What's normally the origin or explanation for the "Black" in Black Canary's name? I like the spin they're taking on it, personally. Jurnee's also ideal for it. She played maternal, fierce, kind, leader on Underground to perfection while Winstead had a mobster vibe, for lack of a better phrase, on Fargo. I think they got this right, and I trust Robbie's instincts.

Also the obvious "she wears mostly black clothing, and either dyes her hair blonde or wears a blonde wig and her superpower is a sonic scream" fits in with the name as well.

Neat, thanks. I wasn't aware that such a color in canaries existed, though, or that, if it did, that they were called black canaries. Even so, why would Dinah specifically choose that name? Is there an issue or something else that explains that in her origin story?

Why race change any of them? Black actress for Huntress. White for Canary. It's kinda odd to me that they did it this way.

They just need to cast Black Mask and Cass and they should be good

Race swapping issues aside, they are really banking on Margot Robbie’s name alone to carry this film with this casting. I still think WB have grossly overestimated Harley Quinn’s appeal.

When has Huntress ever been black? She's always been an Italian-American white woman who has a daddy who's apart of the Italian Mob. I think people got confused when she was drawn with a dark tan and started saying she was black.

I'm surprised this doesn't have a forum yet but I'm sure it will in the next few days. Eternals and Widow just got one and they're probably further away.

Anyway, what little interest I had in this went away after these castings. I'll still see it but just meh. How I feel about the whole thing.

Doesn't help that Suicide Squad was so bad

Thrilled about MEW, sad about Gugu. I've seen Smollett-Bell in a couple of shows and she was alright, though. I'm sure she'll be fine. I still think these roles should be reversed, but oh well.

I thought this film was coming out after the Joker and Harley Quinn film. MEW actually makes me interested in this when I wasn't before. I'm still cautiously optimistic since it's a DC film.

She's not black in this photo, she's Italian they just made her skin darker.
