Only Their Knowledge Is Important: The Brainiac Thread

David Hyde Pierce sounds like an interesting choice, but he might sound slightly like Hal 9000.

As a villain, the classic version of Brainiac I found to be a little dull. I liked what James Marsters brought to the role in Smallville. Marsters redefined the character. What made him interesting was not just his superior intellect and manipulating Clark Kent, but his hatred for humanity. Marsters played the character so well. In contrast to classic Brainiac though, I never found the whole motive of collecting knowledge in small pieces that interesting.

Similar to Smallville, Superman the animated series made Brainiac from Krypton. I can't remember if that interpretation in the DCAU was for collecting knowledge from planets before destroying it or not, but he seemed a little more interesting than Brainiac from 'Superman Unbound'.

Not that this character is the same if not a little similar in some aspects, but that character, The Thinker...you've seen the TV show's The Flash take on 'The Thinker' which took the character as a more serious villain, and then we've seen a more goofy take of The Thinker from James Gunn, himself in The Suicide Squad. My concerns.

Unfortunately, I think DHP and Wallace Shawn were joke rumors while Bangs was the legit one.

So who’s the “brainiac” that put the typo in the topic title change? :o

I saw her in person a couple decades ago, when she was promoting one of her books at my local bookstore, and gosh ,was she beautiful.
In college, my girlfriend (now wife) was always described by my friends as looking like “the Aerosmith girl.” Because this was before Clueless came out.

So yeah, I’m biased as to Alicia’s beauty. Although I think the years have been kinder to my bride. :)

She was very much a Southern California girl , so, she always reminds me of home.

She caught alot of flack after Batman And Robin , but I still had a soft for her .

Completely out of left field casting choice for Brainiac for me, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The cyborg version of course. Arnold needs his DC redemption.

He can get his redemption somewhere else. I’ve waited my whole life to see Brainiac on the big screen and the last thing I want is to see it ruined with lines like “TIME FOR A BRAINSTORM!” when Brainiac attacks the earth.

In all seriousness, I don’t think that would actually happen but I don’t want to take the chance. And Arnold has never been convincing whenever he’s tried to play a scientist.

I think he would play the role straight rather than cracking puns again. He is older now and I think he would actually do well as the Cyborg version. But it won't happen it was just an out of the box casting choice.
