Official Shang-Chi Casting Thread!!!

Regarding Shang Chi, he will likely appear in a Netflix series rather then being in a movie.

Regarding Fu Manchu, I don't think Marvel has the rights to that character anymore and frankly the character has always been a racial sterotype. I think the comics ret conned his dad to be Yellow Claw instead and Yellow Claw is one of the most offensive characters Marvel has created that managed to appear past the 1960s. I think Shang Chi's father will be hard to do in the 21st century.

Nope, they essentially kept Shang's father the same character but renamed him Zheng Zhu. That could still work.

Well you still have avoid the Yellow Peril aspects of a Fu Manchu type character, IMO. That might be tricky with Shang Chi's father.

I don't think so, if you write it as a classic father son relationship that's gone wrong it would be very easy to do.

The only thing that could be yellow peril is if the hero facing against him was white or if his old man talked in a cartoonish accent or had exaggerated features or dumb old jokes about penis size

Harry Shum Jr has the charisma to pull off Shang-Chi. Remember that Shang-Chi is a former spy, so the acting as well as the physicality should be there.

That would be wonderful. Harry is definitely charismatic and deserves a place in the marvel u. Might be cool to get a Chinese national though since Shang is too

After seeing black panther I'm even more keen on a Shang chi movie in phase 4 now!
