Animation Official Wolverine And The X-men, "Hindsight 1-3" Discussion Thread

I can't find the second one. Could some kind soul PM me the link? Thanks.

ok ive seen ep.1 in english and to me PERSONALLY it was an ok ep but ive also seen eps 1-12 in spanish and let me tell you they have been awesome, but tha thing that is killin my heart is wat if tha show doesnt do good here in tha US and there isnt another season i would really die LOL,but seriously hopefully they either get tha network changed to WB or Cartoon network(which i hughly doubt) or ppl get satilite.Ut evyone is gonna have to have satilite by febuary 2009 anyway SO.....tha show mite jus get those numbers it needs cuz this show is to damn good to go down tha drain.now ive been comparing tha show to tha likes of tha old series and YES even jsutice league lol and its getting there BUT to me it has tha potential to surpass those limits and bars that shows like batman tas, superman tas, xmen tas,and spiderman tas.NOW dont get me wrong x-men evo was good but this show has already blown that away all i know is that i cant wait for january.

u knw in every x-men incarnation Toad gets dumber...what the heck!?!? This guy has mad fighting skills and yet he's reduce to a joke, like he's just their for comedy relief, which really doesn't work at times...but other than good epi. its funny how the cartoon did a better job showin the Worthingtons relationship than X3 did...Kitty was less annoying than prt. 1...poor Colossus he always manages 2 get shaft...

Episode 2 in english is up on youtube. Great episode. I want to see episode 3 in english though. :)

Episode 2 *English* is also up on the torrent sites. Just run a search and look for the 2nd episode available.

To be fair, the X-Men have disbanded a few times, although as you said, it's rarely been shown in the cartoons.

Right, as I said, the comics often had them disband, but we haven't really gotten that as part of the status quo for an animated series.

I understand that Wolverine leading the team is more a matter of obligation due to popularity, but they didn't have to overplay their hand and virtually make him "Grandpa X-Man" before Xavier blew up. Again, take the entire episode as a whole, and it seemed out of character that he was leaving at all. Like, "oh, it's Logan, so that's his schtick."

To be fair, Logan always been kind of the loner and the guy most likely to go off and do his own thing, but yeah they really have made him more, as you said, the cranky "grandpa" of the series.

As I mentioned in some past discussions, Wolverine and Cyclops appear to be swapping roles here, at least from promotional material. While Wolverine has been able to be okay written a variety of ways, Scott as a brooding emo loner is a bit out of type for him. It'll either sink or swim. But I still am interested.

Episode 2 sort of addresses this
in that Logan says that he's really not cut out to be a leader and that no one would follow him if he's in charge, and that Cyclops is being emo because he can't get over the loss of Jean, which is pretty much how he was after The Dark Phoenix saga.
But yeah, in some ways the sereis is taking cues from the films, which did the same thing with regards to Logan and Scott, especially with The Last Stand.

Caught the second episode on the net, and I found it to be okay. (Some spoilers follow)

It's really more evident in this episode that the cartoon is taking cues from the films, especially X-3, and yet unlike that film, it doesn't come off nearly as forced. For instance, we have the dichotomy between Warren and his father, who supports mutant registration and Senator Kelly's anti-mutant crusade, and are given a rationale as to why Warren can't publicly associate himself with the X-Men--if he does, then his trust fund is gone which prevents him from helping other mutants. So the idea of him being the secret financial backer behind the X-Men is a good role for him.

I also like the idea of Rogue being part of the Brotherhood, although her reasons for joining are a bit of a mixed bag. If you thought last episode made it appear that Rogue had unrequited romantic feelings for Wolverine, then this episode all but makes her appear to be some scorned lover or "jilted girlfriend" in that she felt "abandoned" by Logan, hence the reason why she joins the Brotherhood and sets the X-Men up. Her personality is far closer to that of the X-Men films than it is the comics, although, given Rogues powers, it would make sense that she would have feelings of isolation and lonliness. I just find it weird that the show is making her a quasi-villian because Logan didn't feel the same way romantically about her as she did him.

And speaking of the Brotherhood, if we didn't know their association with Magneto with regards to Quicksilver, we would think these guys are just a bunch of two-bit punks, who if they didn't have their mutant powers would be tantamount to a low level street gang. Granted, in regards to mutants being a metaphor for being persecuted minorities, the gang analogy with regards to the Brotherhood provides an good comparison in that they are united as a kind of "family" and Domino makes for an interesting leader for the group. But considering that they've got guys like Blob, Avalanche, and Quicksilver on the team, you'd think these guys be doing much more than just committing robberies, trespassing, and property distruction. Also, I'd imagine that Magneto would be very disapointed in Quicksilver for using his "superior" gifts to be a common criminal, especially being that he's the son of the leader of Genosha and of one of the "great" mutants.

As for Logan and the appearance of Cyclops after Xavier and Jean's "disappearance" they pretty much are taking the cues from the films and reversing their roles. Although, to be fair, Logan does express doubts about being a leader, as he believes, as Rogue told him, no one would follow him if he was in charge, which is sort of in keeping with his attitude in the comics. And Cyclops is being a emo due to the fact that Jean is gone, just like what happened after she died in the comics after the Dark Phoenix Saga. Still, it's going to be odd for him being subordinate to Wolverine if he comes back to the team.

All in all, this show has some promise, good approaches for the X-Men, and decent animation, although it does need a little work to better develop some of those concepts in my opinion.

What you brought up about that Magneto should be disapointed at his son for what he's using his gifts for, I think this might actually happen in the show. Because in the later episodes Scarlet Witch and the other mutants are in Genosha (no surprise, it was in the trailers) while Quicksilver and the brotherhood arent in Genosha. So I think maybe Quiicksilver did something in Genosha to make Mags banish him or something. Because its strange that they havent brought up the connection between Quicksilver and Mags.

On a random note: is it just me or does Quicksilver look really old.

I think that Magneto has a hidden agenda in the story. I think that he pulls the strings with the Brotherhood. Maybe they are unofficially working for him. In the end I think they will all end up on Genosha, X-Men and the Brotherhood, defending it from the Sentinels.

Ok guyz tha whole nicktoonz thing wasnt quite a bad idea becuz evryone in tha US will have to have satelite by febuary 2009, so wen tha show airs in january it will have sum decent numbers considering tha whole HD tv Satelite thing in 2009,so i highly doubt they will end tha show at this so i wouldnt worry much about there not being a 2nd season. JUS THOUGHT ID REMIND YA

I could be wrong, but I think that Domino MIGHT be Mystique in disguise.

No we don't. Besides people would still have to order a package that came with Nicktoons.

Hey that would be cool. Somehow she doesn't belong with the group, maybe I'm wrong. If it's not Mystique I would like her to join Sinister and Marauders, she somehow fits more with them.

Where did you get that crazy idea. :p lol. It wouldnt make sense. Mystique shows up in another episode and Domino displayed her luck powers in episode 2 with the pool thing.

i know that, BUT if u want tv u will have to switch its manditory for febuary of 2009 check tha charter AND direct tv sites they will tell u and tha commercials r already on tv AND nicktoonz come with tha basic package cuz i have it and YES if u dont switch ur cable boxes wont get a signal becuz of tha satelite change across america

episode 2
- better than episode one
- good rogue characterisation although I hope she doesn't stay with the brotherhood for long.
- strong movie influences coming through with the Drake family
- Acknowledgment that wolverine isn't leader material
- I hate kitty more than ever. She's been cocky and whiny so far
- I liked cyclops appearance but he has to pull himself together and prove why he's leader. Show why he shouldn't be outshone my Wolverine

You said you like bold ideas in your own words. So I mean, you pretty much admit that this is on here. Putting this series on a higher level than the LG DVD's.

Oh, definitely. I said in my review that the pilot episode alone was better than a few of the LG DVD's (INVINCIBLE IRON MAN and NEXT AVENGERS, easily).

I hopefully will be able to watch the second episode tonight. I'm busy until late.

Watched the second episode a few hours ago. Good stuff.

It's just a theory. Nothing more, nothing less. And yes I know that Mystique appears in a later episode. However, that still does'nt mean she is not posing as Domino.

Another theory about Domino is that she could be PRETENDING to be a member of the Brotherhood in order to take them down from the inside.

I know they're theories but they're still out of the blue. In this continuity Domino is a part of the Brotherhood. Its like saying, I think Beast is a traitor in the X-men. Its just a random idea. Theres nothing that has hinted at her being Mystique or that shes going to betray them.

In the comics, Domino is NOT a bad guy. So unless there is a shortage of evil female mutants (which there isn't), then I highly doubt that she is 100% evil in this series. I think there is more to her being in the BOEM then meets the eye.

Blade X, that isnt a good point becauseyou said it yourself: "in the comics". This is a different continuity, and that there's plenty of characters to choose from, hasnt stopped other continuities from changing things.

And Domino seems to genuinely believe in what the brotherhood is doing so it would be completely out of left field if that happened and would be a bad twist.
