......is if they now completely ignore the Tom Jane film and make something completely different that has no ties to it. IMO, if they are doing a sequel to the Tom Jane movie, then they NEED Tom in the role, no if's or but's from me.

BUT, with Ray being cast, i hope they go in a different direction, and sever all ties to the Tom Jane movie.

I'd have to agree. And this Punisher flick better take place in New York, complete with the Italian and Irish mafias, the Castle family's death in Central Park and most importantly, JIGSAW.

I think that's what they're going to do. Unless they're going to establish that this sequel takes place a good decade after the first film, how else can you explain the age difference between Jane and Stevenson?

Sounds like they're approaching this the way Marvel is approaching "Hulk."

I hope thats the case too.

It's going to be a sequel.
It wouldn't make any sense for it to be a full reboot.
Why would Lionsgate want to do that, and why would there be a reboot when the predecessor came out less than 5 years ago?

I vote for reboot too - why not? Hulk is getting rebooted. And while we're at it, let's reboot Daredevil too.

Hulk is not getting rebooted, it's still a sequel, the events of the first movie still took place, it's just going in a totally different direction than the first one did (new cast, director, writer, etc.)

I don't want it to be called P2.

If it's gonna be a sequel, then it should be a very distant sequel.

I say go with "The Punisher: War Zone."

No connections to the previous film except for the skull design.

Adapt "Circle of Blood" and set up the next film at the end, like "Casino Royale."

Instant gold.

I doubt they're going to go to great lengths to tie it to the first one. It's like Hensleigh said before, LGF didn't have anything to do with making the original one... they just picked up the rights to it when Artisan was pretty much done making it. Other than the fact that it's a Marvel character and some of their staff will be involved, nobody behind the camera (or in front, obviously) had anything to do with the last one.

There's no reason to go out of their way to crap on the last one, but hopefully they won't mention the Tampa/FBI/Howard Saint elements of the origin. Especially without Thomas Jane, who even wants to remember the last one?

That would be grand.

Especially with a revised and acurate flashback to his familys death in central park.

I think it might actually be interesting if they try out a new skull design on the t-shirt. For some reason I can't really picture Ray Stevenson in the t-shirt from the first movie.

^^^Now that you say it, I agree. And though I like the design, it would be better to use a new symbol for a new take.

Maybe the MAX symbol or the Jim Lee or Romita Jr symbols? Always loved those.

well this will be my last post on the Punisher sequel, I could care less about it and nothing short of a miracle is going to make me see it. Lionsgate is not interested in making a good movie...this is the company that is doing a SAW 4! Thomas Jane tried like hell to get a decent movie made and finally gave up and moved on and I don't blame him. I do not think Ray fits the part seem over all too sad, not rage filled IMO. He seems to be an okay actor so while I do not think he is right for the part or will be as good as Jane I do not think he will be the problem. I think the problem is going to be another small budgeted rushed production with a script that has been rewritten a dozen times in the last 3.5 years. The only reason Lionsgate is bothering with this film is to hold onto a franchise since most comic book films make money. I have a feeling they feel they less they spend on it the more chance of turning a profit they have. Due to bad release timing (went head to head with Kill bill Opening weekend) and mixed reviews ( Critics suck) and the fact the character is not well know outside of comics, and the film was rated R, it did not perform well at the box office barely breaking even. It made $60 million on DVD though so they won't give a damn if it does nothing at the box office and will be looking forward to the dvd sales. I can't think of a decent movie that Lionsgate has made. Hopefully one day the rights to The punisher will go back to Marvel and a good Punisher film will be made.

^^^Blah blippity blah. You don't have a ****ing crystal ball, you have no idea how this movie is going to turn out.

The Lee skull would be pretty sick, I never really dug the one they used in the first movie.

Yay, people talking about the possibility of a new skull logo.

They have to give him a new one. Look at the man, he looks easily 20 years older than Jane to me. They have to give it that distance, its not like the one t-shirt would last that long with out being destroyed.

I'm not sure which logo I want him to have on his chest. The different style normally gave to a different style Punisher. As long as they stay as far away as possible from the pathetic "Ultimate" style Punisher I saw in a few comics, it should be ok. The look wasn't completely awful, but his actions were.

 Exactly, they need to distance themselves from the first one in every way possible IMO. Otherwise it will look like a really cheap sequel which no one will want to see IMO.

This is Tom O'Brien, Bradstreet's model for his Punisher work:

I think Stevenson resembles this version of Frank, and I think that's the direction the film's going to go in.

I also think they should just go with the Bradstreet skull, which is pretty different from the "Jane" skull.

By the way, if you guys want to order an 8 X 10 of that pic above, you can do so here for only ten bucks. Not a bad deal.

Yeah something closer to the comic would be welcome, even though the first one was quite accurate itself.
