OMG!! Akira Toriyama is involved in this movie!!!

I don't see why they would have to "cut a deal" with him. They own the property writes. He was never involved to begin with.

And if he is an 'executive producer', it's no different then Stan Lee on all the Marvel movies. His name is on the film but he's not really involved in the projects in any way.

The only franchise in recent memory that i can think of where the original creator had an actual say in the creative process of the film was Mike Mignola for Hellboy, and still Hellboy was VASTLY different than what it is in the comics, and Mike Mignola likes it that way. In his mind, there is Mike Mignola's Hellboy, and then there is Guillermo Del Torro's Hellboy. Two separate worlds.

What we're seeing now is James Wong's Dragonball, and it looks as if Akira is perfectly fine with that. Fans need to accept that. . .

Especially if they're able to accept Chris Nolan's Batman and Byan Singer's X-Men.

I agree 100%

I 100% agree with you. My problem with this movie is that fox hasn't marketed this properly at all and they haven't been able WOW me. I know the F4 and x3 movies weren't good but their trailer wowed me. I liked the trailer that came out but it was lacking in many ways. I really hope they have something amazing next trailer. Also, fox has dumped this in april where movies bomb for the most part which scares me.

just because Akira put out a public statement that sounds very PC doesn't mean he's perfectly fine with it. even if he is, that doesn't mean that we have to accept this exploitation.

this movie is TOTALLY imcomparible to both BB and TDK, in fact, quite the opposite. Nolan introduced a previously non-existent childhood friend while Wong omitted an important childhood friend. as for Bryan Singer's X-Men, even though i liked the first 2, i've always had a problem with the changes that were made. looking back the only X-film i STILL like is X2.

I don't see how that aren't comparable. We never saw Jack Kirby and Stan Lee's X-Men on film, we saw Bryan Singers. The same with Nolan's Batman. It's very much Nolan's Batman, and nobody else.

Another great example is how we saw Richard Donner's Superman instead of Jerry Seigel's. And in 2006, Bryan Singer once again gave us Richard Donner's Superman.

So? They still aren't comparable. Those movies were at least faithful to the source material while this doesn't even come close. Take out the Dragonballs and you get a cliche kung-fu movie.

I love Nolan's Batman, but they took enough liberties with the source material, IMO, to hardly be labeled "faithful."

yes, yes....just like we never saw Tolkien's Lord of the Rings nor did we see Stan Lee's Spider-Man. this movie has as much in common with Nolan's Batman as the rest of the movies you and i just named. that doesn't mean that all of these movies are comparable to each other when we get past their creators.

Dragonball could simply have been a lot more than just another realistic movie attempt like X-Men or TDK. At least with comic book movies I understand it, the comics already take place in our world. You have places like America, China, England or whatever.

But Dragonball is a whole different thing. It's like the Neverending Story on crack with martial arts action and a whole lot of comedy throw in. The thought "How do I make this realistic?" should never have entered anyone's mind.

See, that is your opinion. From what I've seen this film looks a helluva lot more faithful that X-Men ever was.

I agree with you on that also JP

did you see Wolverine in tight yellow and blue spandex in X-Men?

Yeah...you've said that before and it's still a ridiculous statement. Just my opinion.

That just looks like one example guy......man you jump to conclusions so easily

Jump to conclusions? Hilarious. Do feel free to list some more then louie.

I'm not the one who started the list :o plus I'm too tired

X-Men wasn't faithful because of some costume changes? That's the best you guys can come up with? Please...
X-Men wasn't faithful because of the looks and personalities of the majority of the characters.

You mean kind of like this Dragon Ball movie?

Like a young Roshi that looks exactly like Chow Yun Fat?

That's one character's aesthetic change. We don't know how intact the personality of Roshi is yet.

How would you know their personalities without seeing the film? Just basing it off the trailer which has very minimal dialogue?

It's mostly their looks, but I can tell from the trailer that their personalities are off. The only one they seem to have gotten right is Piccolo.
