Oscar Nominees Who Got Robbed

What should have happened (only my opinion!):

- Casino getting Oscar Nomination for Best Motion Picture

- Ragging Bull winning Oscar Award for Best Motion Picture

- Scorsese winning Oscar Award for Best Director (Ragging Bull)

- Fight Club getting Oscar Nomination for Best Moion Picture

- Ridley Scott winning Oscar Award for Best Motion Picture (Gladiator)

- Jim Carrey getting Oscar Nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role (The Thruman Show)

- Stanley Kubrick winning Oscar Award for Best motion Picture (The Shining)

- The Shining winning Oscar Award for Best Motion Picture

- The Pianist winning Oscar Award for Best Motion Picture

- Memento getting Oscar Nomination for Best Screenplay

- Goodfellas winning Oscar Award for Best Motion Picture

- Scorsese winning Oscar Award for Best Director (Goodfellas)

- Born on 4th July winning Oscar Award for Best Motion Picture

- Francis Ford Coppola winning Oscar Award for Best Director (The Godfather)

- Al Pacino winning Oscar Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Godfather, Part II)

- Ed Wood getting Oscar Nomination for Best Motion Picture

- Johnny Depp getting Oscar Nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Ed Wood)

It wasn't a robbery since Crowe and Gladiator was great, but Hanks and Cast Away should've won or at least split for Best Actor and Picture.

For me, the elephant man was deserving of a best movie winning as ranging bull was.

Ridley scott should have won for alien or blade runner even before for gladiator.

Kubrick should won not only for the shinning , also for a clockwork orange, 2001, paths of glory, spartacus, full metal jacket, etc.

Deep for ed wood was in a very diffcult year with great competition ( hanks for forrest gum, travolta for pulp fiction)

No one agrees that Jeff Bridges should've won an Oscar for Starman? Seems like anytime this film is mentioned no one has heard or it or they avoid it like the plague.

1984 F. Murray Abraham - Amadeus as "Antonio Salieri"

Jeff Bridges - Starman
Albert Finney - Under the Volcano
Tom Hulce - Amadeus
Sam Waterston - The Killing Fields

Those were the films that were nominated in 1984. I've seen Amadeus, The Killing Fields, and Starman. I guess F. Murray Abraham did a good job, but Jeff Bridges definitely deserved it for Starman.

Raging Bull was greater movie IMO.

For Blade Runner and Alien? As I know, usually only dramas and thrillers get main Oscar Awards.

Didn't see his other movies.

But I said only NOMINATION, not Award.

oscar robbery

Joaquin Phoenix NOT winning best supporting actor for GLADIATOR.

That was horrendous. EASILY the best-acted villain i can think of. Ever.

If FOX had any sense and released the director's cut of Ridley Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven" back in May of 2005 instead of the inferior theatrical version, then I'm pretty sure it would have garnered some Oscar nominations, at least for Edward Norton and Ghassan Massoud for their roles as King Baldwin and Saladin. If not for FOX's stupidity....*sigh* :(

I'm going to say this everytime. Johnny Depp for POTC.

I think Depp can have better roles (like in thrillers and dranas, for which actors usually get their Oscar Awards).

Yeah, Jack Sparrow is excellent and now iconic character, but it isn't that role, which would give Depp his award.

Comedies are defiantely getting more notice now then before, as it should. I think it' alot harder to act in a comedy then it is a drama but that's just my opinion.

Some people that were robbed:
Joaquin Phoenix-Gladiator
Tom Cruise-Magnolia
Tom Cruise-Born on the Forth of July
Ed Norton-American History X
John Cazale-Dog Day Afternoon
Leo DiCaprio-The Aviator
Christopher Walken-Catch Me if you Can

The Academy looks for Art Films, that's why you don't see comedies nominated.

christian bales been robbed a few times of a nomination

GoodFellas losing to Dances With Wolves - Wolves was good but come on!!! Good Fellas is one of the greatest flms ever made. Period!

Forest Gump over Shawshank Redemption - this happened for two reason but its still so worng! Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks and he was great as Forest Gump and should have won the acting Oscar and this flowed over to the movie award because everyone saw the film...no one saw Shawshank in the theater (28 million all time gross!) versus Gumps 330 million! But then again hindsight is 20/20

Its not fair, they should consider all genres.

The Machinist. I swear if that was some other big name actor they would have gotten a nom.

Blade Runner definatly got snubbed for Best Art Direction and that it wasn't even nominated for Best Cinematography is outrageous. I'm not sure about Best Picture though.

If it were the director's cut of Blade Runner, then it definatly would have been snubbed. That is one of the greatest movies ever made, and easily the best Sci-Fi movie to date. However, the theatrical cut was flawed, and it was up against Gandhi.

It was like the first Noir Sci Fi. Simply beautiful movie.

Bale's performance demanded at least a nomination.

DiCaprio was going against stiff competition if I remember correctly. Cruise was definitely robbed, one of my biggest complaints.

They forgot to make the character sweetly ******ed. :(

All the time. I think that there should be a best comedy and best drama category. There are some fantastic comedies that deserve some oscar recognition and they never will unless the categories change I think.

That's the way it is.

It's been said that dramas make the best movies, and it's true.Best Pic Oscars usually goes to the best film of the year, but not always.Pulp Fiction is most influential film of the 90's,but America fell in love with Forest Gump.

The oscar voters usually vote for the film they REALLY liked,a Safe choice like Titanic or Dances with Wolves usually wins,it's a pretty predictable race. That's why BrokeBack Mountain and Pulp Fiction didn't win, It's not a safe choice, but their nominations was proof of how well done they are.
