Same here... but Sacosa loves the character too much, and I think he has plans for her after his run on Sensational...

To me, she's the only candidate to die that ISN'T from the Silver Age...May, MJ, and Robbie are all Silver Age. BC is a modern character for the most part, so i view her as the most expendable...

CaptainStacy: To me, she's the only candidate to die that ISN'T from the Silver Age...May, MJ, and Robbie are all Silver Age. BC is a modern character for the most part, so i view her as the most expendable...

Yeh, i don't think that it would make good sense to kill Joe R. since Marvel has been talking about trying to strengthen Pete's supporting cast...not kill off what support IS left currently....and he is one of the few strong supporting cast members we have.

The advertising for the OMD event tho, states..."It is a shoulder he'll not be able to cry on ever again"...specifically...

And i don't see Black Cat or Joe as someone Pete goes to (often)when he feels like crying...for them to make that statement.

SO, it would seems it'll be either Mary Jane or Aunt May. (for that)

And since MJ dying would make Pete a widower, and age him more....(as JQ has stated many times...)....doesn't that leave you with Aunt May?

I hope not tho...after advertising about DIRT NAPS and someone being THROWN UNDER THE BUS....(arghy)....that'd be kinda irreverant hype for someone's death like Aunt May who is so iconic and should be respected as a character.....(well, for anyone but..)

Its seems as it will be Aunt May.

To be honest I was thinking Jameson for a while but then remembered they aren't on speaking terms right now, but we don't know what will happen in the next 3 months or so. This was before I read this....

"It is a shoulder he'll not be able to cry on ever again"

I'm leaning towards Aunt May more than MJ.

EDIT: I know off-topic but when do I be able to choose my own avatar? Thanks.

I hope they don't kill off/remove MJ and the marriage from the books. If they do, I'm going to drop all things Spider-Man, except for the classic reprints that come out.
yeah, I mean why kill MJ? She's an important Character. The comics aren't what they once were. Sure the "Back And Black" story is good but alot of other storylines are not good. I mean what ever happened to the old Storylines? I just hope they don't kill off MJ.

I just hope that whoever they gonna kill in "one more day", they'll make this death count, and stick with it no matter what (I think I might be in complete denial right now lol), because I absolutely hate when I see "Yeah big change in Spidey' life blah blah blah" and I'm like "Yeah whatever" (a feeling I've had to much with some of recent Spidey' storyline)

Yeh, but why would Pete date his wife???? Wouldn't that be...a bit silly??

And, i am not sure we need MJ to become a superhero of sorts to be interesting. Isn't that a bit cliche?

Well no, it's not silly. Because if Swing Shift is any indication, after One More Day, Peter and MJ will no longer be married.

And how is MJ becoming a superhero of sorts, cliche?

I think it would make her, and the relationship, interesting again.

Ok, I've made a choice. No matter how OMD turns out, no matter if Spidey's whole history reverts, be it Aunt May survivng but not knowing Peter is Spidey (Which I still think she should) Or even if Mj and him aren't married but she...becomes Jackpot...*sigh* I will suck it the hell up, get past my ill feelings towards it, and still be around. I'll admit, I'm apart of Nu Marvel, and they could do anythig to the character and I wouldn't care. But I have a certain respect for the past, when time was a lot easier in the spidey books. (IMO, it all went to hell around the clone saga. I liked most of the early 90's stories, even peter's "parents" which was so ****ed up) So I will give it a chance. I will like it, I know I will because I will block out the part of my brain that makes me angry when I don't like something. And I won't complain, which is something I don't do about spidey now. Again, they killed him and I didn't have a problem with that. Now, I'll list a few things that I hated about old spidey.(Amazing)

I hated how everyone, including his girlfriends, thought he was weak.
I hated how Aunt May babied the hell out of him.
I hate how she was always having a heart attack..
I hated that she didn't die.
I hated how Peter would decide to tell someone he was Spider-man, but ***** out of it.
I hated how he told not one of the people closest to him that he was spider-man when their lives were always in danger because he was spider-man.
I hated the bugle.
I hated Peter Parker. Ok, this is true and false. I hated Peter sometimes, a lot. But I fell in love with him when JMS came over. He lighted Peter up, made him a fun guy.
I hated Aunt May always *****ing about the evil of Spider-man, which is why I hate issue 400 because then it would mean that she was a ****ing ***** for some time. ****ing c*nt.
I hated Flash. No, I've always hated him. I liked him when Peter and him became friends, but not much. I always had a problem with him being spideys biggest fan, but peter's greatest foe.:whatever:
I hated Mackie.
I hated Gwen. Ok, only when she hated spidey, but that was a big deal because you're basically hating your boyfriend.
I hated MJ's big hair.
I hated Jill Stacy. And her brother... and her father.
Captain Stacy was cool.
I hated that there were probably 4 or 5 important black people in the book. That would be Robbie. Was it Randy? Robbie's son, I mean. Glory. Hobbie, and hobby's girlfriend/wife.
I hated how Peter didn't keep his friends. When's the last time he spoke to Randy?
I hated how Johnny Storm was his supposed best superhero friend, but didn't discover the secret ID until 2005.

Overall, I hated a lot of things, and I hate more but can't think of them at the moment. The point I was making was that even though I hated so much, it's what made me like reading the book. I said it before, I have a respect for the history. So all of my hate, in a way, has made me love... The things I hate are what made the character who he was, so if they want to bring that back I say let them. (Again, I'm blocking out the anger that's inside. I don't want a revert, but I'll deal, with a smile on my face, and an issue in my hand... ALMOST EVERYWEEK!! BOOYAH!)

Geez. Are you sure you wann keep reading?:cwink: I kind of made up my own mind that if the marriage continues after OMD, after 25 years I will drop the Spidey books. I'm tired of reading an abberation.

^wow....that's a lot of hate!...lol...

Dark Spidey: Well no, it's not silly. (having pete and mj dating) Because if Swing Shift is any indication, after One More Day, Peter and MJ will no longer be married.

I've already READ the "Dating" years and eventual progression into the marriage which that led to. So, IMO, it would be silly, and pointless to take us back and re-read them dating again. And just because they can't "remember", having the married couple "date" would make it sillier.

If they want to split them up so bad, just to lead to them possibly dating, I also think THAT logic is funny too...and contradictive. It also leeches out any drama...because you KNOW the relationship won't go anywhere, there we be NO progression, and "the couple who is married but can't remember -but is now dating"....won't be allowed to re-marry. That is the best i can explain imo why it would be such a silly scenario....to say the least.

Imagine your favorite ongoing tv show that has an ongoing STORY and suddenly the writers take everything back to where it was at the beginning. Fans would balk because they had already SEEN that part of the characters lives before. Same thing here.

So, you want the marriage to END...??

(and what would you think if it DID end, and they dated??)

I'll keep reading ASM if the marriage ends, but if I don't adapt to the change, I'm dropping it. I have high hopes though, now that JMS is off the title.

Yeah I know we've already seen them dating. But this time it would be different. MJ would be a superhero (of sorts) too. So that changes the game slightly into something we haven't seen before with her and Peter.

And really, what's the alternative? MJ dead? Yawn. Seen it before. Peter and MJ continue as a married couple? Yawn again. There's just no wind left in those sails. I read the Sensational Annual, which to me, felt like a cap on the whole marriage. As in it's done. There's no more story potential there.

No doubt you'll disagree.

Man, i hope it isnt Joe Robertson...that would suck just as much as any of the ladies....if someone HAS to go, i'd vote for Black Cat...

Agreed, if they "HAVE" to off someone, make it Miss Hardy, could never really get into her character at all

Agreed. Having a married couple divorce/serperate/get mindwiped by a gigantic lizard/squid hybrid/whatever is totally stupid. Here's a thought: how about having Peter and Mj REMAIN married, and date as well? They could go out and do stuff like dinner, movies, hanging with other couples (the ones Marvel hasn't killed off over the years), and meeting new people, etc? Why not show how Peter doesn't fit into MJ's world, and how she doesn't really fit into his, but they fit with each other....which is why they got married in the first place!

Also, a relationship that we know will NEVER go past serious dating is simply ridiculous!! WHy even have Mary Jane in the book? Why even have any girl in the book? Why bother with any Peter Parker stuff at all, if you KNOW that his life as Spidey will ALWAYS prevent him from getting too close to anyone?!

You know what, Marvel, we already have a character who can't get too close to others because of his double-life, and his name is f***ing Batman. I can understand why Batman will NEVER be married...his dedication and his CHOICE to carry on his crusade prevent him from doing so.

Peter Parker didn't choose to become Spider-Man, he was a victim of circumstance...and just wanted a normal life. His struggle to balance the two is what makes him interesting, and what sets him apart from every other character ever created! If he can't get some personal victories as Peter Parker (marriage, children, friends, family, etc.), then why even bother addressing that aspect? Just make him Spider-Man 24/7 like you've done sicne the unmasking and forget he's even under that mask....then atch your readership became bored with a character which they can no longer relate to...which is why you CONSTANTLY have to "shock" readers into reading again....because they know you've strayed too far, and that your ONLY method of dragging them back is by making them feel they're missing something important...which, judging from the past 4 years of Spidey tales and screw-ups, we're not missing anything worthwhile.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong, and that we can just get a solid book out of all this mess, and keep it going for a few years before you muck it up again.

At least I have Sensational....for a few more issues...:cmad:

No doubt you'll disagree.

Of course i disagree, but that's cool, we all have our opinions...there IS still LOTS of story potential there. Anyone who IS married knows EVERY day is a new adventure. Life continues, life changes & you live & grow TOGETHER. Real life progression!!
Sensational Annual was good, & I didn't see it as "a cap on the whole marriage", but it was showing how if a writer WANTS to write it, they can very well do so.

"Superhero MJ", mindwiped not knowing she is married...dating Pete...is not anything NEW AND EXCITING, imo.

AND How is that different?....~She'd still be "MJ"....just like Spidey right now and always has been just "Pete". Does MJ (one partner) changing her clothes (into superhero tights) REALLY add an amazing new dynamic to dating your husband? We've done that already, minus MJ wearing a costume.

Yeh, I know my wife and I STILL call it "dates" when we go out, despite being married 8 years. It'd be nice to see Pete & MJ do that, and be written like a real couple...with real situations/problems that could pop up within THEIR lifestyle (Spidey's).

There is SOoo much possiblity & story there...yet Marvel putts around trying to KILL HER, WRITE (SILLIER) WAYS OUT OF IT....TO MINDWIPE MJ....or MAKE MJ A SUPERHERO, etc....to create the tension & drama...instead of looking closer to home (real life) for their ideas.

I am REALLY looking forward to OMD now...at least to see what they will ACTUALLY DO...after all JQ's talk. I am itchin' to see what their GRAND SOLUTION is to making spidey better, besides canceling all their comics just to name them all Amazing. I REALLY hope they get it right.

One person who does deserve to live is Black Cat! :cwink:

If MJ is indeed to become "Jackpot", as foreshadowed by the FCBD story Swing Shift. Then I think it'd be cool to have them both on the scene. Counterpoints to eachother. Maybe not having them together as partners. But certainly having Peter dating the two of them. :woot:

But if MJ becomes "Jackpot" (as I strongly suspect she will be) then what's the purpose of having Black Cat be a part of Spidey's world? Answer: none. Heck, the three-parter over in Sensational that detailed the women in Peter's life (MJ, Aunt May, Black Cat) pretty much all but wrote out Black Cat as a temptress for Spidey, in that she recognized that whatever romantic possibility she had with Spidey is long gone and that she needs to find herself a new role that doesn't revolve around him (not unlike what Brubaker tried to do with Catwoman IMO). It's no accident then that she's now a member of Heroes for Hire if you look at it in that light.

If the marriage between Peter and MJ is erased via time-travel (courtesy of Dr. Strange and Spidey having to sacrifice something else he holds dear in order to restore the balance of preventing Aunt May being shot by the sniper and thus restoring her back to life) and Mary Jane ends up adopting the "Jackpot" identity, then she replaces Black Cat's role: a fiesty, reckless superheroine--as opposed to super-criminal--who is attracted to the hero and who tries to partner up with him as a means of getting closer to him romantically. And since Spidey would be single again as a result, and Joe Q mentioned a need to restore "soap opera elements" (i.e. love triangles), I suspect that means that the revamped Peter/MJ relationship that echoes the Spidey/Black Cat relationship will be one side of the triangle. As for the other side, well guess which long time female supporting cast member has been getting more play in Friendly-Neighborhood Spider-Man? That's right: Betty Brant. After all, a relationship between Peter and Betty would also harken back to the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko days, would it not?

OK can someone give me a quick recap of this "Jackpot" person?? I've never heard of her/him?....sounds like a hooky bad guy from the 90's ala arcade.....

She was a "new" superhero who showed up in the Free Comic Book Day version of Amazing Spider-Man written by Dan Slott. Apparently, Slott has said that a lot of what happened in that issue hints at things post "One More Day" in the Spidey comics. Anyway, "Jackpot" helped Spidey fight a villain who was also a Spidey fanboy. Apart from uttering the line, "Go get 'em, Tiger" and that her moniker comes from the line "Face it, Tiger...you hit the Jackpot!" she just "happens" to look like a certain red head:

Never got the free comic book day comic :(.....and for the record, I think I'd rather them kill her :(

I imagine having guys constantly saying, "I'd like to hit that" would get really old. :o

It'd still be funny the first time.:p

Anyway, If Jackpot is to be, I'll give it a shot. Now, does She look like a big ***** or what? Also, She must be part of the SHRA. She said she was trained. She'd also still have to know who Peter was.

I know. I would love to see Marvel get something "right" with Spidey...especially after getting him wrong for so long.

I just hate how JQ and company treat Peter's life like it is "over" because he got married. It's ridiculous! Peter can still have women coming onto him, and have him deal with the married man problem of having women who want you BECAUSE they can't have you. It happens to all of us at least once. Then, have Peter do the right thing and turn a chick down cold, citing that he has a wife at home who he would do anything for, then have him get home, only to find that he forgot to pick up the dry-cleaning or supper, and get fussed out by MJ, and end up just rolling his eyes at the irony of the entire situation. Ta-da! One interesting sub-plot thought up by a guy who only got about 3 hours sleep! It's yours, Marvel! Take it and run with it! Also, it's a situation EVERY married man has had happen to them at least once, so readers can relate to Peter's problem! Isn't that the idea behind an "everyman"?

Great idea! There are tons that we could all think of that would be more down to earth and an "Everyman" kinda scenario that is easier to relate to.

I always thought "Writers"....wrote....they are suppose to be able to handle "Writing"...yet it is weird to keep hearing writers at marvel say how they can't write "marriage"....they blame anys tory they feel is bad the past 20 years on it, they throw their hands up in the air & giving up on it....they are obviously either:

A.) Not married
B.) Uncapable/unwilling of writing a relationship , fathoming the possibilities. Maybe it is just the "kryptonite" topic of many marvel writers? I do not know.
However, I think there are plenty of writers that COULD. Writers tthat can write about ANY topic...and have imagination, which a writer should be able to handle something as basic as "marriage". The topic is only made "funner" (new word! :yay: ) when it involves a superhero.

And as per MJ as "jackpot"...is that the best someone could come up with? Avoiding the marriage, mindwiping her it seems to make her an alternate timeline superhero?? Hmn.

And the name...comes from her "saying"....(You've just hit the jackpot tiger!") Taking a saying, she is known for, & calling her "Jackpot" specifically...it feels like they (writers) are scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas.

That's like taking Charlie Brown (who JQ often compares spidey stuff to, so i will take the liberty also..) and making him a villian named "GRIEF" ...based on HIS saying..."Good Grief".....

Creative i ask????
