i really think in the end, I don't MGM to go away.

So if Relativity got MGM, will MGM's name still be used?

Well there is no mention of that but yeah i guessing that MGM will keep it's name. Relativity will just focus on the productions of MGM.
Hell i think that the 500 million they'll invest in MGM will pretty much make itself back with Hobbit :oldrazz:
Considering that Hobbit is going to be a 3-d release , i can't see the movies making anything less 400 million domestic and 1 billion WW...each.

Absolutely ASTOUNDING!

So is this movie ever going to start? Ian said that they will star filming in July. Is this true?

Relativity won't be owning MGM, they'll just be a major production partner with MGM like Legendary Pictures or Village Roadshow is with Warner Bros.

This is good news, right? With Relativity providing $500 mil, MGM finally has the financing needed to get this project going?

That depends on whether or not MGM decides to accept the offer.

If the crisis with MGM is solved by then, maybe. As for right now, the movie won't get a greenlight while one of it's co-producers is going through a "to be or not to be" situation.

Time Warner is having discussions with MGM about raising its $1.5 billion offer, offering a 20+% minority stake to the creditors, or having a production/distribution deal.

I hope WB has a contingency plan for their Holiday slate. I am sure they have tons of properties they can dig off the shelf. Didn't Sam Raimi sign on for WoW? Maybe substitute that for their Holiday 2012 movie. LOTR can go to 2013-2014 should they eventually follow through with the acquisition. Just saying...

It looks like I am going to have to make this movie myself.

A beacon of light amongst the sea of ********:

TheOneRing.Net said:
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Peter Jackson, Executive Producer of the upcoming Hobbit films says of the films’ behind-the-scenes footage that “We’ve been filming DVD material for about a year. Guillermo has been doing location scouts and design work, with the DVD people following him around, so we’ve shot 20 or 30 hours of DVD material so far and we’re still a few months away from the first day of shooting.”

Asked about converting the LOTR films to 3D, he says, “You can do [2D to 3D] conversions well if you take time. If you do it quickly, fast and cheap, it’s not going to turn out well. If we were going to convert LOTR, I’d want to do it properly, which would be a very long, time-consuming, and expensive process.”

Lastly, his opinion on the not-so-positive fan reaction to the recently released Theatrical BluRay version seems to jibe with the majority of the fans. “I agree with the fans”, he says. “I was heavily involved in the DVD process when the films were being released through New Line, but now that Warner Brothers has taken control over the releasing of the films, they just tell me what they’re doing and don’t involve me in the process. [With New Line,] the one thing we never did with the fans was make them feel cheated. Back in the original release, we always put extra material in, extra documentaries — a lot of added value. I so totally understand why the fans would be upset; I don’t disagree with them.”

The bonus discs for TH better live up to the LoTR's. So WB better not **** it up.

Yeah that's gonna work. Films a bunch of scenes with back drops and extras with no actual movie to show for it. Should be a sure fire hit.

...It's bonus material for the Hobbit DVDs.

Which we won't probably get to see until 2015. Oh, **** that is a long ass wait.

Looking forward too those extra's. One thing i did like about the extra's on the EE ( specifically the ROTK one) is that they showed just what kindd of problems they had finishing the movie ( part of which was Peter Jackson's fault). Too often the extra's of movies these days are just "well the director is so great , i fell in love with the script " bla bla.
You get the same thing in the EE too but they also show just how difficult it was to finish everything in time.

I'd love to see how Hobbit was made with the reaction of everyone captured when they hear about all the problems at MGM.

Yeah, those extras showed that making those films weren't just a walk in the park. I mean damn, can you imagine for eight years going through everything? I can't list everything, but the people who have watched the extras would agree. I can't believe Jackson went and did King Kong right afterwards.

Take this as an official announcement that Hobbit has been pushed back one year.
