Origin stories? Who needs them?

I don't remember Batman's origin EVER being touched on in a Superfriends episode.

The 80's Superfriends when Adam West did the voice of Batman.

Gotham City is literally held in the grip of terror by The Scarecrow's arsenal of Fear Transmitters. Scouring Gotham in search of Scarecrow, Batman is himself paralyzed with fright when he finds himself in the middle of Crime Alley, where years earlier the parents of Batman's alter ego Bruce Wayne had been murdered in cold blood. Taking advantage of the situation, Scarecrow intends to keep Batman trapped in Crime Alley forever by using Wonder Woman as bait--forcing the Caped Crusader to purge himself of his lifelong fears once and for all!
NOTE: This is the first time that the origin of Batman is told in any other media outside the comics.

Don't think I saw that one.
Here's how I see it; if the hero's origin has NEVER been told on the big screen before, then you should probably do an origin story. If it has, don't re-hash.

Agreed!

Ironic to hear West narrating this; it was probably his first time learning about it. "Batman-the Man With No Fear????"

Adam West has such a distinctive, recognisable voice that if he really were Bruce Wayne in real life, he wouldn't fool anyone when he speaks as Batman, unless he adopts the Christian Bale approach, but then he would sound even more silly.

I dont think the origin is overused...there are a handful of characters you dont need to do origins for....You have to remember the GA doesnt know these characters

Yeah, valid point. Idk, it just seems that lately, it's hard to find something special about the first superhero film in a franchise. Imo, Thor did a great job with the origin, giving a brief intro to it, and then just placing the GA in Asgard, allowing them to just accept everything.

There are potential downsides to origin stories; sometimes the first installment can have a "throwaway" vibe; "Let's get this crap overwith so we can move on to a better movie."
