The Avengers only one female team member?

yea i think it is when and where they first appeared. that is who owns the rights. scarlet witch first appeared in the brotherhood, which is from x-men. so fox has dibs. regardless of her being more associated with avengers, here origins are in the x-men, which fox owns.

That's not a bad assumption but quite a few characters have made their debuts in other comics. If I'm not mistaken both Black Panther and The inhumans made their first appearence in the F4 and Nova in Spiderman and yet Fox and Sony does not own the rites to them characters. Very dabatable between Marvel vs whatever studio on who owns the rites to a character. I would more then assume that Marvel would have not been so blind as to allow such an upcoming diaster and legal battle to take place in the future if they weren't more specific on how the rites of their characters were given.

It just makes sense for marvel to cover their @sses and be more clear on how the rites are sold to the film studio. Can you imagine if they weren't? I'm almost certain their would've been various legal battles on the rites to comic characters because said character first appeared in a property the studio has the rites to.

I would have loved to see Ant-man and wasp, but I wonder if a sequel Hank Pym, wasp, and Ant-Man (Scott Lang will join). I say this because in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man film doesn't it deal with Hank Pym and Scott Lang with Lang taking over? Could hank Pym become another charcter in Avengers like Giant-Man or Yellowjacket?

I believe Hank Pym's portion of the movie was supposed to take place in the 60's or so, as part of the superhuman serum process, and Lang would take up the Antman mantle in the present. I hope this isn't the case, though, as getting rid of Pym would make it hard for Janet to be adapted faithfully.

I'll say this again as I think this point is more pertinent than the fact the Witch and Quicksilver appeared in X-Men first:
I figure Fox do have them simply because they are Magneto's children.

It stands to reason any direct relations to characters Fox have/are using would also be theirs, otherwise Franklin & Valeria Richards, Havoc, Corsair (any others?) could all be used by Marvel (not that Fox would use Havoc or Corsair now they have killed off Cyclops, but still...).

They also had Kingpin, who was a Spider-Man villain originally and only became mainly a Daredevil villain over a decade later.

So where the character appeared first does not appear to have any weight in the matter. I do think their relationship to others does though.

They're using Havoc for First Class.

Lol. I was thinking post X3 and forgot about the prequels :yay:.

Does seem to confirm the point though: Direct relations to any characters they have already used are likely at their disposal as well.

As of 2009, Marvel owned the rights to Cable (son of Scott and Jean..s clone), so as much as I wish the grandfather clause idea was true, it doesn't seem to be the case.

Lol, I didn't know that. You say as of 2009?
Well, in the Fox X-Men universe, both Scott & Jean have been killed off now so they would never be using him anyway. Maybe they handed him back because of that?

It's possible, but if that's the case, they have a missed opportunity for a Cable/Deadpool collaboration. And I say 2009, because that was when there were reports of Marvel trying to get that movie rolling, but I don't think much has materialized from the efforts.

I'm surprised that anyone really thinks Scott is dead.

We're all comic readers here, right? We've all seen lots of movies, right?

What usually happens when a character is "killed" offscreen? We never see them die, we never see a body. Guesses?

Let's also add in that this occurred in a movie in which another character died right before our eyes (was literally taken apart) and came back at the end.

As for Jean being dead..."yeah right" is all I have to say. I've read enough X-Men comics to know better than that. :) Jean also "died" in X2. I certanly hope no one believed she was dead then.

Magneto also "lost his powers" in X3....whoops...maybe not. ;)

I think when Jean Grey says "I killed him" and when Xavier (the worlds most powerful telepath) confirms that she "killed the man [she] loved", it's a safe bet that Scott is gone. Xavier's semi-resurrection makes sense as far as the story goes, because his body died, but he was no longer in it at that point - he transferred his mind into the comatose body on Muir Island. And Magneto's part was just one of those scenes to give hype to the movie, so that maybe it wouldn't end up being The Last Stand after all.

If I was a betting man, I would bet my house that Scott Summers will return at some point. As a matter of fact, Jean will come back too. :)

It's an iron-clad rule. If a character dies offscreen...they didn't die.

I don't even think Fox wants to do a X4. They just want to a bunch of prequels/spin-offs.

Joss Whedon had an article in the latest edition of the Sunday Herald Sun (here in Melbourne, Australia) in the entertainment section on page 11 where he talked about the lack of female Avengers...

"It is true that the movie is going to have only one female Avenger but she will not be the only female character."

This makes me think Janet might be in the film somewhere but not as the Wasp.

when you need retcon you can use cable. so if they wanted to cable could just come back in time and erase the events of x3. he is a time traveler after all. could be like if he doesnt comeback he would never be born type of thing.

female shield agents or probably some background characters. eye candy for tony stark...

They may as well just stick Wasp in there. Her persona seems to cater to what Whedon likes to write for some of the less enlightened chicks in his stories, like Cordelia and what not.

You'd think that Joss Whedon would want more female team members, given that it seems to be his forte writing women.

I guess this confirms that BW will be a full blown Avenger and not just a SHIELD agent then.

Unless it's Wasp who is the female Avenger and BW is just a SHIELD agent, which would be much better IMO.

Maria Hill maybe?? I'm hoping for Wasp though. I'd like to see Ms. Marvel, but I really want her to have her own movie first.

yea maria hill and probably the other main shield chicks. also /film was talkin about rumors of maybe a female from thor would be a small villain to tie back into thor. so probably enchantress helping loki similar to what they did in hulk vs thor.

Maybe Sharon Carter and Enchantress with a Pepper cameo? This would set up two future movies and include a character from the IM franchise.

They seem pretty set on not having Wasp in any way shape or form.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the interview. Whedon might be dangling Johansson in front of everyone and letting people assume she's the one female Avenger, but that might not be the case...
