Smaug will be the money shot for this. Can't wait to see what they come up with.

Robert is 27 and he looks older than me, and i'm 27 as well. God bless my genes!

Btw Ponyboy, how many people on here have told you to "stay golden" so far? :oldrazz:

Ponyboy, if you're working on the film, how can you have time to be here? Or if you're at your office/work, how do you hide the Hype from fellow workers?

I can think of several actors i'd love for Smaug...Clancy Brown, Laurence Fishburne, Alan Rickman, Morgan Freeman.

I really wouldn't want Smaug to have an American accent.

I would quite like Jeremy Irons.

My Smaug dreamlist:

Bill Nighy
Gary Oldman
Ian McShane

I'm still kind of bummed Oldman's name hasn't been brought up, concerning The Hobbit. After LOTR I was hoping he would somehow snag a role when they eventually did TH, but it looks like it probably won't happen. :csad:

Oh well, this movie is going to be fantastic, anyway.

James Earl Jones.

We haven't seen him in a true epic in a minute. He would give Smaug that commanding presence that Jones can give.

I think he would play Smaug exactly the same as Darth Vader.

You mean Totally Awesome? Note the 'T' and the 'A' are capitalized for a reason.

I would rather have a Smaug that is based on Smaug, rather than a Smaug who is derivative of another movie baddie, most recently played by Hayden Christian.

I'm not on board with James Earl Jones.

It seems like too cliched of a choice - right up there with the suggestion of Sean Connery.

I'd like to see an actor that can capture the voice of Smaug, not a Darth Vader derivative.

Not if they augment it. I'm sure whatever actor they use they are going to add some sort of voice modifier adding a sense of grandeur and terrifying majesty to it.

Not that James Earl Jones needs it but Jackson focuses more on character than actor comfortability.

Mufasa and Darth Vader are still envisioned as completely different characters in my mind so lets give JEJ more credit than him just emulating Vader.

I'm sure Jackson can get a great vocal performance from him.

Even better, they could give the part to an actor who could perform it without the need for "augmentation" of any sort.

There are an awful lot of talented actors out there who would relish the opportunity.

I'd also rather have a non-American actor.

Like I said JEJ doesn't need augmentation but something I suspect they are going to use.

Smaug is a giant dragon in a cave I'm sure they'll be some alterations here and there.

Anyway I don't understand why JEJ isn't as good of a candidate than the others mentioned. Plus his experiences in purely vocal performances is incredibly rich making him a very qualified candidate if anything.

I'd also rather have a non-American actor.

Doesn't really matter honestly...
