My PS3 is broken AGAIN. This is the second time in 2 months. I turn it on, the menu comes up, but completely freezes before "Press the PS Button" or any of the other menu options apart what's on the main bar come up.

I was impressed with how fast Sony handeled my last one, they got back to me with a new one 2 days after I phoned them. But to have this one break on me too? I'm starting to think PS3's are just as bad as 360s, only the 360 gets one easily identifiable problem so it gets more recognition.

what kind of conditions are you keeping your ps3 in? is your room dusty? are you leaving it on alot? is it on the carpet? are you blocking any of the air vents?

Nope. The last one I had in a corner, and it lasted a year and a half. So this time I moved it down onto my desk with much more ventalation. But its the holidays and I am using it more often.

Got a used PS3 at Gamestop last March, a couple of months ago it broke, sent it in with $149, Sony exchanged it, that one lasted about 5 hours after I got it, sent that in and they exchanged it, (no charge this time) been using this one about three weeks now with no problems (yet).

Seems if you were unlucky enough to get one that breaks, you're on Sony's screwing around list.

You had to pay for a 360 replacement before they extended the warranty from 1 year to 3 years.

You have to pay $149 if it's out of warranty. Mine wasn't covered because I bought it used at GAMESTOP. Luckily, Sony gives you a ninety day warranty when they exchange or repair a unit, so I didn't have to pay a second time.

They seem to think its a software corruption... which made me think that maybe Resistance 2 or Valkyria Chronicles had broken it.

Had mine for just over a year and luckily had no problems with it. But a friend of mine has had his for about 6 months and it stopped working 2 weeks ago. Sounds like you got the exact same prob Electo. Hope the next one you get gives you no jip! Third time lucky eh?

Myself, I had my PS2 for about 5 years before it bit the dust. My PS3 has already been sent in to Sony and exchanged for a rehabbed unit twice, and I've only had it since April of last year.
