Footage of Seagal training Machida

I've never understood why nobody ever goes for any kind of ankle lock when the guy is laying on his back with his feet up in the air...

Wow even Rampage was surprised at that but the judging gods smiled on Machida against Shogun the first time and now it comes back around.

I've been a Rampage fan for about 6 years now, but I can't say that he should have won that fight. Aggression is one thing, but you have to connect on something. At least Machida's kicks landed in the first. Oh well, looks like it'll be another instant rematch while waiting on the Shogun/Rashad fight in March.

And Phil Davis is the man!

3 rounders are too short.. Machida was in perfect position for ground and pound but go's for an arm bar ?????

And Phil Davis is the man!

His striking didn't look too hot, but the dude is great on the ground. Awesome takedowns, good control, good w/ subs. He just needs a little work on his standup and he'll be a force in the division.

If I take off my Rampage fan t-shirt & look at the fight, I thought it was extremely close. 3rd round was definatly Machida's, but the first 2 rounds were close.

[NORAMPAGEFANT-SHIRT]In the first Machida landed several leg kicks, however he also came off worse when they came together & took a few punches, he was then pushed up against the cage & took an equal number (if not more) of elbows/punches/knees to the leg/body. + Rampage looked the more aggressive throughout the first. It was close, but in my opinion, unless your scoring it from the 2 being in a standing position alone.. then it was Rampage's round.. barely.

Second round was more or less a similar story, Machida landed some kicks, Rampage only really landed as they came together, then in the clinch Rampage continued to throw punches to the body & knees to the leg throughout.. even when Machida had him pressed against the cage Rampage was the one still consistantly landing short punches to the body. + He got a takedown, + He again looked the more aggressive & willing fighter.

Third round was Machida's, he caught Rampage with a flurry & as Rampage was coming back with his own he gave up double underhooks & got tripped. Then Machida pretty much moved to the mount.. which he then gave up very, very cheaply. He might have been able to keep Rampage on his back the rest of the round & done consistant damage if not finished the fight had he not tried to go for the 2 submissions.. particularly the armbar from the mount.

I thought the fight was very close, I don't really see this as a controversal decision at all.. just a very close one. I think a rematch would be in order considering it was so close, but I don't think it needs to be an immediate rematch.. particularly from Machida's point of view. If a rematch goes ahead his last 4 fights will have been against only 2 people.[/NORAMPAGEFANT-SHIRT]

Now that that is out of the way:

Ed Soares muttered the words "That's ****ing ********" to Rampage as he walked over to shake Machida's hand, he should know all about ******** decisions what with the Machida/Shogun 1 fight.

Superb & rather shocking KO of Matt Hughes from BJ, I didn't see that one coming at all. It actually looked like Hughes was wobbled or at least felt the very first punch that BJ threw, his facial expressions looked like they dropped from confident to worried.

Phil Davis put on a good performance with a great submission win, he doesn't look comfortable on his feet.. at all, he'll need to work on that considering the strikers only get better the higher in the division he goes. However his takedowns & wrestling ability looks good, very powerful guy.

Falcao put on the best performance of the night for me (aside from the dog **** that was the last round), showed great grappling ability & his striking didn't look too shabby either. His first flurry of punches that sent Harris down was a superb explosion of speed & power. This guy could really me a force in the middleweight division.

Sotiropolous again put on an excellent performance, showed really great grappling yet again, he should be getting pumped into the mix with the big dogs of the division after his recent performances.

Overall I thought UFC123 was one of the best cards of the year, alot of entertaining fights.

if Machida really wanted to when he would have fought the first 2 rounds like he did the last one. congratz to Rampage even in a inactive fight, he still had full on aggression and was hungry for the win

Anyone want to step in GSP's office???

Machida-Rampage was close.

Griffin-Lentz was a robbery.

Also, Ed Soares should be banned from translating for fighters he manages.

Yeah I seen that, don't know how effective that will be during the fight though...

Akido is extremely effective, but it requires a partner to pretend they're being overpowered by you.

Damn, the BJ love brigade is out in full force now. Apparently Matt Hughes was a top welterweight that BJ destroyed last night. It was impressive, but Hughes hasn't been a top guy at 170 in about two years. Fitch is going to give a lot of these people another rude awakening, and then it's back to talking about how BJ is the best at 155 and how nobody can touch him there because Edgar was "running" in both of their fights. BJ fanboys have a serious selective memory.

Machida won that fight. *sigh

Nice victory for Penn, but in my eyes it means nothing. Not he's gonna fight Fitch, and we can all see how that's going to go.

All in all, nice event. J-Lau needs to work on his chardio, for sure.

hmm, well I thought Hughes was still top 10 (prior to last weekend). He dropped in a lot of peoples' minds because he wasn't really pursuing the title anymore and was mulling retirement.

I guarantee that if Hughes had beat BJ and Kos pulled off the upset against GSP, Hughes would have been arguing for a title shot.

Fitch really gets shafted because of his relationship with Dana and the fact that people see him as 'boring.' He's given fights where if he loses, he falls way down the ladder, but if he wins it doesn't do anything for him IE: Ellenberger/Penn, Saunders, Thiago, Gono, Sanchez, etc. He needed 8 wins to get his 1st title shot so I guess he needs 2 more if he beats Penn.

I say if Fitch beats Penn, he'll be given a title shot. If Penn beats Fitch, he'll be given a title shot, especially if he finishes him.

Fitch would probably be given a title shot if he beats Penn in decent enough fashion. Penn is a really big name, so beating him would give Fitch more credit with casual fans that only know him from that serious beat down that GSP gave him. Fitch should have gotten another title shot a few fights ago, but his style puts off fans in addition to his most relevant fight being a one sided ass whuppin. Beating Penn gets him closer, but he still could get shafted again if fans are disappointed in how it goes down. That's why I wish that they had him fight Shields. That fight would not only be awesome, but no matter what happens you get a "boring" guy a title shot he deserves while knocking another "boring" guy down the ladder.

If BJ pulls off the upset against Fitch he'll get a shot...if Kos beats GSP. As far as I'm concerned, the only way BJ is getting a title shot at 170 is if GSP loses, gets hit by a bus, or if he gives Dana a year's supply of big booty Brazilian strippers to justify getting another ridiculous shot.

I can see Dana saying Fitch/Penn is for #1 contender status.

Anyone know if Jake Shields is already getting the winner of GSP/Kos?

I think Fitch took himself out of the title picture. At the post fight press conference when he fought Alves Fitch dodged questions and didn’t say he wouldn’t fight Koscheck. Dana said listen to what he isn’t saying. Dana said he is not saying he no he won’t fight Koscheck. Dana thought he would take a title fight against Koscheck.

Since then Fitch has gone back to his stance he won’t fight Koscheck. Well that means he isn’t committed to taking that title shot then. So while I feel bad for Fitch that he isn’t getting the title shot he was promised I can’t blame Dana for taking it away at this point in time because Fitch himself won’t commit to taking the title shot against whoever wins. Even if it is Koscheck that wins.

Giving the shot to Shields allows them to start promoting and hyping that match-up leading up to and during the GSP/Koscheck fight. With Fitch they would be letting Fitch dictate to them what happens. They would have to wait to see who won to find out if Fitch would be willing to take the fight. That isn’t how the UFC is going to do business and I don’t blame them.

Yeah, fighters that won't fight certain fighters either need to change organizations or weight classes. I'm tired of hearing that they will not fight certain people. It disrupts everything in the weight class and its just nonsense. Fitch and Kos are two of the best in the WW class. Rashad and Jones are two of the best in the LHW class. And they will never fight each other. Some ol' bull.

And it'll smear their legacies, in my opinion. They'll never be able to say that they were the best, because they didn't fight everyone they could have fought, to say that they were the best.

Joe Lauzon and Dan Lauzon said they would fight each other. And they are brothers.

Xtreme Couture fight each other all the time. Dunham/Tyson, Amir/Hendricks.
