Invincible is pretty good too.

1. He destroyed a significant part of Wolverine/Sabretooth history by establishing Creed as Logan's son. Wolverine's arch enemy is his son? Thats silly...

He created the history... Creed has always been Logan's son in the Ultimate Universe, we're just now finding out. What history was destroyed? You do realize this isn't 616.

2. He destroyed Cable's character. Theres no way this character can be anything but a dead ender now. No, theres no future for Cable in Ultimate Marvel.

Correction: There's no future for Cable in the PRESENT. And I'm thankful for it. No one's future should be in the present.

3. His Ultimate Phoenix story is cheese extreme. The Phoenix was a cosmic entity that was locked up in a cage created by aliens and the cage eventually developed into planet Earth? Thats just garbage.

Cheese? Like corny? Been there done that? Hardly. I don't like it either, and I find it very un-ultimate, but I wouldn't call it cheesy any sooner than I'd call it Hutt-like.

4. His dialogue and character development for the characters is blatently contrived. Its obvious hes trying way too hard to make them interesting. The discussions about the play Storm is writing and Charles revealing to Scott that hes in love with Jean are good examples of Kirkman shooting blanks.

Ouch. Ouch. I want to agree, but I'm in too much vicarious pain.

5. The Magician arc. Nuff' said..

It hurts...

I look forward to the time when someone gets on this book who knows how to write ULTIMATE X-Men.

^ Magician was crap :(

Ok guys this is why I like UXM....

Yes this isnt the 616 universe so anything can happen and thats how it should be. I think the book started with this phiolsohy strongly but somewhere along the lines lost it,and it just became to similer to the 616. I like that Kirkman is bringing that feeling back with things like Wolvie/Sabertooth (which we still don't know if its true or not so lets not rush to that conclusion yet) and other "shock" twists.

When Millar left the title I was a bit worried that they would all of a sudden make Colosus straight (even though his sexuality was just hinted at at that time) after all,Marvel has done it twice before.
No other writer has given it as much chance to be explored as Kirkman has. Yeah I think Vaughn had him and Northstar go to the dance but it's one thing to just have someone mention it in passing when it was a good chance to delve into ultimate colosus' character.
The angle Kirkman has with Kurt/Peter is one of the most interesting the title has going for it. Because of a personal experiance, I can honestly say, friends don't always come back as fast as one poster put it earlier. When friends feel betrayed they do not rush back to make up.

Kurt in genral is also a nice touch. The idea that he may not be all there because of weapon X is another interesting plot point as it is more realistic than "ok i was tortured to no end but now that I'm free I'm fine without any pshycological damage."

Yes the love for Jean angle is nothing new and it was inevitable to happen here as well. Lets hope it goes somewhere interseting.

I like the conections to the Phoenix to what Millar built. It's just a different take on the way we have seen it done before, which remember, different in UXM is a good thing other wise it's just 616 x-men. As far as the cool looking goblins...anyone else see the Goblin queen in the x-mens future?

The biggest reason that I enjoy Kirkmans run is a simple one. It reads like an old style comic book.He has long lasting plot points and sub plots and when reading this it dosent feel like your just reading a broken up TPB as it did with Bendis and Vaugn.
Thats something I feel is missing from alot of ongoing titles nowadays..

1. I agree about Kurt. That's about the only character that I've enjoyed under Kirkman. Yeah, he's being a *****e towards Petey but it's interesting nonetheless.

2. I disagree about Charles and Jean's love angle being inevitable. You yourself said that anything could/should happen in the Ultimate Universe and it shouldn't be bound to any 616 continuity. I don't think there's any need for this sub-plot when this Cable fiasco is goin on and it's just not interesting.

I have a voucher to get Ultimate X-Men TPB`s.Should i?Is it worth it?Is the Ultimate X-Men still good reading? What about recent stories?
The best TPBs are 1, 3, and 6. Millar wrote great stories that established the series with its own style, and Adam Kubert's art was fantastic.

Correct. It's not known whether or not there's any truth behind Sabretooth's claim that he's Wolverine's son. It could just be him trying to mess with Wolvie's head, it could be his own memories really warped and messed up, or whatever. If it's true, it could be done well. If it's not true, just as well.

There's a problem behind it not being true, however. How many issues prior was it stated? Several. Quite a few. As of the end of the Cable arc, that'll be four issues, another... what, four for the Magician arc? And I think it was in 2/3 of Date Night, so another two issues there. Were there more in the middle? I stopped collecting UXM during the end of Date Night and Magician and whatever the heck else was going in on there. Some Phoenix issues, too, so let's go with ten issues to be safe.

You're more or less right. In some cases, there just isn't this kind of detail (which it is, a detail). In some titles, it is, literally, Arc 1, Arc 2, Arc 3, Arc 4, wash, rinse, repeat. So while it's nice to see this detail being done, it could be done better. Even if he jumped on the Wolverine-Sabretooth issue the next issue after Cable ends, it's ten issues, as I said above, after the initial mention. And there's been no recurrance of that plot point anywhere in those issues. This isn't handling the "long lasting plot points and sub plots" in a responsible or intelligent manner, plainly put. This is more akin to a baby deciding he wants to splash red paint on the wall, then blue paint, then green, then brown, then black, and then decides to switch back to red because it looks pretty.

And yes, this is ULTIMATE X-Men. The entire premise was to update it to a more modern age and to cut away the continuity of the past forty years, to allow new readers to access the title easier. Yes, as Millar showed us with the initial issues, ANYTHING can happen. Vaughan continued with this thread. I dunno about who was in the middle between them, but I think Bendis was (Blockbuster, right?), so I don't much care.
But just because ANYTHING can happen doesn't mean anything SHOULD happen.

Oh, and I remember taking a flip through the hardcover of Marvel Zombies, since everyone seemed to like it. It was cool, and it was written by Kirkman. Of course, I read it after he'd started his UXM run - so, like Spoons is confused about Ant-Man (which I'm not reading), I was confused how he cranked out Marvel Zombies and screws UXM so badly. And then I read his introduction, where he explicitly states that when he sat down to write MZ, he set out to do the most outlandish, most weird, most whatever things.
Hmmm.... Methinks I see a connection between the method used for MZ and the end product we're seeing of UXM.

I dont beleive the crap about Sabretooth. I sure as hell hope its not true

Damn, Kirkman did MZ as well? That was awesome. He must be trying to screw UXM up on purpose :o

I actually like the revelation of Sabretooth being Wolverine's son. I hope it does turn out to be true, and I recall Cable mentioning something about it to Wolverine as well. I think it adds another dimension to the characters and their relationship and also explains how similar Sabretooth's powers are to Wolverines.

actually as I remember it, Sabes was just taunting Wolverine to get close enough to get a good skin sample for the "good doctor" back at the lab.
I'm thjinking more along the lines of Cable being genetically linked to Wolverine. Somehow they used Wolverine's dna and added it to the "melting pot" of Cable's gene pool.
He mentioned it during their fight seen, and then all Wolverine could "smell" was himself after Cable left the scene.

Guess we'll all just have to wait and see. Personally I can't stand the idea of Wolverine & Sabes being "kin" in any way shape or form.

any chance Cable is connected to Longshot? I thought so at first but then he popped out the claws and that squashed my theory

Which brings up an old question I always had: How come all those 90s blonde heroes had that glowing star eye? Cable and X-Man and Longshot... was there any connection with that at all?

Cable isnt a blonde. He had white hair and before it lost its color, it was brown. There's obviously a connection with X-men bc he was created as an alternate reality version of Cable and was also a brunette. Longshot was an 80s hero. He was written out by the time the 90s rolled up

IDA. I hate Kurt and whats been written under Kirkman. I was hoping he'd be killed off

Dude... just say "I don't know why, GL1." That's fine. :word:

There was no need for him to answer thus, because your question is not applicable, as your information fueling the question is false.

Cable's glowing eye comes from his powers. The eye that glows (most of the time, since some pencilers get it wrong and glow the other eye) isn't real. It's a cybernetic replacement, as that eye got eaten by his Techno-Organic Virus. X-Man is the same, since all X-Man is is the Age of Apocalypse counterpart of Cable, but younger. Cable has white hair, like Havok said, before which it was brown, like X-Man's was.
Longshot's the same, I assume. His eye/s glow when he's making active use of his powers. Longshot has blonde.
Well, getting hair color right one out of three tries isn't that bad, is it?

we have already had too many deaths- i hope nightcrawler can get through it. Remember he's just a kid in ultimate. One of my favourite lines of ultimate was when the guard in weapon x said that she (rogue) sang him to sleep.:csad:

UXM sure is sitting on a bunch of interesting potential stories: Possibly Apoc, the return of Juggs and Gambit, the whereabouts of Magneto and Longshot, the Brotherhood's activities, etc.

let's just hope those stories stay in limbo so Kirkman doesnt get a chance to f-ck em up

There is no need to do anything. You don't need to reply at all, nor do you need to visit the Hype ever again. The question can be rephrased: "Why does Longshot's eye glow like Cable and X-Man's?"

See? Still applicable, even when accompanied by false information. "Need." Ha.
