Hey fellow Bat-fans,

I'm new to this side of the forums... but I know Norman and Sushi, etc.

ANYWAYS...

I was kinda curious.. after listening to the opening track of the "Begins" score, and thinking of the opening scene, with the bats quickly forming the Bat-logo and such.

Would you want this same opening, or a different one altogether for "The Dark Knight"?

I'd personally prefer that they keep the bats forming the logo, and possibly that same opening track you hear with the sweeping sounds. It just seems necessary. Kinda like the Spider-Man openings with that beam that was red, then blue, etc., and still kept the same opening theme.

Thoughts?

I want basically the same opening but I want the bats to form a metallic or more solid bat logo representing a more experienced Batman and have the background, instead of it being a brown sky, black or fade to black representing the title: The Dark Knight.

Yeah, form the bat logo (more noticeable) then fade to The Dark Knight, then fade into the movie.

I think it'd be pretty cool if the bats formed the logo, seamlessly fade into a shot of the signal in the sky, and start the movie off with Batman in action.

no, that was begins, bats forming, this needs a totally different opening.

Start with a bunch of street scenes with nothing major happening, just sights and sounds of hectic Gotham City at night. Or a long sweeping shot over the city, like the beginning of Blade Runner. Then into the action. Don't bother with titles or intros, the first image just fades up like the city was already living and breathing before we sat down for the view.

WB is after continuity in this series. A great way to get that is to have the same sort of opening/credit sequence for the films. I don't see why you wouldn't have the bats again, I thought it was great. Perhaps you could put a 'II' on the bats to indicate that this is in fact the second part to a series so it doesn't confuse audiences.

Does everyone remember how when the BB 10 Minute Preview was released, it had the same opening of Begins but went into the shot of Batman up really high on the building overlooking the city? That's exactly how I want TDK to begin. A very similiar shot. Everything about that in the 10 Minute Preview felt absolutely perfect to me. Have the same music to it, have it fade to black as the shot finishes and then start the movie.

yeah i get that  but it's not like there'll be a schism if the opening is different. the director and the cast is returning and the movie follows the themes of BB - there's your continuity

I meant more that the bats forming symbolises a beginning that is about to take place. TDK should open as if there's already something new in motion, and opening on the hubbub and tension in Gotham City could show that.

Maybe even rise off the streets to show the signal already in the sky, and then it breaks apart into bats.

Good question farmerfran. Personally, I say keep the bats forming at the beginning, but have the background different. Dont do it exactly the same.

They can do something thats similar but different at the same time. Like, for example, have the WB logo turn into the batman emblem (kinda like in Batman Forever) then have a hundred bats flying through the screen.

Like....when the WB logo turns into the bat symbol you can hear a s--tload of bats coming towards the screen then BOOM they all rush through the screen and we start the movie.

First of all The BAts swooping in to the logo in BatmanBegins was just ubercool.

So I say keep it but have them form into whatever new batsymbols is in TDk and change the colors in the background, maybe at night with a full moon in the background.

I'd like this. If TDK was to be a direct continuation of Begins, I wouldn't mind if they replayed a bit of that last scene from Begins, with Bats and Gordon on the rooftop. But, there's supposed to be a time-skip, right? If so, maybe the time-skip had already happened by the end of Begins, and/or a time-skip could happened during TDK. Anyhoo, I think it'd be nice, this idea of yours, blending into that ending scene, TDK starting with Bats tapping on the Bat signal, saying, "Nice".

i like that idea, but what if they used the logo opening with the thousands of bats (nice nod back to Begins) and then the movie itself opens with Batman standing atop a building watching over Gotham? b/c i remember that opening to the BB 10 minute preview as well, and i loved it

Same sequence but Maybe a different color sky. Like Dark Blue or even better Purple to commemorate the joker.

I wouldn't mind the bats again, it was coolness.

Same, but different. No titles. Having "Dark Knight" at the end would be just as poignant as having "Batman Begins" at the end of BB. I like the fact that Bruce is earning the titles of the movies.

I agree... they need to keep the bats for the beginning of the movie forming the logo (the same logo from the last film, but with a different finish - much like what everyone else here has been saying) and that's it. I don't think they need to place "The Dark Knight" anywhere... you know what movie you're seeing. Just open it up into a sequence of Batman standing in a gargoyl-ish position on top of a building with his cape flowing in the wind, and start an action sequence right away. Let the audience see how bad Gotham City has become since we last saw it in "Batman Begins"

I say keep the bats but I would like "The Dark Knight" title to be shown at the beginning of the film, because Nolan said the title was a very good indication of what the film is about and supposedly what Bruce will become during the film, so your basically telling the audience at the beginning of the film that it is different from the BB; reminds me somewhat of the beginning of the Prestige showing all the hats, giving you a heads up on the mystery's answer though you didn't know what the mystery was to begin with.

That reminds me - Memento, Begins, Prestige...they were all out of chronological order. Anybody see Dark Knight having this quality as well?

Nolan's films are always out of order. I wouldn't expect anything different this time around.

You've gotta stick with what works!

Well the Dark Knight 'refers to the title of the film' apparently. If the main plot is set over the course of one really shiiity night that'd be pretty cool I think.

It's not necessarily out of order but still a cool way to play with time. Flashbacks used to fill gaps in the main plot, keep the story chopping and changing.

I liked bats forming batsymbol, I hope that Nolan & Co do that for TDK as well.

I actually liked how there was no title sequence, that it just went straight to the movie.

I agree no title until after the movie. I like the idea that scifiwolf had with Bruce/Bats earning his names.
