Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

Just FYI, when I interviewed Craig Kyle he said he's good friends with Geoff Johns and he has a ton of respect for him.

It must sting a hell of lot, to know that his friend is more talented than he'll ever be, because we all know from his outside work that Yost is the sane semi-talented one. :o

I watched the Green Lantern movie and watched Geoff Johns take on GL and the video leading into Blackest Night and that guys is full of ideas....DC struck gold with him

and I love XMF

just got my copy of XMF 4 in the mail and I must say this book is getting better and better.
Highlights were:
Scott and Sabretooth...very reminiscent of Early Scott and Logan. Here Scott is a leader and bad ass without sacrificing his morals.
Jean's new costume.
Beast's old look....im a fan of the old monkey form
Sabretooth rising from the sewers in the same pose Logan had when he infiltrated the Inner Circle during the Dark Phoenix saga

Highlights were:

Jean's new costume.
I didnt like it. I thought her 90s costuime looked better but Im guessing this will be her default for now. Anyone else notice that it looks alot like Lorna's old Acolyte costume? That instantly popped up in my head when I saw it

I also prefer 90's Jean costume. Well, I prefer ALL of Jim Lee's costumes.

As for the series itself, I'm loving it. It feels old school. Classic claremont.

I agree that it's getting better, but it took issue 5 for me to start warming up to it. I'll hang with it for a while longer, just see what's going to happen with my boy, Gambit.

is there anyone who thinks this is better than the established continuity? personally, im finding it hard to believe this really what Claremont had in mind to write for X-Men issues 4-9- Jean and Logan's love affair, Storm betraying the X-Men and killing Logan, Kitty "becoming" Wolverine, Sabertooth being Logan's father, Sabertooth joining the X-Men, SHIELD playing big brother and keeping the X-Men in check, revealing preteen Ororo is a seperate person, and revealing the use of mutant powers actually decreases your life expentancy....all in one arc. i just can't help but feel that he's being radical for the sake of being radical and distinctly different from everything that's already happened since he left 18 years ago.

and where were Colossus, Iceman, Psylocke, Archangel and Jubilee? and arent Nightcrawler and Kitty supposed to be with Excalibur? they were all on Asteroid M (minus Nightcrawler and Kitty) when it blew, and that chase after Cortez starts right after the end of X-Men #3.

No, I don't think it is better than what we ended up with. It's like a What If? to me, mildly entertaining, but not as good as canon. Much of what I loved about Gambit and Logan came after the starting point of this series.

it is pretty entertaining. the fight against Cortez and the battle in the Danger Room were really good. and there is some good dialogue between characters, but all his big story beats i listed i have issue with.

yes I do believe that its better than what we got. Scott who isnt a complete dick, Xavier who is a worst villain than Magneto, and X-men who arent evenn featured in the books......XMF does not take place immediately after X-Men#3. X-men Forever Alpha showed a little memorial that the X-men had for Magneto. That is why Nightcrawler and Kitty were back at the mansion and several of the other cast members were gone. With Magneto dead a lot of the other X-men went on personal journeys to discover if the X-men is still needed after Magneto's death. Also Shield came to the X-men in 1-3 to take out Magneto and after he nuked russia and everything else that happened Shield decided to take an active part in the X-men.
Alot of what we have seen we dont know how they would have played out. Storm's betrayal is actually with in continuity of the books as we really dont know how one minute Storm was a teen and then was an adult in Genosha.

Logan became a caricature after Claremont left and is now this super healing unstappable monster. I prefered how Claremont portayed him. To be fair Gambit was in a handful of issues and I still like them better than emo Gambit that we got after he left

Exiles and Captain Britain die, but X-Men Forever lives on.

There is no justice. There's Just Us. And unfortunately, "Us" isn't a big enough number to keep good comics from getting cancelled.

I guess they haven't cancelled this yet because they don't know where to put Claremont after it, since they seem obligued to have him in one book. Personally, I prefer him out of continuity, so it's great he has his own 'What If?' book.

this book is selling quite well according to the sales numbers

So what does this new costume for Jean look like?
weve seen two. a blue and yellow x-uniform that looks pretty boring,

and a black and red phoenix costume.

but these have only been seen in promos and covers so far.

Hm, I don't like 'em much. I hate Gambit's look. Rogue and Storm look good, though. Is that Sabretooth on the team? And what's this about Storm betraying the team and killing Logan?

well Storm was reverted back to a child while the X-Men were in Australia and then disassembled. im still cloudy on the details, but during X-Tinction Agenda she was seen in Genosha as a mutate brought back to age, and then when all was said and done she rejoined the newly rebuilt X-Men.

well now it looks like the Storm they saved might not be the Storm we all knew. she's working for a shady group and had to kill Wolverine after he found out the truth. at the same time the pre-teen Storm (aka 'Ro), who met and became friends with Gambit before ending up in Genosha, made her way to the Xavier mansion and into their care. so now the question is who's the real one? Sabertooth has joined the team because it was revealed he's Logan's father and wants his revenge on Storm.

It sounds like Claremont is just cramming as many of his old ideas into each issue as possible, regardless of how jarring or out of the blue it might seem.

thats what im saying.

I can't help but wonder why it is that Kitty isn't getting sick from Adamantium poisoning. Wasn't there something about Logan getting sick from that when he was temporarily depowered? I think so.....
