Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

I dont know about that. GeNext is actually pretty good, almost refreshing.
I have nothing but respect for Claremont. Yeah, New Exiles wasnt great but he has done alot of things better than most writers over at Marvel.
X-men Forever looks good and a hell of lot more less convoluted than what's going on in Uncanny and Astonishing.
GeNext was not an ongoing. I wasnt talking about any minis

I personally thought X-treme was pretty good
The first half was alright but that was mostly due to Larocca's gorgoeus art. I didnt feel the series was the same once he left and going back to it, the storytelling really wasnt all that interesting. It was damn good to look at though

I didnt have an issue with anything he wrote. I didnt like GLMK 2 but it was something he was forced to write since X2 had come out and when read with GLMK took away alot of my issues.
I am excited about this series because it wipes away alot of the stupid BS thats happening in the books now. Xavier isnt an evil d!ck. Scott didnt make out with Emma on Jean Grey's grave, there is no other Summers brother, Kitty is still alive, Beast looks like Beast, Nightcrawler isnt the son of a demon mutant, Wolverine's claws arent bone, Storm isnt married to Black Panther...ect ect ect

Amen.

:) :D:D:grin:

So im over at Comixfan reading some of Mr Claremont's posts about the new series and there were a few highlights.
1)The X-men forever take place in the 161 unverse, mainstream Marvel is 616.
2)Since he insists there is only one Rachel in the multiverse he cant use here since she is currently in Shiar space in the 616 universe.
3)XMF 1-5 will be pencilled by Grummett, 6 and 10 will be by Paul Smith and 7-9 by Steve Scott, Tom's 2nd arc begins with issue 11
4)Issues 11-15 will be single issue character building relating to the mansion and characters returning such as Colossus and Psylocke
5)7-9 involves the Trask family and the revealled fact they have been building robots longer than anyone knows...there is footage from WW2 revealed

I still call bull on #2 on that list. We've seen alternate Rachels before.

and he's chosen to ignore that. According to his continuity there is only 1 Rachel. He doesnt consider anything that any other wrote as fact and insists that they were just red headed daughters of alternate Scott and Jeans who happened to also name that child Rachel

he created the character and I think its pretty awesome that while he wants to write the character(i'd kill for some Jean and Rachel scenes) he is sticking to his rules

things im looking forward to
1)no third summers brother
2)link between longshot and gambit finally revealed
3)no emma
4)logan and victor's true relationship

qft

thats a really lame excuse. it doesnt really make any sense. if you go by that rule, then most if not all characters are simply the "children of their parents with the same colored hair but not exactly the same person." that's the whole point of having alternate realitys, no?

and what about Claremont's TERRIBLE idea of making Gambit the son of Namor or some nonesense in Exiles? IF YOU ARE BORN FROM TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE THEN YOU ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON. its impossible to call him Remy. even if that's his name, it is not the same character.

I LOVE THIS IDEA.
The idea that he left after three issues in the 90s, so lets see what would have happened to the X-Men if he didn't leave.
And since this isn't in continuity then he can get away with it and doesn't have to follow what came after he left, like revealing character's relationships. I just hope he actually isn't influenced by what came after, either by using it or going the opposite direction just to be different.
I read what he had originally intended with Sabertooth and Wolverine, so I can't wait to read that.

Plus its bringing back old school superhero stuff, like costumes from the 90s.

The Marvel writers have done this kinda thing in nearly every alt-verse story though. Some character will have a completely different background, but still be who they are in 616.

Not saying the idea's not terrible, though. I despise it.

That's stupid. Hyperstorm's mother has literally the exact same life story as the Rachel Summers we all know and love, except she stayed in the future.

Claremont himself wrote an alternate Rachel in X-Men: The End.

the end is supposed to be 616
I dont see whats so wrong with this. It's his universe to play with. A lot of the things that happened after he left wasnt what he had planned for the characters.

The End isnt 616. It's Earth-41001

To him, those Rachel's would be genetic sisters of his Rachel, but Im guessing wouldnt have the same DNA as Rachel whereas alternate reality characters should all have the same DNA

again i dont see the problem. He created the character. If Bob Kane was still alive and returned to write Batman and decided he he was never supposed to be the master of preptime and did away with it would you be upset???

Considering the Batman we all know and love is based more off of the ideas of Bill Finger than Bob Kane, yes.

we all have different tastes...we arent suppsed t like everything

Same. I can't understand how so many people are getting so excited about it.

People are getting excited because there is a rather sizeable (I won't say large, but sizeable) contingent of X-Men fans who are more or less disgusted with a lot that's been happening with the 616 X-Men right now. We hope this series could bring us something more to our liking, because it seems to promise to go a different route.

That's about it in a nutshell.

I just read X-Men First Class.

I am in this group. Right now the Xmen are unreadable and it seems like they are just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks instead of having an actual plan.

I'm gonna go head and predict this'll be cancelled before issue #20.
I suspect that it is gonna last a bit longer than that. If Claremont plays his cards right, I could see this title being a successful AU a la Ultimate X-men (of course, I don't really like Ultimate X-men anymore).

I meant Chris at Florida Supercon and he was a real nice guy.He had some art work from upcoming issues and it looks promising. He signed two of my graphic novels and took a picture with me.I might be tempted to read Forever. It was fuuny when a guy in front of me gave Claremont a marvel zombies GN to sign and Chris gave him a WTF face.:woot:Then as the guy is trying to explain it to him and metions Sentry Claremont is like who?!He was so funny.:woot:

I just read X-Men First Class.

First Class i more handcuffed, though, in its attempt to simulate 616.

X-Men Forever won't be that.

Plus, you get more than the O5, a group I find horribly boring.
