Switching the plane to autopilot, Scott spun his chair around to face everyone.

"Should be arriving at the next mutant's location in five minutes."

Scott flicked a switch on the side panel, and a holographic projection came down from the ceiling and the shoulder and head of a young blond man appeared.

"His name is Ray Terrill, eighteen year old citizen of Maine. His father died last week of cancer. Up until his death, he and his wife had been keeping Ray's mutant powers under wraps."

"But, after his father passed away, Ray had...an outburst. He destroyed an entire hospital room in an explosion of light."

"And there's no input on the Madrox/Kinney/Jubilee love triangle? We're real, engaging people. These are serious issues. This is my life! **** you all,"

The Devil Hulk came crashing down into the forest with the force of an atomic blast. The shockwave shatters trees and rock, and for miles around the massive crater where the Devil Hulk now rests, is barren landscape.

Superman flies slowly up to the crater, remaining on guard as he eyes it, looking for the creature.
Then he sees it, groaning as it lay very still.

"Finally", the Man of Steel exhales in relief.
"Looks like you did it, Tony."

The Devil Hulk slowly began to stir, twitching his muscles ever-so-slightly.

"You have got to be kidding me..."

Before Superman could move in, crimson bands wrapped themselves around the beast, binding it tightly.

Superman looked behind him to see the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Fate, floating in the air behind him.

Fate-11.jpg

"Fate? What are you doing here?"

"I have monitored the situation, and I am here to help", Fate replied.

"This monster you fight is indeed the Hulk, but something is wrong. He has the stench of dark magic upon him."

"Are you saying somebody did this to him? Turned him that thing?"

"Yes", Fate stated, "only a being of vast magical power could induce such a demonic change. I have my theories of the culprit's identity, but that can wait. Now we must save Bruce Banner."

"Bruce Banner?"

"Yes, the man behind the Hulk."

Fate recited an incantation, his hands held wide. An ankh of golden fire appeared behind him, as his hands became surrounded by a green energy. Fate continued his chant as the green energy lashed out and enveloped the Devil Hulk, and began to seep the black magic from his being. The dark power flowed from out of the Devil Hulk, through Fate, and into the burning Ankh behind him.
As the evil slowly left the Hulk's body, he began to revert slowly back into his normal self. As the final wisps of energy left his body, the Green Goliath's eyes slowly opened, and the Hulk rose groggily to his feet.

The Hulk climbed out of the crater and fell to his hands and knees.

"Hulk...tired..."

The Hulk's body slowly seemed to dissolve away, reverting painfully back into a half-naked Bruce Banner.
Banner collapsed face first into the ground, and then slowly rolled over to his back.

"Uggghh...so...what did I miss?"

"There goes a few billion bucks."

Tony and the Hulk were gone in a second. They were just a dot in the sky before disappearing completely. But we all keep looking. I think Superman and his cousin actually see them.

A few seconds later, two dots appear. In a few more seconds, I can see the one is green, and the other gold and red.

"Tony! You all go after the Hulk, I'll get Tony!" I yell as I start to run. NotgoodNotgoodNotgood...

It's been a long time since I played football. And I never tried to catch one that weighed a few tons from seventy miles up before. Guess there's a first time for everything.

I keep Tony's form above me as I chase it down, and when I think I'm in the right place, I stop and point my hands to the sky. I spin them in circles faster and faster. The air starts to whip from behind me, sand stinging as it blows by. But I keep it up, moving my arms faster until twin vortexes whip to the sky and reach out, slowing Tony's fall.

But he keeps falling.

Right at me.

"Come on...Come on..." I grit my teeth, and he slows more, but still falls.

"Would you stop falling already!!!"

And he does...about three feet above my head.

I slip out of the way and let the large armor fall the rest of the way.

"Tony?"

I step up to it. It's totally shredded in places. I look inside.

"Tony?"

Empty.

"Oh...that can't be good, can it?"

"Jesus ****ing Christ!"

"That's not good."

"Hera..."

"Go! Go! Go!"
"That's quite enough," the Vision said, standing up and regarding his fellow Avengers with lifeless eyes "Hawkeye, you can cut the call to Miss Waller. This is a field operation. Green Lantern, please lower us to the ground. I believe this needs a more human touch,"

The synthetic man stepped through the wall of the Quinjet and hovered in the air overlooking the Khandaqi mob. He raised his hands.

"Friends, be reasonable," he said, his voice amplified to carry the distance between the mob and the Quinjet. He noted a worrying number of sharp items in the crowd . "We are here for diplomatic purposes and we mean you no harm,"

As he said that, an arrow came hurtling past his head, hitting one of the lead Khandaqi men in the jugular. Vision span around to see Hawkeye braced against the door, using it as cover.

"Get back in here you crazy robot bastard," he shouted as a green wall erected itself between the two forces "Before I come out there and get you myself,"

"You didn't have to kill him," Vision stated, wincing as projectiles passed through him before he reached the other side of the barrier.

"It was me or them," Barton said, slightly too happily for Vision's taste.

"At least you tried," Diana said soothingly. Barton grinned.

"Yeah yeah, we're beating ourselves up inside. Now can I kill some of these sons of *****es?"

"Hey Rhodey, how you holding up? I'm kinda in the middle of something right now..."

"Oh you are huh? Well you just made me into some sort of Robocop type piece of tech and I'm kinda punting for some answers. Hell, I'm half expecting a slice of toast to pop out of the ******* of this thing you've hooked me up to".

It took Rhodey a second or two to realise the panic and urgency in Tonys voice. From an experienced soldiers point of view it sounded like trouble.

"Tony? where are you? Are you alright?" He asked, his curiosity rising.

"I'm trying to help the Justice League take down some monstrous version of The Hulk. Sure, never been better!"

I check myself. Rhodey's been through a lot, the last thing he needs is my sarcasm.

"Look, Rhodey, I'm sorry I'm not there with you right now. I wanted to be there, but this came up. I'll be with you as soon as I can."

I slow my descent as I approach the crash site.

"Tony?"

I step up to it. It's totally shredded in places. I look inside.

"Tony?"

Empty.

"Oh...that can't be good, can it?"

"Don't sound so disappointed that I'm not splattered inside there, Jay."

I land next to The Flash.

"I made a quick getaway. Flying up that high frazzled my Hulkbuster armor. Let's hope it was enough to get the job done."

The Devil Hulk came crashing down into the forest with the force of an atomic blast. The shockwave shatters trees and rock, and for miles around the massive crater where the Devil Hulk now rests, is barren landscape.

"Fate? What are you doing here?"

"I have monitored the situation, and I am here to help", Fate replied.

"This monster you fight is indeed the Hulk, but something is wrong. He has the stench of dark magic upon him."

"Are you saying somebody did this to him? Turned him that thing?"

The Hulk's body slowly seemed to dissolve away, reverting painfully back into a half-naked Bruce Banner.
Banner collapsed face first into the ground, and then slowly rolled over to his back.

"Uggghh...so...what did I miss?"

"I honestly don't know where to start."

"Huh?"

Damn, forgot I still had Rhodey on the line.

"Not you, Rhodey."

"Who's Rhodey?" Jay asks.

"My imaginary friend."

"Don't sound so disappointed that I'm not splattered inside there, Jay."

I land next to The Flash.

"I made a quick getaway. Flying up that high frazzled my Hulkbuster armor. Let's hope it was enough to get the job done."

"Heh. Not quite disappointment I was feeling there, Tony. More like wet your pants terror."

We rush over to rejoin the others as an old friend, or who I thought was an old friend, finally brings down the Hulk, releasing the man trapped inside.

"I honestly don't know where to start."

"Huh?"

Damn, forgot I still had Rhodey on the line.

"Not you, Rhodey."

"Who's Rhodey?" Jay asks.

"My imaginary friend."

Imaginary friend? "Odd, I don't smell any alcohol. You haven't been dipping into the vodka, have you?" I
say with humor, and only a tinge of concern.

Bruce Banner slowly sat up, wincing as he did so. His entire body felt like it had been through the ringer. Every muscle ached and every joint felt stiff. He wanted nothing more than to lie down and sleep for a good six or seven days.

Looking around the massive impact crater of the Devil Hulk's crashing back down to the Earth, Banner hung his head in guilt.

"I did this, didn't I?"

"It was not you, my friend."

"Fate", Banner speaks as he looks at the Sorcerer Supreme.
"What are you talking about? It was the Hulk, that much is clear. And if he caused this destruction, I'm just as guilty."

"It was not the normal Hulk that you turned in to", Fate stated.
"That Hulk is fueled by rage, but is not truly evil. The thing you became...it was pure and utter hatred personified. It was like a demonic thing, a Devil Hulk."

"What do you mean, 'Devil Hulk'? What exactly happened here?"

Healing factor?

Figures.

"Now, now play nice you two," I say as I web up the second merc's wrist mounted guns. While he's distracted trying to get it off, I deliver a spinning roundhouse kick to his face, sending him sprawling.

I sense Deadpool getting up behind me, and I sling two weblines behind me, and pull hard. Deadpool's body flies over my head, and crashes with a sickening thud into the other merc.

I need to end this fairly quickly. The other merc has barely missed me multiple times, and Deadpool's healing factor will allow him to outlast even my superhuman stamina.

"Now, boys, is this fighting really necessary? Can't all us costumed weirdos get along?"
• DEADPOOL •

Wade Wilson's eyes squinted behind his torn mask, and he surged into action. Without a quip, without a pun, without breaking the fourth wall, he slams his elbow backwards, driving hard into Spider-Man's nose. Without stopping, he slipped downwards, crouching beneath the grasp of either the hero or the other mercenary. He spun, slamming his booted foot into Deadshot's leg. Now facing Spider-Man, Deadpool's hand snapped his hand forward, wrapped it around the webbed wonder's ankle. He heaved the foot towards his body, and released it quickly, sending Spider-Man sprawling into a wall.

FMAB!

Deadpool vanished into thin air in a puff of red gas.

FMAB!
FMAB!
FMAB!

He reappeared first in front of Spider-Man, who was trying to get to his feet, then behind him, then next to him, driving his elbow, once again, into the side of Spider-Man's head.

Deadshot pulled himself to his feet quickly and withdrew a pistol, firing a single shot at Deadpool's head.

FMAB!

The bullet tore through the gas left when Deadpool vanished.

FMAB!

"Amateurs." He said, reappearing and sending a boot into Spider-Man's jaw as the arachnid tried to stand.

"Imaginary friend my ass. And who'se Jay?"

Nothing was ever simple where Stark was concerned.

• DEADPOOL •

FMAB!

"Amateurs." He said, reappearing and sending a boot into Spider-Man's jaw as the arachnid tried to stand.

"Hyperactive ******." Deadshot grunted, appearing behind Wade. With one hand he gripped Deadpool's throat and with the other brought a small dagger down into the mouthy merc´s shoulder.

Deadpool staggered slightly, and Deadshot took advantage by planting his foot behind Wade's, tripping him. Wilson slammed down on the rooftop and a mere moment later, Deadshot shot his competition twice in the head.

"Well, that should take care of him." Floyd sighed, enjoying the particularly rewarding sight of Deadpool's brains on the ground, as he turned to Spider-Man. "You are just the prettiest girl at the dance, ain't ya." Lawton smiled, taking aim at the arachnid. "Hate to break it to ya, kid, but prom is over."

I watch as Jay and Tony arrive and Banner and Fate discuss some Devil Hulk thing, while I just stand there looking blank, trying to understand what Fate's on about, before I feel something vibrate next to me. In a blur I pull out my Avenger's communicator as it buzzes madly in my hand. I play the message, listening carefully to the instructions.

"Attention Avengers. This is Giant Man, report to SHIELD Base 45A for briefing. Highest priority, people. Make it fast, if you can."

I turn to Jay and jog over to him, ready to head off immediately.

"Jay, I've gotta go, the Avengers need me. I'll catch up with you later!" I call out to him as I start running in the direction of the designated SHIELD Base.

The area around me begins to become faint and blurry as I rush through the country, before skidding to a halt in the briefing room. I look around before rushing around the base and returning to the briefing room in a second. Must have left already. I run out swiftly and out of the base, heading towards the coast. Before I know, I feel the water splashing against my feet as I run across the water, too fast to sink. Heading in the direction of Kahndaq.

• DEADPOOL •

Wilson's frisky healing factor kicked in the instant the bullet hit his brain matter. Within a few seconds, the bullets were on the ground, and he lay blinking up at Deadshot's back. His shoulder had healed, too. Silently, he slipped a sai out of a sheath on his thigh. Before Spider-Man or the merc could react, Deadpool rolled and lunged forward, slamming the blade through the back of Deadshot's knee. He heaved it out, spun it on his finger, and slid it back into place.

"This is almost fun." He said.

I lay on the ground as the two mercs duke it out. They've taken a lot out of me. I feel blood streaming out of my nose, and my head is pounding.

"Well, I can tell you somebody isn't getting lucky tonight. You're way to touchy-feely for my tastes," I say as I spring off my hands and connect with a punch to Deadshot's face just as Deadpool stabs him in

"This is almost fun." He said.

"You have a very odd sense of entertainment. Have you sought professional help?"

I roll behind Deadpool and sweep out his leg, driving my elbow into his chest, sending him plummeting over the edge of the roof.

I leap over the side of the building, landing in an alley as Deadpool smashes into a dumpster...hard.

"No, mommy." Wilson said, with a groggy groan, "I don't wanna give grandma bacon while she's in the bathtub."

He rolled onto the pavement, out of the cavernous dumpster. Slowly, he steadied himself and go to his feet.

"This isn't even fair." He said, angrily, "We both know there's no way in Hell that the writers would let Spider-Man lose a fight!"

He readied himself to throw a punch, but stopped suddenly.

"But wait!" He cried, "We've lose SenseiofCheese!"

FMAB!

He teleported to directly behind Spider-Man, wrapped his arms around the wall-crawler's torso in a bearhug, and --

FMAB!

-- teleported to directly over the rooftop where they had just duked it out.

With a heave, he hurled Spider-Man at the rooftop.

FMAB!

He materialized on the concrete top of the building, waiting for his foe to land.

Spider-Man slumped onto the concrete, able to roll with the blow. He was quick, Wilson would give him that. Not quick enough, though. He drew his katana and heaved the blade across Spider-Man's chest, tearing costume and flesh, though only superficially. If one was to imagine a really bad paper cut, that would be what Spider-Man felt across his pectorals.

"And everybody hates papercuts!" Wilson declared proudly, albeit to no one in particular.

FMAB! He appeared again behind Spider-Man, delivering a similar strike to his opponents back.

FMAB! He found himself next to Spider-Man, now, but, instead of using his weapon, he simply put his hands to the side of his head and stuck out his tongue.

"Na-na-na-nanana!" He jested.

SenseiofCheese? What the **** is this guy talking about.

Deadpool is completely out of his mind, but I can't worry about that now. He's nearly done open heart surgery one me, and now he's teleporting all over the place, and not even the spider sense is helping me.

I swiftly kick him right between the legs, which sends him slumping over, gasping for air, "Gah...I hate breaking the man code."

I grab him by the head and drive it into my knee, and I hear his nose crack under the blow...not that it matters with the healing factor.

I decide quickly to get out of this situation, and head to the edge of the building, ready to swing away. I put my arm up and...

Nothing. Web shooters are empty. Terrific.

In the reception hall in Khandaq's palace, the meeting between Thor and Black Adam is abruptly interrupted by a servant.

"Lord Adam, the Avengers are attacking our men!"

Black Adam shot an accusing glare at Thor, and in one instant all the ground Thor had won crumbled beneath him.

"You sought to distract me while your friends ambushed my men!"

"No, Adam, I had no idea..."

"ENOUGH OF YOUR LIES!"

With frightening speed, Black Adam soared out of his seat, plowing into Thor and blasting them both through the wall of the palace and into the skies.

"Nope, not been dipping in vodka, or any other booze. I'm off the stuff."

Jay gives me an incredulous glance.

"What? A guy can't decide to not drink? I was getting a beer gut, which isn't good for wooing the ladies."

"Imaginary friend my ass. And who'se Jay?"

Nothing was ever simple where Stark was concerned.

"Never mind, look, I'm on my way."

A basterd's work is never done. I look down at Bruce Banner.

"Look, I gotta go take care of some business. Bruce, I'm glad you're yourself again, and I hope you stay that way a while. One word: Vicodin. Bye bye now."

And then my thrusters come to life, and I'm off, heading for the hospital to meet up with Rhodey.

Rhodey heard the line cut off as Stark spoke to whoever he was with. Fighting the Hulk? that was some heavy stuff. Part of Rhodes wished that he could have been there.

He turned his thoughts back to the suit he was hooked up to and wandered what the hell it could do. As soon as he thought it, the display lit up infront of his cybernetic eye. In that instant he knew everything he needed to about the technology he had been enhanced with. He could jet out of the window right now and put it to work.

But it felt wrong. He wanted to hear it from a human voice. He wanted questions answering. Probably best to wait for Tony to arrive.

"Sounds interesting. No control over his powers zhen?" I ask.

I give a sideways look at Jamie, "Apparently you don't care about the seriousness of our mission much...do you?"
"That about sums it up," Jamie said, leaning back in his chair and swivelling it around on it's pivot.

"Lighten up Kurt," he said "We may be saving the world but we're still kids,"

New York.

Three Days after the abduction of mutant Danielle Moonstar.

"Thankyou for all coming. My name is Rack Flag, head of the Department of Meta-Human Affairs".

Wolverine strolled over from the corner of the darkened room and butted out his cigar on the expensive looking table the rest of the new team were sat around. "We know who you are bub. Now why not skip the cookie cutter crap and lay it out straight?"

"Who'se the charmer?"
asked a dark haired young woman.

Wolverine shot her a look. She shot him one right back.

"This is Logan. Codename: Wolverine. An accelerated healing ability, adamantium skeleton and retractable claws. He'll be the field commander of this operation"
. Flag said. "And I suppose introductions for the rest of you are in order". He cast a hand to a dark skinned man, well built, his face covered by his dreadlocks. "This is Nathan Craig Jones. Codename: Coldcast. He has the power to control and manipulate the electro-magnetic spectrum".

Coldcast glanced around the table at the rest of the crew but said nothing.

"Next to him, Neena Thurman. Codename: Domino. An expert markswoman and tactician with the power to turn luck in her favor".

"The big man is James Proudstar. Codename: Warpath. Master combatant both hand-to-hand and with weapons. Super strength, super durability and super stamina".

"And Finally, Scandal Savage. Accelerated Healing and carries her 'Lamentation' Blades. I'm sure you and Logan will get on just fine".

"Now our intel has told us that they've taken the Moonstar girl hostage in a warehouse in an old industrial park on the outskirts of New Jersey. The place looks dead and abandoned to the naked eye but I can assure you that it's more heavily armed than Fort Knox. We don't know if they have any other hostages but as of right now your mission is to get in. Extract any civilians and get out. As little noise as possible. Got it?"

Logan nodded and folded his arms. "I know Dom and Jimmy myself and know what they can do. You sure your little girl scouts are up for this Flag? it might not be pretty".

Vandal flew out of her seat, her eyes blazing. "You think I'm not up for it? How about I gut you where you stand and then we'll see whose up for it?!""

Logan smiled and nodded. "Good. I'm glad you're game kid because honey I'm the best at what I do. And what I do ain't very nice!".

• DEADPOOL •

Deadpool rises to his feet, clutching his bruised groin. The pain quickly faded, but his ego would be sore for a long time to come. The sound of sirens echoed along the streets next to the building. And Deadpool glanced around, seeing that there were several snipers making their way to rooftops.

They'd been spotted.

"This is the police!" An officer well-acquainted with his megaphone called, "Put your weapons down and lie flat on the rooftop. There are armed officers on their way up!"

"You really, just, do not have any idea who you're dealing with, do you?" Deadpool breathed angrily to Spider-Man.

"It sort of defeats the point of an ambush to tell the bad guys you're coming, doesn't it?" Wilson asked rhetorically.

All three of them heard the sound of boots tromping up the stairwell that granted roof access. Suddenly, the door on the rooftop rattled on it's hinges as a few officers tried to knock it down.

"Who is itttt?!" Wilson asked, drawing a single machine gun from its perch on his back.

Spider-Man watched with wide eyes as Deadpool strode quietly to the door, heaved it open, and came face to face with the dozen or so police officers in the cramped stairwell.

"Nyah! You'll never take me in, coppers! Nyah, y'see?"

He heaved down on the trigger of his gun, mowing the police down one after another, laughing giddily as he did so.

I punch the robot with a precise blow, before performing a roundhouse kick, hitting it smack in the chest and knocking it backwards and into the wall. With a flick of my wrist I fling out an explosive batarang, which moves in an arc through the arc and slices into the exoskeleton of the robot before exploding, the remains collapsing to the ground. I listen to the incoming sirens and swing around, firing my grapple to the nearest roof and pull myself up into the night sky, away from the burning building. I land perfectly on the roof and turn back to the group of goons being arrested, smiling.

"Well that went well."
