It wasn't all about Joe. There are plenty of us out here who think (and have for a long time, myself, well before JQ came on board) that he is absolutely right in how he viewed the marriage in the context of telling these stories.

This is whats so frustrating.

I've cancelled. A number of other guys that cancelled. But we need ALOT more cancellers before Joe Q gets the message, and I don't think it's happening.

Alot of long time fans that are as unhappy with OMD as I am and think the retcons are lazy bull**** are still buying BND. Some out of the misplaced hope that it's only temporary. Others because of the temptation of reading Slott.

I wish I could give these guys a shake.

Number 1: Joe Q has no intention of the changes being temporary. And he will ONLY realize the whole thing is a mistake if the sales drop. BND sold out, but half the guys that bought it hate OMD. It's not right. So my advise is to cancel. And if Joe Q rights the wrongs in the future, you can buy BND in TPB form.

Number 2: Slott or no Slott, the changes to continuity still make no sense and we'll never get half satisfying answers to half the questions brought up by the changes. Like, if May's house never burned down, did Peter ever move into Avengers tower? How the **** did Civil War play out? What did Peter do in the meantime if the past is different? Bringing Harry back is unacceptable. Taking away decades of character progression and story is unacceptable.

The only way to send the message is to cancel, cancel, CANCEL!

Stop buying if you're unhappy!

I saw this train wreck coming and got off the tracks before OMD struck. I think it's tragic others didn't. :(

But WHY are people perpetuating this travesty?! Let's say 90% of readers HATED OMD... but only 20% actually dropped the title. I think people keep buying (and thereby encouraging) bad stories that make terrible CORE changes because they

  • are ADDICTED, plain and simple.
  • are in denial about how truly BAD it is.
  • haven't read Quesadas comments and think that the marriage and continuity will be restored at the end of this "event."
  • are easily distracted by superficial gimmicks (schedule, teams, etc.).
  • don't "get" how bad it is because they really don't like to think that hard.
  • don't care about continuity because they don't KNOW what came before;
  • can't bear to have a hole in their collection.
  • don't actually read comics and just collect first issues.

:whatever:

Joking aside...

BUYING into an event that DESTROYS so MUCH... I think is almost as BAD as what Quesada just did. You are becoming a accessory to a CRIME. YOU are helping to RUIN the character that you claim to care about. Plain and simple.

:(

And Blader, keep at it if you feel strongly about it. I know you're the shill-du-jour (people actually think it's an insult to accuse someone of working for marvel  ), but I kept my mouth shut during the clone saga, and all the whiny little Mary's got their way.

As per surprises, Joe has told us about his agenda for years.

Joe has told us that he planned all these other stories to get us to this place he wanted.

So, it didn't matter how the characters would really act in these situations, or about their continuity, or what the fans wanted. IT was all about Joe, and joe admits this.
Exactly. THAT is why I have nothing but utter contempt for the man.

Question: What do you think would happen if someone in the current Marvel Univ. grabs a copy of the daily bugle from back when peter unmasked? How do you think it could be explained in the comic?

Really, come one, try to come up with something :)

They would be secreted away by Mephisto's minions, and beat with little worms that slowly and painfully extract memories. Then returned with no knowledge of either event. Rinse. Repeat.

Well, Mephisto said that "all evidence" of the marriage and unmasking would disappear, so i'm assuming that means that there were never any daily bugle articles printed about the unmasking. Either that or all the evidence just disappeared along with people's memory of it.

That's what I'm thinking--same thing as the Sentry, which the BND team has referred to several times.

It WAS all about Joe.

He didn't once talk about the FEW fans that would love a devil dealing, continuity changed alternate spider-man.

He said many quotes all about HIM. THat he couldn't sleep at night, that the marriage bothered HIM. There were hundreds of them. (quotes)

In fact, he said he DIDN"T CARE if the FANS didn't like what HE would DO to spidey comics.

It WAS about Joe. Unless you want to negate the tracks of Joe's own words.

He even contradicted himself, saying certain changes were for good, (tho we knew he's all hype) and then he says he had all these (bad) stories planned to get to this point. THat it was the agenda all along.

So, it is an ultimate slap to the face of all RECENT people (let alone PAST continuity farther back) who worked on all those spidey stories and other events(tho some of them were not good) BUT JOE WANTED THEM THAT WAY TO GET TO HERE. THAT IS WHAT HE SAID. HE KNEW HE WAS GONNA ERASE IT ALL WITH MAGIC AND DEVILS.

The characters have been moved around like PAWNS, ADMITTEDLY, to get to what Joe WANTED. Who cares what the character motivations actually would have been in these situations. It didn't matter.

Makes sense, if he did said all evidence would dissapear... But Quesada, or someone in the creative staff said that the unmasking did happen, is just that people don't remember who was Spidey...
Imagine in the real world how people would freak out if they remember that JFK was shot, and the guy was trapped and killed, but no one were able to remember who he was, his name, and all phisical evidence of his identity were erased :wow:

It wasn't.

First of all, show me where he says he doesn't care if the fans didn't like it. Somehow, I'm willing to bet that it was worded much, much differently.

Second, how else is he supposed to put it other than in his own words. How many screamin' Mimis do I hear saying that the rest of us don't understand how utterly devastating this is if we were never married? Isn't that making it all about them?

You know, I wonder what Stan Lee's reaction to all this has been? He's been very quiet throughout all of this hasn't he? Does he even care?

And Blader, keep at it if you feel strongly about it. I know you're the shill-du-jour (people actually think it's an insult to accuse someone of working for marvel  ), but I kept my mouth shut during the clone saga, and all the whiny little Mary's got their way.

Hey, I'll be the first to say that I have no problem with people disliking the marriage. I disagree with you, but when it all comes down to it, it's just opinion. I grew up with the marriage, so I've never had an issue with it. I can see why others would.

Now, one thing I can't see is how anyone could justify OMD. It was just a bad story, plain and simple. If you really want to do away with the marriage, at least have the decency to tell it in a good, if not adequate story that doesn't hurt the character of Peter.

I mean, at least the Clone Saga had an interesting idea, OMD just felt contrived.

but wasn't Joe Q who said that he needed 616 Peter single so he could tell stories about him having sex and downloading porn? Cause Ultimate Peter couldn't do those... So a married Peter couldn't have sex? What's MJ chopped liver? Downloading porn... I didn't know that the internet blocked porn sites if you were married...

I think he was joking.

It's official, my avy is no joke...I quit Spider-Man. It's over.

You're not an over zealous Slott fan that would drink spollied milk if poured by him???

Wow.
