What's with all the Shadowcat hate?

OK, so the idea of Ultimate Dark Beast totally set me a-twitter. They could do some really cool things in that vein if they pulled it off right...

Even more importantly, I do love me some bad-good guys and good-bad guys. And bloodthirsty lunatics are my bread and butter.

As for the Shadowcat hate, I think some of that stems from readers of the 616. I adore Shadowcat in most incarnations, but Ultimate Kitty is often a bit of a twit. She did so much growing up over the years in the other books, it just seems almost painful to see her back as a sometimes spoiled, usually whiny little brat. Maybe my view of her is skewed because I think the Astonishing books treat her as a much stronger character even when she's showing emotional weakness. Like Ultimate Bobby, Ultimate Kitty can be fun, but she can also be irritatingly immature. All that said, I still really like both of these characters, but I can see why some people might not.

Even more importantly for non-616'ers, I think people just don't like the Valley-girl type. Not to mention the fact that almost everyone who is not 16 has an inherent hatred for 16-year-olds.

What's up with Shadowcat? Is it me or did her wanting to quit the team just come out of nowhere?

I'm sure (or, I really hope) that they'll explain it a little better in coming issues...after all, the whole crazy-Kurt thing was hinted at briefly and with little explanation before the weirdness went down.

I actually kinda hope that they use Kitty's newfound reticence and Kurt's...issues to bring them closer together. Not, like, together together, but they've had such a nice rapport in other series and I think it would blend well in this one. Besides, Kurt really needs a friend. t:

Personally I don't like where this series is going so far. They bring Cable in from the future and make hints like he is genetically another version of Wolverine??? What's up with that?

I really hope they do something cool with Cable, 'cause he could be a really good character to get involved in the series.

But the whole connection to Wolvie thing? Yeah, I could probably do without that unless they handle it in a clever way. Is anybody else getting kind of tired of every other person who shows up turning out to be his wife/son/brother/clone/long-lost gerbil/second cousin twice removed who was abducted by aliensBUTHEJUSTCAN'TREMEMBERWHYGODWHY (dun dun DUN)? And then the writers act like it's always a big shock when it hasn't been surprising since (oh, I dunno) the third or fourth time they did it... If I hear anyone else say that they "know more about him than he does..."

Oh, the melodrama.

Nice cover, now I think maybe Prof X does actually die then.
So also reading that it metions Shadow King, so what if it makes it look as if X dies when he doest he is captured by Shadow?
So also I think Kitty might leave for a while as well.

no prob I hat to say it but that cover all but confirms that Cyke's head is on the choping block. Also im looking forward to seeing some of the interier art for that iss, hopfully the art will be a hell of alot better then Oliver's art.

Ummm.. Probably not. I hate saying it, but it really seems like cyclops is going. Some have said they don't want to make it into 616, which might mean that instead of jean dying all the time they'll kill cyclops off. In my opinion, it sucks, and it goes against the supposed marvel statement that "we won't make the comics reflect x3"... SO yeah, I'm a bit down about all of that.

I don't see it as a set thing that Cyke is dying... so what if Jean is on the cover crying? Covers can be fakeouts.

And I'm not saying this as an embittered Cyke fan. But like it's happened as recently as the Phoenix? arc . The first issue's cover had Scott and Logan posing all possessively over Jean... and nothing in the issue or even the arc addressed anything of the sort. And yeah, it's something that happened before, but still. It didn't advertise anything within the pages.

yeah and the cover of rogue and kitty together when they have been at each others throats.They don't really like each other. that one made me giggle

If Cyclops is the one to go, I am officially going to have to cease reading for a while. This Cyclops is how the movie one should be, and to take out such a powerful and integral character wouldn't be kosher.

I agree, I just hope they don't, if they do I will be so annoyed and not sure if i will carry on reading it .

maye they mean to stir all this fan rage - exploiting the anger from X3. i think its more feesable that it prof X who gives himself up to get jean back and she feels its her fault.

I would like some help from my fellow Ultimate X-readers! I have read all of Millar's run, and all of Bendis' run...that takes us from Vol 1 TPB to Vol 8 TPB "New Mutants". I've skimmed much of BKV's run, and I haven't really been 'into' any of it, especially 9-12. Was 13 any good? Anyways, my main question is, if I've liked the first part of Ultimate X-Men, would I be okay in digging back into the Ultimate universe with Robert Kirkman's first volume...number 14? How have the Phoenix and Magician storylines been? Thanks for the input!

I think that after the Crapble arc I might drop UXM....Between this and Godwar and whatever the hell Bendis is doing in Spiderman I might drop Ultimate alltogether.

I am a little disappointed with Cable to be honest. Its still to early to make any final judgments, but still. I didn't like how he was portrayed as kind of a weak old man who relied on gadgets. He's supposed to be a hard ace.

how is he a "weak" old man? he used his brain as well as his brawn to take down the x-men. wolverine without a healing factor is someone who can get hurt and needs way more time to recooperate. he's a matured logical person. i think its an interesting twist. we just have to understand that its not the regular marvel universe. everything won't be the same.
