Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

Is this book doomed for cancellation yet?
sure is. I doubt it will last more than a year. The first issue debuted at #54 on the monthly chart and thats downright awful. Usually #1s debut much higher than that. Cracking the top 30 would have been much better for it. For comparison, another recent debut was New Mutants at #20. Considering Forever is biweekly, I think it will be harder for people to keep up with. First issues tend to be the highest for new series and sales gradually go down until they level off somewhere. Forever #1 didnt set a high enough bar and I think that #54 spot is as good as its going to get

ok lets put that #54 in perspective....
Punisher was at 59
Xfactor was at 69
Nova was at 75
Hercules is at 77
Guardians of the Galaxy is at 82
Uncanny Xmen first class was at 157

now above XMF
Thunderbolts at 51
Avengers Initiative at 48

Now are any of the books I mentioned on the verge of being cancelled????

like I said #1s tend to be the highest for new series. Its expected to drop from that 54 slot. How far remains to be seen. No one said its on the verge of being cancelled. The thing just came out last month! I will be surprised though if it lasts more than a year

I'll be surprised if it makes it through the year. It's serving no purpose other than to keep Claremont hired clear past his prime which was long ago. I'm surprised there is actually anybody invested in anything written by him with his track record of late.

Too be honest I very much enjoy the hell out of Forever. I enjoy it more than any of the 616 X titles.

Eh, then my friend I worry for you, because Claremont just simply has lost his talent in his old age.

i like where the book is headed. Nothing in the 616 books interests me. Scott and Emma make n sense what so ever but marvel pushes them as the Mutant Bradjelina. The idea that Scott would form a kill team is also crazy.

Ah, you are Scott/Jean fan. That explains it all. :o

to be honest I am an X-men fan. I dont have a favorite or favorites.....and in all actuality I dont think Jean would have accepted Scott's proposal at all. This is a man who left her visual twin with a baby...why would she trust him.

The way Scott and Emma are written sometimes, I can accept them being together. However, I have to ignore the fact that I could never see Scott beginning a relationship with Emma in the first place.

"Woe is me! My wife is turning back into the Phoenix, and I feel myself unable to connect with her! If only she hadn't turned into the Dark Phoenix that one time, and made me fear her Phoenix persona! Oh well. Maybe I'll start sleeping with the woman who turned Jean into the Dark Phoenix the first time, because I'm surely not bitter at Emma at all."

Exactly. Im not saying Scott can only date Jean but out of everyone in the Marvel U i have a hard time believeing it would be Emma...or that you know your wife has a habit of dying and coming back to life why would you start something with someone else

well she didnt accept his proposal and thoughts of Maddie and Scott's history with her are what kept her from doing so. It took months until she was able to make sense of everything and thoroughly think about it that she proposed to him and agreed to marry him on her terms when she was ready to do so

I hated that Scott had it written on Jean's tombstone "She Will Rise Again". If thats the case Scott, why jump into something with someone SO fast? He literally was making out with Emma and moved on soon after Jean was buried right at her gravesite. That was in incredibly bad taste and was pretty tacky of both of them

The only time I dare so, sort of liked Emma and Scott was during the Divided We Stand arc in UXM just before the move to SF. I actually didnt mind them there and saw a fun side thats rarely portrayed with them as they always seem so serious or about business. I still hate them as a couple though and dont think they are well suited for each other at all

Uh, did you forget Jean is the reason why he jumped onto Emma so fast? Hell he was already clearly taken to her seduction and Jean figured if I'm dead why not pass him on to the little heifer.

Jean's the one responsible for Emma/Scott. That little mental push.

Jean is not responsible for them. She wanted him to live his life, not turn away from his drive as an X-men, shut down the school, be all depressed and waste away. She saw what that did for the future. Scott could have picked himself up, reopened the school, continued to be leader of the X-men, stuck around as a mentor and let helped the other X-men continue on, etc... He did NOT have to move on with Emma and stick his tongue down her throat at Jean's gravesite. Scott made his own decision and his own choices. Where and when did running the school and leading the X-men become a packaged deal with sleeping with Emma? I dont think thats quite what Jean had in mind. It really doesnt say much for Scott and Emma when supporters of them claim that the only reason they are together bc Jean pushed him into it

Inevitably. It just doesn't have the charm of X-Factor or X-Force. It has no umph. :(

Agreed. :(

That is your opinion.
He's not the only one who thinks that way......

I wasn't aware X-Force had charm or that one could even add charm to a book about killing and death.

Scott and Emma were clearly attracted to each other before Jean's mental nudge; that was just the impetus that caused the relationship to develop.

Exactly.

I've always thought and will continue to think that Jean and Scott are just too similar in terms of beliefs, personality, and ideas for them to be the perfect couple that they were represented as being.

They'd of been bickering and cheating on one another long before Emma came along. People who are too similar to one another just don't work happily ever after.

There is no charm. X-Force is a lot of fluff and violence, with the characters shoehorned into whatever archetype KY need without any regard for their prior characterization., but people read it anyway because it has more wall-to-wall action than any other X-Men comic.

and there are people who love the book...its called opinions

It's all in the blood splatter, Bill. :p All in the blood splatter.
