i hear what your saying but based on this story we now know that apparently MJ is selfless and loyal to the man she loves and peter is pretty selfish.....let the lady die even she's gotta be tired of getting attacked and all the life drama all the time...i mean come on shot...buried alive...losing her husband...etc etc etc...enough is enough

She didn't actually take a bullet for him. More like he instinctively moved out the way and it hit her. Regardless of that, everybody knows the famous line:"With great power comes great responsibilty", and every comic reader knows Peter and MJ have been happily married for years. With that general knowledge in mind, you really think Peter would make a deal with the devil to save his aunt in exchange for divorcing his wife?

I don't follow Superman comics at all, but I know this situation would never happen between him and Lois just from the general knowledge that is common with him.

Reconning a character almost never works because it's done in a hasty patchwork fashion. It would be much easier to think up the ten or so examples of this done well than the hundreds done in a crappy manner. You know this. DC and Marvel are both horrible at this. Marvel might have just won the all time crappiest competition with the raping joey Q gave to pete, but I remember not too long ago a certian superboy punching holes in reality.
