Oscar Nominees Who Got Robbed

Chicago didn't deserve Oscar Award, I thought The Pianist had been MUCH BETTER movie :(

Well on the topic of roles for black actors, Morgan Freeman seems to be able to get roles that weren't written for black characters, in the novels of both Shawshank Redemption and Dreamcatcher the characters he played in the films were white. No I suppose they may have written them for the screen with the idea of getting a black character to play the part, but I dunno.

That was a topic I found interesting in "Do the Right Thing" by Spike Lee, which is that there are a few black actors who transcend are racism because we now equate them with simply not being black...

I thought Chicago was great, I don't mean to be condescending, but do you say that cuz you don't like musicals or because you really think Pianist was a better movie. You have to judge Chicago as a musical, and musicals are not deep cinema fair but that doesn't make them any less in terms of genres, depth is not a measurement of greatness, just look at "Wizard of Oz"(Though I loathe this film :cmad: )

Kate Hudson should've won for Almost Famous instead of Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich

Goodfellas should've won everything it was nominated for.

Everything Titanic was up against should've won instead of it.

Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs of New York)
Johnny Depp (POTC)
Ian McKellen (LOTR)
Russell Crowe (A Beautiful Mind)
Martin Scorcese (Gangs of New York)

(if i think of more i'll post 'em)

I do like some musicals, but Chicago was just good movie, not great IMO.

The Pianist was one of the best movies'02 for me, it really deserved Oscar Award for Best Motion Picture.

I can agree, but I don't think it was robbed, it was close since Chicago was a really well made film. And again this is why I put more stock in nominations than in actual wins, because 95% the time Academy Awards is spot on with it's nominations.

His performance in Training Day is nothing special. Every rapper can play the tough crooked cop. Seriously. it is not exceptional in any way.
You must be joking. Denzel thoroughly deserved his Oscar in my opnion. His performance was amazing no s**tty rapper-turned-actor could do a better job.

Dancing with wolves over godfellas.

Ordinary people over ranging bull and goodfellas

Shakespeare in love over saving private ryan

Helen Hunt over Julie Christie

Genna Davis over Michelle pfeiffer

Jessica tandy over michelle pfeiffer

Julia Roberts over ellen burstyn

Roberto benigni over ian makellen

A clockwork orange not even nominated.

Chaplin, Hitchock, O toole, Richard Burton, Groucho Marx or cary grant never winned.

by the way , Kate Hudson was nominated in the supporting actress cathegory , not in the main actress cathegory.

Them too? Wow.

The color purple was indeed robbed at the oscars, I laughed at the idea of Oprah being an actress beforehand, but once I saw it, boy can that woman act! She's the character I felt and cared for the most. Hugely surprised
Agreed.

Chicago was good but didn't deserve so many awards in my opnion. A little bit overrated.

Did anyone else feel it was slighty wierd/wrong how Jamie Foxx got nominated for support actor in Collateral when he was obviously the main actor... I mean it's a great performance but it was like a cop-out sot hey could nominate more people...

Agreed.

But I am not agreed with some Academy's choices (not only in Best Picture category).

Same story that Al pacino for supporting and Brando for main actor in the godfather.

Big Lewboski, John Goodman, did an amazing performance at the very least I figure he should of gotten a nomination.

I totally agree with you. Goodman owns that movie.

No, Kate was nominated for Best Actress. Frances McDormand was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Seriously? i think both were nominated for best supporting actress. Ill take a look on imdb and then i tell you.

While he was not nominated, to this day, I still think that Sean Astin deserved at the very least a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance in "Return of the King".

Either way, Hudson should've gotten Best Actress. And Billy Crudup should've at least gotten a nomination for Best Actor. As well as Philip Seymour Hoffman for Best Supporting Actor.

Oh, and Kubrick should've won Best Director for The Shining. That film has the best camera work I've ever seen.

Kubrick should have won for many movies: the shinning, a clockwork orange, lolita, full metal jacket, 2001, barry lyndon, spartacus, paths of glory, etc. But you know, the many of the times, unfair and oscars are almost the same word.

Agree, Kate Hudson should be in the main actress cathegory. Sometimes in the oscars, the main and supporting actors nominations are very confussing.

Do the Right Thing is great, I need to see Malcom X and Boyz n' the Hood since I'm a fan of both Spike Lee and John Singleton. But I'm really interested in seeing Bamboozled but I hear it can get pretencious at times.

I'm not a huge Spike fan. I mean, I appreciate and respect his style and vision which is as unique as any out there (and I have to give him props for pulling off a mainstream flick like Inside Man, which was so well shot and acted).

Never seen Bamboozled, but I've heard enough about it. :O

Malcolm X is my father's favorite film, as he sees it as the ultimate look at the life of a man dedicated to his vision and belief.

P.S. Cmil, your a cool guy

Tell me something I didn't know. :p

25th Hour is a fantastic movie and I'm really surprized it didn't get any nominations.
