Great idea! There are tons that we could all think of that would be more down to earth and an "Everyman" kinda scenario that is easier to relate to.

I always thought "Writers"....wrote....they are suppose to be able to handle "Writing"...yet it is weird to keep hearing writers at marvel say how they can't write "marriage"....they blame anys tory they feel is bad the past 20 years on it, they throw their hands up in the air & giving up on it....they are obviously either:

A.) Not married
B.) Uncapable/unwilling of writing a relationship , fathoming the possibilities. Maybe it is just the "kryptonite" topic of many marvel writers? I do not know.
However, I think there are plenty of writers that COULD. Writers tthat can write about ANY topic...and have imagination, which a writer should be able to handle something as basic as "marriage". The topic is only made "funner" (new word! :yay: ) when it involves a superhero.

And as per MJ as "jackpot"...is that the best someone could come up with? Avoiding the marriage, mindwiping her it seems to make her an alternate timeline superhero?? Hmn.

And the name...comes from her "saying"....(You've just hit the jackpot tiger!") Taking a saying, she is known for, & calling her "Jackpot" specifically...it feels like they (writers) are scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas.

That's like taking Charlie Brown (who JQ often compares spidey stuff to, so i will take the liberty also..) and making him a villian named "GRIEF" ...based on HIS saying..."Good Grief".....

Creative i ask????

Yeah....I enjoyed Swing Shift (spidey's characterization and the artwork), but when I saw "Jackpot", I cringed. That CANNOT be the solution. I'm half-expecting MJ and Black Cat to get retcon punched, and it cause the two to morph into one being....(God, don't let Marvel read this)

As for the writers, I think back to something my pastor used to say, "There are stumbling blocks and stepping stones....the only difference is how you use them."

The marriage is like that. It has been the stumbling block of most writers, where as a select few use it as a stepping stone. Honestly, I think that, if Marvel REALLY feels this adamantly about getting readers to enjoy the book, that they shouldn't undo the past 20 years of continuity just so that a bunch of egomaniacal writers can get their way and get to go back and try and outdo those who wrote a single Peter Parker. Why not just write an intersting married Peter Parker?

In my honest opinion, having a well-written married couple in the book would be far more interesting than a single Spidey. Marriage is complex, and it's really the most angst-ridden aspect of life that you can ever undertake, next to parenthood (which we'll NEVER see in a Spidey book), and I think it's time tha Marvel utilized it, as opposed to ignoring it.

Oh yeah...GRIEf and JACKPOT...the Ultimate Team-Up!!

I know. I would love to see Marvel get something "right" with Spidey...especially after getting him wrong for so long.

I just hate how JQ and company treat Peter's life like it is "over" because he got married. It's ridiculous! Peter can still have women coming onto him, and have him deal with the married man problem of having women who want you BECAUSE they can't have you. It happens to all of us at least once. Then, have Peter do the right thing and turn a chick down cold, citing that he has a wife at home who he would do anything for, then have him get home, only to find that he forgot to pick up the dry-cleaning or supper, and get fussed out by MJ, and end up just rolling his eyes at the irony of the entire situation. Ta-da! One interesting sub-plot thought up by a guy who only got about 3 hours sleep! It's yours, Marvel! Take it and run with it! Also, it's a situation EVERY married man has had happen to them at least once, so readers can relate to Peter's problem! Isn't that the idea behind an "everyman"?
Good idea! I LOVED this scene...

Let me tell you, as a girl I find that Peter being all moral is HOT!

I LOVED that scene. See....that's what I HATE about JMS....he's done all these scenes I love, but, at the saem time, he's done the ones I hat ethe most.

Still, love or hate him, he writes the marriage fairly well.

I swear I'm not trying to be a smarta**, but I just want to note that even a single Spidey would also do this.:yay: It is a good scene though.

^True, but it is even more AMAZING since he is married here.

LOL. Great point. (And I suppose Grief's (Charlie's Brown's) foes would be "Blockhead" (Lucy) and the invisivble "Wonk Wonk.")

Moreover, if this is Marvel solution to the Mary Jane problem, it pretty much confirms that their biggest criticism to Peter and MJ being married in that readers couldn't relate to their relationship because "An ordinary guy like Peter would never fall in love with a supermodel much less marry one" is a dumptruck load of crap. If readers can't relate to Peter and MJ being together because it's "unrealistic" for an ordinary guy to have a relationship with a "supermodel/actress" whose out of his league socially, then how is it realistic for him to have a possible relationship with a "superheroine" which in real life don't exist (not to mention how he's had one with Black Cat in 616 and with Kitty Pryde in Ultimate already)?

Based on Jackpot's horrid choice in fashion, I'd also say a team-up with the Hypno-Hustler is in the near future as well.

Disco lives forever, baby!:woot:

Ah, so it's not just me. Despite not being a mod, SpideyInaTree feels it's his civic duty to tell posters to leave the board or go on a "nice vacation" when he happens to disagree with their posts, despite not being personally insulted by said posters.

I didn't tell him to do anything. I said it "sounds" like. Not "You better". Nice try though, haha. And if I were moderator like nobody would be here because I'd ban everyone for being idiots. Including myself. So there.

You know, a few pages back, when the "One More PIECE OF CRAP" idea was popular, I was inspired to write a small part of the worst Spidey story ever...

Which you may observe here:

One More Piece of Crap
The worst Spider-Man story you’ll ever read

[The lights go up and Mary Jane is sitting at home shoveling mouthfuls of Rocky Road Ice Cream into her mouth, very messily, I might add. It’s all over her clothing and the furniture. She’s watching Animal Planet. Peter enters stage left.]

PETER:
Honey! I’m ho-ooo-me!

MJ:
Stuff it, I’m watching the cute little animals.

PETER:
[chuckles] Again? You love that channel, don’t you.

MJ:
Shut up.

PETER:
I love you, my sniggley pie.

MJ:
I want pie.

PETER:
[chuckles] That’s my girl!

[Audience laugher.]

MJ:
Not your girl, you mook.

PETER:
[chuckles]

MJ:
Stop chuckling.

PETER:
[chuckles] Whatever you say, dear.

MJ:
The hospital called about the old woman.

PETER:
Oh?

MJ:
Yeah. She’s gonna kick the bucket.

[Audience laughter]

PETER:
[squeal] Hooray! Honey, do you know what this means?!

MJ:
Funeral, lawyers, and an undertaker? Oh, and headaches. Don’t forget headaches.

PETER:
No, pumpkin. Inheritance money!!

MJ:
Money means…

PETER:
Additions to my Princess Polly collection, which I worship day and night?

MJ:
No, you idiot. Ice cream and cute little furry animals!

PETER:
[chuckles] As long as they’re on your side of the bed, dear.

[Audience laughter]

MJ:
So, wanna bet on how long the old woman will last?

PETER:
Not tonight, dear. I’ve gotta pay my gambling bills from last week still!

[Audience laughter]

[Peter sits down beside MJ.]

PETER:
So you gonna share the ice cream or not?

MJ:
[snarl] Nevah!!
PETER:
[chuckles] That’s my pumpkin!

[Audience laughter]

[The minutes pass, MJ stuffs her face, Peter gets told to stuff it. And all is quiet. Until…]

[CRASH!]

PETER:
Holy Hollerin’ Hoopers, Batman!

MJ:
What is it?!

PETER:
Batman!

MJ:
Who?

PETER:
Batman!

MJ:
Peter, that’s Tony Stark crashing into our window in a drunken stupor wearing nothing but a pair of boxers that say “This is why I’m hot.”

PETER:
Batman!

[Audience laughter]

MJ:
Tony, what are you doing here?

TONY:
[burp] I’m here to….

[Lights go dim, And an announcer says, “Join us next week to find out what nearly nude Tony Stark wants with our two fabulous lovers! Don’t miss it, True Believer!”]

I hope One More Day doesn't steal any ideas...:(

What issue is that?
The stewardess scene is from ASM 493 (Digger Arc). That issue and the next had some great Peter/MJ scenes... I recently posted more over on the "Favorite Peter MJ moments" thread. (That thread has been a really nice read lately! :yay: )

Those covers are sweet. I'll definitely be buying. So it's going to be a Pete and MJ story? Love is cool.

The Covers look great!. I will be buying these Issues!. And I'm excited about the Peter and MJ story!.

THIS kind of Peter and Mary Jane story we probably can do without... that is, if if ends up splitting them up.

Too bad... after all the ignorant, negative, arrogant comments being made about the marriage, I don't trust JQ. A story in which Mary Jane "forgets" she is married to Peter, but is still drawn to him, and we wonder will they ever come together again... HAS possibilities... Might be pins and needles exciting for a FEW issues. But NOT for these folks to write. They have treatened too many times to split them up that I wouldn't enjoy a story like that from them... I'd be too pissed, immediatly drop the book in protest.

I don't really like the idea of MJ forgetting She is married to Peter. I mean why have Her forget? It will just mess up the whole relationship. Like I said a few weeks ago, the Spidey Comics aren't what they once were. I mean "Back in Black" is a great storyline but One More Day sounds a little odd with the whole "MJ forgetting She is Married to Peter". We would have to see them dating again just so that they could get married because MJ forgot that She was married to Peter....I just don't find that as a good idea now that I thought about it some more.

Mary Jane Watson as skrull, if JOEY Q does this?! HE"S A MORON!!!

Hmmm... I may be missing something obvious and if so I'm sure I'll get corrected! ;)
I can't see a mindwipe happening on MJ. I mean if they do it, it would have to be across the entire Marvel universe and it would have to involve people's knowledge that Peter is Spider-Man since everything is linked now. This event would have to be in ALL the books across the Marvel U. You'd almost need to do a crisis type storyline.
MJ was somewhat famous before Peter revealed his ID and now she's even more well known, I can't see how they could have something that would effect that many people but only happen in the Spider books, you're going to have so much information out there, newspaper articles, TV stories, magazine stuff. They even did that tabloid story thing with MJ and Tony Stark before the reveal so she was well known before everyone knew Peter was Spider-Man, who in the Marvel U wouldn't know who she is now and that she's married to Peter\Spider-Man?
So how can they wipe out that knowledge from all those people, erase all the information in magazines, newspapers, on the internet, etc. etc. without some sort of a huge storyline running across the entire Marvel Universe? If they go that route, it's got to be a HUGE storyline... right? What am I missing? LOL

^ They did it in Flash, without having a big DC event....so, it'd be easy...just show a few panels and have DR Strange say...."There, no one will remember your secret identity anymore"...>poof<.....everything else in the marvel world would be the same...jsut people wouldn't know who spidey is...back like before...

Hi mate, it's been a while :cwink:

Shockingly, JMS seems to be the only guys for donkey's that manages to do the marriage well, realistic, loving, and, (bizaarly enough as it ain't his forte,) quite sexy.

Don't forget, like a lot of writers, he needs decent guidance by his editor sometimes. And let's not forget, stuff like Gwen-****, Goblin babies, and MJ lying to Pete for their entire relationship, was an EDITORIAL decision. NOT JMS.

I find it SO baffling that JMS has managed to do SO SUCH for Marvel, and the comic industry. I mean, he's awesome at finding good new talent and sticking 'em on the right books.

But he finds it IMPOSSIBLE to admit that he can't head the direction of Spider-Man. Even his right hand man Bendis argues with him about the Pete/MJ marriage and JMS doesn't listen.

Although, there's a large part of me that thinks that JQ has been doing this a lot to inly wind up fans and get people talking. Let's not forget, HE chose to bring MJ back in the 1st place.

I dunno, if you guys know anything about his childhood, but I really feel like that sometimes he let's his own exposure to marriage influence his editorial decsicions of the marriages in Marvel. A little extreme I know, and I don't want t trivialise his childhood, but I can't help think it...

They did it with the Sentry too... everyone forgot who he was and the writings about him were chalked up to a work of fiction (comics). Reed was involved with that one.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right but that is just really lazy writing. There are so many loose ends, so many details that would be left, things that wouldn't or I should say SHOULDN'T go away easily without causing all sorts of chain reactions and screwing up other things. But yeah, but now that Captivated brings it up about the Sentry I remember all that too. This is not going to be pretty.

Sigh. Another scene that makes Spider-man look like a dork. I hate JMS run so much.

^Hmn...i don't see where that scene makes spidey look like a dork at all.
That's what makes him cool.

He's not Wolverine.

The last thing he saids is so dorky, I want to beat him up. This is coming from an internet nerd.
Though I find it odd that you think Spider-man being a dork makes him cool even though he never usually acted that way before. Yeah, he's not Wolverine, but he's the sarcastic semi-egotistical Spider-man.

I just don't see it as him acting like a DORK there at all,...i see it as a guy who wants to be faithful to his wife, and moral (which Pete is). THAT'S what makes Pete cool. In this scene, Pete is (in a funny over the top way) protecting himself so that he won't do something he'd regret, or no longer be bugged by this trampy type girl being paid to act that way, who is not his type to begin with. That scene makes me applaud him, and chuckle, but that's just my opinion.

How would you've personally liked him to react there??
