does anyone think she'll end up in Excalibur? I can't see Blink making her way onto any of the main X-titles since I'd imagine she would need to be playing a part in Messiah CompleX for that to happen. And with this supposed relaunch of Excalibur, and the fact that the Exiles are crossing over with them now, it makes sense. Has there been any news about who's supposed to be in Excalibur for the revamp? I haven't been keeping up.
