I think it's laughable to suggest that an older Montoya would be less inspiring than a younger one. Young women and young people are inspired by older women too. Plus, there are plenty of young role models in the genre, so why not give older women and older people in general someone who can prove that being 50 years-old isn't a handicap. There are plenty of women Perez's age who are still hot and badass, including in the DCEU (e.g. Robin Wright's Antiope). Spare me the ageism dressed up as concern for representation and inspiration.

Because she's the only Latina in the DCEU, and will likely be the only one for a long time (until Jessica shows up). Rosie is too old for Montoya!!

I was looking forward to this movie, but now not so much. The cast has been quite mediocre so far. Better get some great views and wow me with the trailers/promo images because this cast isn't hyping me up...

i love Renee as a tough cop but not so much as The Question so i like this casting.

Jenkins didn't even cast Gadot as Diana, but she did cast Kristen Wiig as Cheetah.

I think it has been interesting the way female directors have been casting female roles. Even the way Jenkins cast the Amazons. You can see how it is different to the way Snyder portrayed the Amazons in JL. I thought they were both interesting, but of course it will be different to the "male gaze" of male directors.

True but for what's worth, Gadot was chosen out of final 3 choices and she had to give a screen-test with Ben Affleck.

who were the other 2 again?

Elodie Yung and Olga Kurylenko.

I believe the point being made was that Gadot was cast in BvS by Snyder, before Jenkins even came on board for the WW solo. Jenkins has said that she wasn't able to cast Diana but once she got to know and work with Gal she was happy it was her.

I’m perfectly happy with Gadot, but I wonder what could’ve been if Elodie Young had been cast in the role.

I imagine WW, at least, would’ve been a much different movie.

I don’t think Yung would’a been much different. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jenkins spoke so much of using Gadot’s natural personality and charm to help characterize Wonder Woman that I believe the casting of another actress would’ve led to a (not necessarily radically) different characterization.

Never realized how much Olga looks like Gal until I saw her recently on that show Magic City

But one thing that would be different with Elodie would be height since she's 5'5"

Olga was one of my favorites for the role even before she was announced as a finalist. I think she would've been nearly as good as Gal for sure.

Gadot is fine but I think the other guys could have worked as well.

It’s pointless to talk about “what could’ve been” when Gadot has been Wonder Woman for 3 films so far, with an upcoming 4th one, and is acclaimed as the best thing about the universe. You don’t see many wonder if Bill Murray or Willem Dafoe would’ve made a good Batman and the Joker for Burton’s Batman respectively.

That actually would've been perfectly cast, the king of straight man "Bill Murray" comedy and the guy who would one day be Gobbie.

I think it would have been totally different. Whether it would have been as loved is too difficult to judge. The great irony is Gadot's lack of range and essentially playing herself was beneficial in winning people over because she made Diana genuinely likeable. A female friend of mine described her as the type of girl most women would want to be BFF's with. Coming across as genuinely likeable is a very hard thing for actors to do.

Pointless speculating is 90% of what we do, where you been?

I still regularly think about how different things would have been if Superman Lives would have happened.

I genuinely think Superman Lives would've been 100x better than Superman Returns, MOS, BvS, and JL. At least Nic Cage has charisma. I think he would've done a great job.

More movies need Nic Cage. What’s your point?
