"So Ice Boy knocked my helmet off, huh?"
"Obviously."
"You had it planned the whole time, didn't you?"
"Yes."
I sigh, and stand up. I finally notice we're in a grassy field with a few trees, and that I'm my normal self, with no Cyttorak power. "And we're in your head."
"No, we are in our head."
"How about you get out of our head and let my have mine back? Then we can finish this like real men."
"Now Cain, you WILL stop this. I have releaved you or your motor functions in the real world. I know you have many misconceptions of what happened between us, but whatever issues we may have they are between US, there is no need for the children to suffer. Now we will discuss this like gentlemen, not mindless brutes. I do not want this day to last in the children's memory as typical, or an ordinary occourance, for it should not and will not be such. We will end this today, lest I decide to change my moral beliefs and remove all memory of our interaction from you mind........ Whatever you believe, that does not give you the right to indanger these young lives, or destroy the only place they have to call home. Your selfish desire could have put many of these children on the street, to be not only cold and hungry, but hated an feared. Your problem, Cain, is that you do not think past yourself, you do not consider the reprecusions of your actions on others lives. It would be simple enough for me to write you off as a sociopath, but if that were true....why would you have saved so many during the Darksied invasion? Hmm? Why would you save those innocents on the streets, and fight a tyranical leader who is possibly the only being more powerfull than you in terms of brute strength? You can not deny that deep inside of you there is a soul, and in that soul a longing to do good for others.....What do you have to say for youself....brother?"
I listen carefully to my brother's words and take a moment to thin about what he said. "Y'know, you left one thing out, Charles."
"And what is that?" he asks.
"You didn't tell me why the hell I should care." Charles sighs as I say it. "Why should I care about you 'children'? They don't mean anything to me. Hell, they're mutants anyway, just like you. You're the real monster, dear brother. You put those kid's lives in danger, not me. This was between you and me. And you're damn right I only think about myself. That's how you survive in this world, by looking out for number one! And who do you think I learned that from? You, 'dear' brother. You!"
Xavier is shocked by what I say. "Me? Since when did I ever teach you such a thing?"
"Oh, please. Ever since dad married you mom and you came into the familiy. Don't you even remeber, or were you to blind to see it? I was better then you Charles, always was. Faster, stronger, smarter. But did anyone care? No. Because they were always on about you. You made sure everyone was focused on you. Used you mind powers to keep them interested in you and ignoring me."
"I did no such thing."
"Right, Charles. Sure you didn't. No matter what I did, I got in trouble and you came out like an angel."
"You tortured me as a child!" Charles says, anger plain in his voice.
"Damn right I did. Someone had to keep you in your place. You were the younger brother. You weren't even my real brother. And you were a mutant. Ain't no mutant better then me then or now. Hell, the only attention I got from my own father was when I helped him in his lab, and even then he could only call me a screw up."
"Cain, he ignored us all. You, me, and our mother. He was obsessed with that labwork of his, and that lonliness is what helped kill her. What right do you have to be more angry then me about that? His obsession is what killed him. The lab fire consumed him because he refused to leave his work behind, refused to help the two of us get out."
"Charles, you just don't understand. Who do you think started that fire?"
My brother's eyes grow wide with horror. "God, Cain. No. You...murdered him?!?"
I shake my head. "No, that was an accident. I set that fire to destroy the lab. Then he'd have no choice but spend time with us. To be the father we never had. But the damned fool wouldn't leave. Had to save his precious files while we almost burned to death. And the only reason we made it out was because I pulled us both out of the fire. I still don't know why I saved you. But him...even after all these years, I don't regret what I did. I'm glad he's dead."
"Cain, you don't mean it."
"Yes! Yes I do!!!" The world erupts around us and when I open my eyes, Charles and I are still in the computer room. He's sitting next to the passed out ice boy, and I can move again.
"Cain..." there are almost tears in his eys.
"No regrets, Charles."
"Obviously."
