Once Upon A Time In Wonderland

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Exclusive: Keith David to Voice Cheshire Cat

Well, this is purrrrfect.

ABC’s Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has called upon a very cool cat and voice work veteran, Keith David, to voice its Cheshire Cat.

Alice’s feline foil will first “appear” (or, you know, not) in the premiere episode of the Once spin-off’s freshman season.

Elsewhere “behind the scenes,” John Lithgow (3rd Rock from the Sun) voices Wonderland’s White Rabbit, while The Who’s Roger Daltrey is reprising his Once role as the hookah smoking Caterpillar.

In addition to David’s on-camera work on TV series (such as the upcoming Fox comedy Enlisted, The Cape and ER) and on the big screen, his extensive voiceover resume includes the Saints Row and Marvel’s Heroes videogames, narrating History’s The Bible miniseries and Community‘s “Pillows and Blankets” episode, and bringing to life Spawn in a late-90s animated series.

Keith David?!

I can't wait to see their character design for the Cheshire Cat. I quite liked their Caterpillar and what I've seen of the White Rabbit.

Cast Photos

I don't mind Naveen's costume, but the hair just looks ridiculous.

Um Jafar needs more color in his outfit. Namely red.

Lithgow's voice fits perfect with the White Rabbit.

do you think he'll have his Cobra staff? that would be a cool little nod to the film or even include Iago? lol

Really looking forward to this! After watching Season 1 on Netflix then buying the second season Blu-Ray as soon as it came out Once Upon a Time is my favorite show on TV right now alongside Doctor Who. I hope Wonderland is just as fantastic as the main show!

Daltrey voiced The Caterpillar in a previous episode of Once Upon a Time but was unavailable to reprise the role, according to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news.

Whaaaaaat?:up: Shame they couldn't hang on to Daltrey, though.

Hopefully they give him more material than one line.

Adams as Doctor #2 and Keith David as the voice of the Cheshire Cat.

Tweedledee and Tweedledum too, huh? Awesome. :awesome::up:

Im praying this turns out good and does good in ratings especially since it's in abcs death slot.

If it's the first to be successful in the slot *fingers crossed*, you can bet that everyone reporting about it will make a joke about a Once Upon a Time series "breaking a curse".

Even if it doesn't do stellar in the ratings - they're only doing 13 episodes and then the self contained story is done for this one.

They could could certainly put another spin-off such as OUAT in Oz, Neverland, or wherever and put it in a different time slot next fall.

That's the great thing about this whole approach to just doing a one and done (as of right now) spin-off. It doesn't have to do spectacular in the ratings because it's ending after a certain amount of episodes anyway.

The trailers/ads for this look spectacular, production wise. I hope that the original show looks as lush this season. Disney's got enough money to do these things right on tv these days.

Also, as a BBC/SYFY Being Human fan it warms my heart to see Tom the Werewolf getting work.

The show isn't just going to be a 13-episode 'one-off'. Although ABC has only scheduled it to run for 13 eps right now, we know from the PTBs that it will be getting more than just the 13 eps for this season.

As for the show switching settings, people have somehow gotten it into their heads that it's an 'anthology series', but it's not. If it's successful, future seasons will feature the same cast, characters, and setting, but tell brand-new close-ended stories.

Can Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Save ABC's 8/7c Timeslot on Thursdays?
by Natalie Abrams

Just as Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been tasked to open ABC's Tuesday night lineup, fellow new series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has the dubious honor of filling the network's problematic Thursdays at 8/7c timeslot, which hasn't produced a hit since the Ugly Betty days.

The Once Upon a Time spin-off, which tells the story of Alice (Sophie Lowes) returning to Wonderland to find her true love, will debut on Thursday, Oct. 10 in a slot that seems cursed over the last few years. My Generation was canceled after just two episodes, and Charlie's Angels was axed after four. Both Missing and Last Resort aired their short episode orders, but weren't picked up for additional episodes or second seasons.

However, unlike the male-targeted Last Resort, Wonderland is destined to follow its predecessor by drawing in the female-skewing audience that ABC is used to for a night that includes stalwart medical series Grey's Anatomy and hit drama Scandal. And though Once returned down 33 percent from last year, the fairy tale drama still drew 8.5 million viewers and a 2.6 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic on Sunday — numbers ABC certainly wouldn't mind bringing in ahead of Grey's, which returned down 30 percent (9.3 million, 3.4). Scandal's third season is expected to fare very well thanks to strong buzz from its ever-present Twitter fan base, critical recognition, Emmy nominations (and a win for Dan Bucatinsky) and new viewers brought in from Netflix and airing in syndication on BET.

But on Thursday nights, Wonderland will face somewhat tough competition. Parks and Recreation and The X Factor have entirely different fan bases, so they shouldn't be a problem. But genre series The Vampire Diaries, with its female-heavy audience, could prove to be a slight issue. However, it's The Big Bang Theory, which hit record ratings in its premiere hour last week, that ABC really has to worry about. The second episode of the CBS comedy drew 20.44 million viewers and a 6.1 rating, making it the current No. 1 show on Thursday nights. (Full disclosure: TVGuide.com is owned by CBS.)

For that reason alone, it was curious that ABC didn't decide to debut similarly geeky show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Thursday nights. The network did, however, sample a rerun of the premiere in that timeslot the same week it debuted. Both S.H.I.E.L.D. and Once have built-in audiences, but S.H.I.E.L.D. hails from a billion-dollar franchise, making it an obvious choice to save a timeslot that has been plagued by years of disappointment. Still, Once's audience should help boost the spin-off, if the series doesn't ultimately indoctrinate new viewers on its own. Wonderland mostly tries to narrow its focus on Alice and her world (with a few choice visitors, natch), instead of Once's deluge of dozens of fairy tale characters from different lands.

Only time will tell whether Wonderland can bring that same magic as the flagship series, but Once and Wonderland producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are wasting no time in making sure the spin-off has solid footing. In addition to having a strong and recognizable female protagonist, they've already promised there will be some crossover with the Once characters, and they've enlisted Lost alum Naveen Andrews to play Aladdin baddie Jafar. It's no Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) making a cameo, but hopefully it will be enough to get ABC out of its Thursday at 8/7c funk.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland premiere Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c on ABC. Will you be watching?
Fingers crossed.

I hope it does but I won't be surprised if it doesn't. You think abc would notice that Thursday 8pm slot is cursed after they unfairly moved ugly Betty from it. They also need to do something about their Sunday 10pm slot which hasn't found success since brothers&sisters. They either need to change things or not expect those two slots to not get above 6/7mill viewers on average.

At the very least, I think it will do better than the last four. Missing was too late in the game, Last Resort was too male for ABC and that night especially, that My Generation was clearly a DOA newbie and Charlie's Angels looked like hot garbage from the start, I only convinced myself otherwise because I was distracted by how damn pretty Minka Kelly is.

I just think there are more ingredients here pointing to Wonderland being at least semi-successful. It's an extension of an already successful series on the network, everyone knows Alice in Wonderland, there's the female lead/core 'ship which the Grey's/Scandal crowd obviously love....

I feel like they should move Wonderland to Sunday nights. Betrayal flopped, so just move Revenge to Betrayal's slot and Wonderland to Revenge's.
