No he wasnt fired he quit. At the time Jim Lee was becoming famous as were all the Image guys and Marvel began to notice that people were drawn to them. In and around the time of the CC/Jim Lee colaboration Jim Lee was rewritting CC's stories and the editor was taking Jim Lee's side. Having had enough Claremont quit and Marvel put all its marbles into Jim Lee and the Image guys...until they left.

Marvel survived quite well before he came along. They can certainly survive without him, thank you very much. What is Spiderman after all? Chopped liver?!

he didnt want to kill him but wanted to do a storyline similar to what was done in recent Wolverine where he was brainwashed and becomes the master assasin for the hand. This would have run for a year and then he would have breaking free and returning to the X-men. The editors didnt think that people would buy the book if Wolverine was gone from it for a year.

well at this time the Xmen were a comics juggernaut and was the top selling comic month in and month out. Merely putting wolverine on the cover guaranteed a sales spike on other books

no Claremont has pretty much said that Logan's death is permenant in this and that its a wake up call to himself and fans that anything can happen and that no one is safe

true but Claremont hasnt been one of these to lie to his fans. He posts regularly at Comixfan and has clearly said that Logan is dead and will remain that way....I hate Emma too
