Comics Official S.W.O.R.D Discussion Thread

Yay, can't wait. This looks really good. Beast vs Gyrich and dirty sex talk should make this a fun read.

Sometimes, I wonder what planet the government in Marvel comes from.

They let aliens, half-aliens, gods run around freely, or be a crucial member of a department, yet for so many years, they can't stand mutants - those who have human parents on the same earth.

In all fairness, the only aliens I know of who live on Earth right now are Hepzibah, Hulkling, Jazinda, and Lockheed. Lockheed is working for SWORD, but few ever accepted him with open arms because he's a freaking dragon. Jazinda is in hiding because she's the only good Skrull left on Earth, she's a wanted felon among her people, and she has no choice but to lay low. I think Hulkling is keeping his alien heritage a secret from everyone but his fellow Young Avengers. Hepzibah has been living among mutants, so I imagine she gets treated the same as they do.

It's just weird to see the government welcome people such as Thor (who's not even from earth), or radiation-exposed-thus-mutated ones like the FF, and single out the mutants, who in theory, have to be more genetically close/natural to the humans than those listed above, after all, they were conceived and got their DNA directly from completely regular parents.

Just a random thought anyway.

Thor and his people come from an adjacent dimension that (to my knowledge) connects to Earth with a freaking rainbow, and the Fantastic Four are Earthlings in every sense of the word. You can make an argument for Thor, sure, but the Fantastic Four are natives to Earth.

I know the FF are earthlings, just that their powers can be considered even less naturally-required than mutants.

Yeah, but the natural part of mutants' powers is what scares people. People don't like the feeling that they're being replaced. Mutants present the idea that humanity is moving down on the food chain. Some believe mutants will use that to try to rule over humanity as humanity has ruled over animals. It freaks the hell out of religious fundamentalists.

The Fantastic Four are just four ordinary humans who had a nasty accident. Mutants feel like something else, but the Fan4 are just people who got something extra.

And there are only four of them.

Yeah, I got your point, in short, they all get an inferior complex around mutants, which they should totally go solve the issue with their shrinks.

The shrinks hate mutants, too.

On the plus side, at least the X-Men are finally seen as superheroes by the general public. They just had to move to the Left Coast, where people don't yell at you for walking down the street too slowly.

Thanks to the free spirit of California and Osborn.

Maybe that guy did one thing good, unwittingly, of course.

They didn't even need Osborn. San Francisco welcomed the X-Men as heroes the moment they stepped in the city. The city threw that huge party for them in Uncanny X-Men #500. They've been deputized by the SF police. Before Osborn and the Dark Imposters showed up in Utopia, the X-Men were already working side by side with the police to stop the riots. Scott, Emma, and Warren are on a first name basis with the mayor.

Yeah, I know that, just finished Secret Invasion: X-Men, but Osborn's DX is only, well, doing one more (not necessary, but still more) favor for their image, even if that's the opposite of his intention.

He really should just quit being a villain.

Norman Osborn should just quit being. Either lob some pumpkin bombs at Spider-Man, or crawl back in the ground and die again.

How is it going to work with Beast as part of X-Men and SWORD with Agent Brand? Will he be in both “Uncanny” and the SWORD title?

NICK LOWE: Someone sure took their curious pills this morning. Okay, for Beast you’re just going to have to wait and see how we handle his double-duty.
