saw the highlights on SportsCenter.....GSP spent 5 rounds using Koscheks head for target practice

yeesh

To be fair, though, people usually say this about everyone any certain champion fights.

I don't see Koscheck out-wrestling GSP. Could Koscheck knock him out? Sure, I definitely think he could. But, then, that was Hardy's big chance, too. And Alves's.

I wouldn't be surprised to see GSP do to Koscheck tonight what he did to Fitch.

Yea but considering GSP is a very well rounded champion & arguably more of a grappler than striker now, it would take someone who has good grappling (particularly wrestling) & decent enough striking ability. I thought Kos could have troubled him more.

With Hardy & Alves you knew what was gonna happen, both are more dangerous strikers than they are fighting off their back, we knew GSP would put them both down & put a beatdown on them.

Fitch is probably the next best bet to get the title off him.. but in saying that he won't. He hasn't improved as much all round as he'd need to, to beat GSP since their last fight. Shields could possibly trouble him with his relentless takedown attempts but more than likely we'd just see what we saw tonight, GSP would batter him on the feet occassionally mixing it up with a takedown or two of his own.

Thaigo Alves looked in absolutely awesome shape & put on an awesome striking performance last night, absolutely leathal straights & sick leg kicks. Also showed some people like Fitch how to take someone down & actually cause some pain, was very busy in Howard's guard throwing elbows & hammerfists in his brief stint in that position.
I actually thought this was fight of the night to be honest.

GSP put a beatdown on Koscheck, Koscheck had nothing to threaten GSP last night. I actually can't see anyone keft at WW that will trouble GSP..

Good event.

I expected more grappling in GSP-Kos. Both guys kept it standing for the most part which was interesting. It shouldn't have been Fight of the Night though and the UFC is probably not going to do the 'fans vote for FOTN' promotion again.

as did I, but GSP seems to be at the point where he can work a fight that is out of his comfort zone and still win

GSP displayed a clinic last night of how the jab can slow down a looping power puncher.

Outside of the jab, GSP threw some great leg kicks, and superman punches.

We also saw the use of the Double jab, and range fighting.

All to often the jab is under appreciated by fans.

Last night was great. The only thing disappointing to me was Koscheck basically not doing anything but trying to land the same overhand right. I thought that he and his camp could have came up with a better gameplan than that. You know you're not going to land the same punch you've been telegraphing against someone as smart as GSP.

I guess the only thing left for GSP is Shields at 170 to beat Matt Hughes' streak. Unless another guy gets really hot like a Ellenberger or Condit in the next few months. It made sense for him to stay at 170 to break Matt Hughes' record, hence why I never really wanted him to move up. Now I would like to see him move up and go after some middleweights. Him and Anderson fighting would just be too awesome.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet, that's how WWI was started.

Ya know, I've been thinking...

Everyone wants to see GSP/Silva, and with every win the talk of it heats up. With GSP fighting Shields in Toronto and Anderson having to get past Vitor and maybe Okami, it would really be a huge set up for those two to fight at the end of the year in December.

Well a lot of people are saying that the fight should be held in Toronto, but I don't think that'd be right to give GSP such a decisive homefield advantage. Same thing with a card in Brazil. Anderson shouldn't get to have the whole crowd biased and cheering for him either.

That's where the neutral ground comes in...

Cowboy Stadium baby!:awesome:

I'd adopt and sell those children to go see that **** live. Dana's been wanting to get a fight in that stadium too, and that would be perfect since it's only a 30 minute drive for me.:woot:

too f'ng much.....that stadium is way tooo big for a UFC event....Dana White needs to get his lawyers out of their dungeon and get them to work getting the UFC back in New York so they can have a UFC event in the Garden

Well, Skydome (I refuse to call it by the official name) in Toronto is 50k for baseball, Wrestlemania had 60k+. Didn't they have a Pacquiao fight at Cowboys stadium?

There won't be an event in NY until 2012. They were close to solving the puzzle this year but **** happens.

Cowboy Stadium can fit 100,000, but they wouldn't set it up to hold that many. They'd just limit the capacity to around 35,000 to 45,000 or so like they did with the Pacquiao fights. There are enough people that would come to see that because GSP is about as popular as Pac-man(in North America) and Anderson has a big enough name to really garner interest.

Anyone remember PRIDE Shockwave 2002? 91,000 people filled the TNS for that one.

I think every PRIDE event was massive.

Yep. In Japan their stadiums were built for wrestling and MMA. I don't think any North American event is going to top that because combat sports don't sell gates that high. It's more of a pay per view model here.

The 91k live attendance is something that will probably stand for a long time. The National Stadium wasn't really used for MMA and isn't going to be used for MMA much. Saitama and Tokyo Dome are ~50k stadiums.

After WEC 53, I'm going to be doing a fight of the year thing in my column...I've narrowed it down to 10 fights. 3 for 3 different categories and 1 personal favourite.

What are your ten choices now? There has been some really good ones, and I think it just depends on what you prefer.

To me "Fighter of the Year" is easier because you just take whoever has the best wins at the elite levels while fight of the year is such a logjam of fights that would be deserving.

I think Cain Velasquez is Fighter of the Year IMO. Maybe Edgar.

I'll make one just for the hell of it.

1. Leonard Garcia vs Korean Zombie - WEC 48
2. Coty Wheeler vs Will Campuzano - WEC 46
3. Carlos Condit vs. Rory MacDonald - UFC 115
4. "KJ" Noons vs. Conor Heun - Strikeforce: Los Angeles
5. George Sotiropoulos vs. Kurt Pellegrino - UFC 116
6. Chris Leben vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama - UFC 116
7. Wanderlei Silva vs Michael Bisping - UFC 110
8. Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen - UFC 117: Silva vs. Sonnen
9. Clay Guida vs. Rafael dos Anjos - UFC 117: Silva vs. Sonnen
10. Matt Hamill UDs Keith Jardine - TUF 11 Finale
