What kind of opening title sequence do you want to see for the Avengers? Do you want a cold open like the X-Men movies and Iron Man #1, or do you want an actual sequence with credits like the Spider-Man movies, Iron Man #2 and The Incredible Hulk?

I'd like to see an actual title sequence with the name of each actor shown. I find them always more exciting and it will highlight the strength of the cast. Also, I'd like to see a brief recap montage of each hero's individual movie played during the sequence (eg scenes from Iron Man, TIH, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow's fight in IM2 etc).

I support this

A big opening title sequence would psyche me up. I'm sure they'll figure out something great.

I'd like to see whoever the villain turns out to be arrive on the scene and randomly claim an unsuspecting victim... who is played by Brian Michael Bendis.

something along the lines of the S-M2 opening (minus the webbing and that terrible overly melodramatic score), drawn pics of The Avengers, taken from their solo movies (or in case of the SHIELD agents, from their cameos/guest roles).
No music at all, just the pictures. Not even opening titles, save them for a quick cut between the first and the second scene.

Being that we've already been introduced to the characters, there may not be an opening sequence, probably just the title "The Avengers" and that's it.

I fully endorse this idea.

My idea was to have seperate incidents where we see what a world is like when alot of people have superpowers. Basically we see things like what happens when someone with the power of say, Nitro, boards a plane and holds it hostage.

After several cases of deadly supervillian incidents, Nick Fury realises that enough is enough and he decides to endore a team of people with superpowers to fight what could be called "terrorism 2.0"

You're going to have all of that during the music and credits?

That's what this thread is about. Whether to have a title sequence with credits or just a cold open (eg with just the logo and then straight into the movie).

Maybe something where it shows classified S.H.I.E.L.D. files on the individual Avengers (like quick shots of top secret folders that have pictures of them and their known accomplices, skills, etc) and "found footage" of their antics (like amateur footage of Thor fighting Destroyer, Hulk fighting on the college campus, Iron Man battling the robots at the Stark expo, and some old footage of Cap in WWII whizzing by quickly in a montage). That might be too similar to TIH's opening, though.

Open the film up with an epic shot over the Antarctic ocean and ice all around. Maybe Fury can narrate something? Then the camera goes into the water and we see something frozen in the ice. Then cut to black with the title.

Similar to what Doc Jones said, I always imagined this...

Blackness. Silence. The credits begin to play. Slowly, the blackness becomes a murky blue, and, as the camera moves up, we see that we are underwater. We move up and up, and suddenly, the camera is out of the water, in the arctic. There are helicopters and boats everywhere, and lots of complicated-looking machinery. Overhead is an enormous helicarrier.

The credits continue to roll as we are now in a corridor onboard the helicarrier. SHIELD personel move back and forth as a flustered-looking Agent Coulson pushes his way down a narrow corridoe. Finally, he reaches a door. He types in a security code, swipes a card, and the door opens. Coulson steps into an observation deck, full of SHIELD scientists. Nick Fury stands at the head of the room, looking out of the huge front window at the arctic below. Coulson hurries over to him, and, as the last credit shows, says; "We've found him."

Slam cut to the title: "Marvel's THE AVENGERS."

Do people want flying credits like in the Superman movies, or just standard stationary words like in Iron Man 2? Or maybe something else stylized? Will all these stylized titles look outdated eventually?

It wouldn't be bad if they had a graphic novel-looking title sequence like Human Target.

I'd like to see something epic. Epic music and various quick scenes showing the origins of the characters. Kind of like TIH intro, only more condensed to show all the main heroes orgins.

This :woot:

I love opening title sequences, so I'd love one like a combo of TIH and SM-2's, recapping the various origins in some sort of creative, comic book-y way.

Black screen with the whole Marvel Studios Presents...

Have a sort of S.H.I.E.L.D database be shown searching through files. Have files and folders be shown strewn about desks as though someone has been going through lots of folders. Possibly a map similar to the one in Iron Man 2 highlighting certain locations.

As the names of the actors come up we see relevant documentation to their character with surveillance pictures/footage of the character and there current activities.

All through this have a powerful piece of music whilst at some point Nick Fury says in a voice over:

"And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat. To fight the foes no single hero could withstand. On that day, the Avengers were born."

As he says the Avengers were born the title pops up, 'The Avengers' or 'Marvel's The Avengers'. Meanwhile the camera has zoomed out a window of the office where the computers and files were and shows the audience S.H.I.E.L.D's main base, the Helicarrier, the camera pans around it flying in the air and we then go into our first scene, possibly on board.

I think something like that would be awesome because it gives the audience a look at all the characters so they can recollect exactly what info they need to about prior films.
The voice over give the audience an idea about what the hell the film is about and gives us fans a bone by using the awesome prologue.
Plus it gives Marvel a chance to shove a load of easter eggs in there which aren't going to confuse the audience.

For example on the maps they could focus on a place called Wakanda for a while. Show a file entitled K'un L'un or Olympus.
That way us fans get a tasty treat and a constant drool that we can analyse each viewing and the GA may be like 'i wonder what K'un L'un is?' but it hasn't been forced on them like they should know it and therefore detract from the movie experience.

Something like Game of Thrones intro.

Im not sure what Id want...

but I want it to be great and hopefully, original someway.

I had this idea a looong time ago, but I never put it into words. It would sort of be like the "found footage" and "SHIELD files" ideas, but also sort of different. It would be heavy with Newspaper clippings, magazine covers, and such, as sort of a tribute to the Comic Book trope of showing a bunch of newspaper front headlines about the events in the issue. What'd be really awesome about it would be how it could allow for further universe building in the eyes of the viewer. So like there'd be stuff like "CAPTAIN AMERICA DEAD?", "WHO IS IRON MAN?", "GAMMA MONSTERS TRASH CITY", "STARK ATTACKED IN MONACO", "BARTON WINS GOLD MEDAL WITH PERFECT SCORE", "NORWEGIAN GOD REPORTED IN NEW MEXICO"... etc. etc. They could also do little "stealth cameos" for heroes that aren't in the film- "SCIENTIST DISCOVERS SIZE-SHIFTING PARTICLES", "WHAT LIES IN WAKANDA?". They could even do "stealth cameos" to characters that Marvel Studios doesn't even own: "MASKED MENACE" could refer to plenty of heroes, so there'd be no way for the Sony lawyers to say they are using Spider-man. And "MUTANT" is a word in the dictionary, let's see FOX try to sue over THAT.

Great minds eh? :cwink:

I like the idea of Marvel sneaking in Spidey & X-Men references into their movies. But then it'd remind me that those characters aren't apart of the MCU. :(

how about the heli carrier flying towards camera. then zoom into the big window and we are then inside the carrier. nick fury is smoking and looking out the window then starts talking to a group of shield agents. he sort of gives a mission statement.
"we are the last line of defense" "we are beyond borders and beyond any one nation or government" "we are S.H.I.E.L.D." then he says agent coulson. coulson starts a high tech visual presentations like in iron man 2 with the glass monitors.

Fury gives another speech. "there will come a time when the threat is to great" "that's when we call in a special team" "that's when we call in the Avengers".

you could either have the team walk in then go to title sequence or go to the title sequence. the title sequence will have the high tech visual that coulson set up earlier that shows each member. gives their name and power while showing a video of them in action. this is similar somewhat to what pac master was saying.

Another thing with the Avengers intro should be the music should be awesome, like a medley. When we see "WHO IS IRON MAN" we should hear just a few instrumental chords of Black Sabbath (yeah, yeah, that isn't really Iron Man's theme, but admit it, whenever you see Iron Man make a dramatic entrance in a comic book, the opening chords play in your head), we should hear the "Lonely Man" theme when the Hulk's stuff shows up, etc.

Reading some of the suggestions here has changed how I imagine the opening titles to go (with music similar to "One Simple Idea" from the Inception soundtrack). I sort of hope that the credits will show as the camera sort of tours around the Helicarrier, showing various things related to each name as it comes up, sort of what SHIELD has got on the various heroes. For example...

Robert Downey Jr shows over a desk, upon which is a blueprint for the Arc Reactor, a photo of Iron Man and a newspaper about Tony Stark. By the desk is a Stark Industries crate.

Chris Evans shows over a wall, suspended on which is the prototype shield from IM2. Also on the wall is a Captain America propaganda poster.

Chris Hemsworth shows over a display featuring an aerial photograph of the Mjolnir crash site, a photo of the hammer in the ground and an astrological map similar to the one Jane and Selvig had in Thor.

Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner show over the SHIELD armoury, which contains many guns and a compound bow.

Mark Ruffalo shows over a dossier containing a blurry photograph of a hooded Bruce Banner, a map with several locations marked on it and a screen capture from the Culver University video of the Hulk.

The rest of the names (Clark Gregg, Stellan Skarsgard, Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston, etc) show over various things - a set-up similar to the end of IM2, something with the SHIELD logo, a science lab, a computer lab, etc.

Finally, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury shows over a file marked "Avengers Initiative".

Cut to the Avengers "A" seen in the Samuel L Jackson voiceover teaser, which then rotates to read "Marvel's THE AVENGERS."

Then, we go into what I described in my last post, with Coulson on the Helicarrier telling Fury that Captain America has been located/is onboard.
