One More Day Discussion Thread

I'm just not a fan of doing away with past events although I wish they would have done it with the Clone saga. But an event to bring Harry back and also set up a 'crisis' type event spells nothing but trouble for Marvel. I like Aunt May but what's so bad with her biting the dust albeit I wouldn't like for her to be murdered but this is the type of thing that motivates and defines who Peter is. The death of his uncle motivated him to be Spiderman and defined what he stood for. The death of Aunt May (for good) would have effected him far greater and that needed to be explored and maybe the outcome would have lead to MJ leaving Peter but Joe just did away w/ the marriage altogether just to give Straczynski the opportunity to give Parker one final super deluxe...wait for it...SCREWJOB!

I'll count for the other 'few' which won't be buying BND, regardless of whose working on it. OMD is an awful, awful idea, and instead of arriving in a 'new era' of Peter's history, we're just retracing our steps back to the seventies...

OMD was terrible... I'm not going to argue that point.

However, we're just "assuming" at this point that Spidey will simply be a rehashed 70's version of himself...

I have no idea what to expect, but I have high expectations from Slott that it will be good.

:yay:

Why don't YOU just SHUT THE F^%#^%#CK UP?!?!?!

We've all heard your rants about OMD and how Dan Slott was a part of of the picture.

And you can stop buying Spider-Man and Marvel comics from hereonin. I really don't care.

But a LOT of us "fanboys" are generally excited about Slott's arrival on ASM, and I'm pretty sick and tired of listening to little weiner crybabies like yourself go on and on and on...

Do us all a favour and complain to your blow up doll... because we're all tired of it AND your put-downs to anybody that says they will buy BND.

If I buy BND, that doesn't make you the "better" comic book reader nor does it put me in that status... so I'd appreciate you stopping with putting those of us who may actually be excited about this new era in Spider-Man's history.

Thank you for your time.

Mike

Slott's work will likely be good, at least within the confines of this 'new' reality he has to work with. His usual embrace of continuity is gonna be tested somewhat though, since no-one knows just how the last 2 decades of stories are supposed to have worked without the marriage.

Long term though I don't think he has enough clout to offer any real change to the books beyond what the almighty Quesada orders. Hell, if JMS couldnt stop Quesada's long standing goal of erasing the marriage (I think JMS even wanted his name removed from the credits for the last 2 issues of OMD?) I cant see Slott being able to return it.

That being said Quesada might just be playing the fans big time (wouldn't be a first) and the marriage's return is as inevitable as is Steve Rogers.

Whatever the case, what is certain to me is that the past marriage can't just be left as forgotten: The deal with Mephisto will be addressed again (if only to reveal what MJ offered him for the identity reversal) and we'll just have to see what they do with it from there.

It's not so much the marriage being broken up that gets to me. I mean, I hate it as much as the next guy, but the return of Peter living with May, and Harry being back from the dead just reeks of garbage.

Someone quoted Quesada earlier in the thread regrading the possibility of an Ultimate/616 crossover (which is inevitable) with this: "I think the day we do that is the day that we've run out of ideas".

Well, no. Resetting Spider-Man (in a quite shockingly poor manner, it has to be said) back to a variant of his early 80's status quo is that day.

Really, if this re-set does stick (and I'm not convinced that is the long term intent btw) then anything that comes now will be nothing new, not really. Just the same stories we read decades ago with new window dressing.

They ought to just reprint the old Lee/Romita issues with updated coloring and save everyone the time and effort.

Is this part confirmed somewhere? If so, are we suppose to buy our Spider-hero can't even get an apartment on his own at the age of 25+? Talk about stunting a character's development.

^it's in the story. have you read it yet?

I don't buy Marvel books until Joe Q is gone. I'm a disgruntled Iron Man fan who votes with his wallet. Looks like I'll have some Spidey fans who can keep me company.

Yeah, Tony was better when he was a drunk.

^At least in those stories he wasn't a full on villain. Just a very flawed hero.

I really hate it when people post crap like this. Going by your logic, people can unleash the stupidest rants imaginable, and nobody can say otherwise because they'd be accused of "*****ing about *****ing."

Iron Man is one of the more interesting characters in the MU right now, especially now that people have learned how to write him as a "very flawed hero" instead of the bastard most writers made him out to be during Civil War.

I re-read OMD again judging from MJ's look at the party...she remembers everything. I could work with that but the fact that Peter still lives w/ his aunt and rides a bicycle is killing me. And the sinister look in Harry's eye gives me the funny suspicion that Marvel is trying to "menace" Peter w/ a goblin knock-off! Hope Slott fix all these errors in continuity.

I think if Brand New Day starts with Pete waking up from a nightmare to then go down to the hospital to visit Aunt May... there might be some hope for the future of Spidey.
