Ok so i read this artical at http://www.**************.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=17025

Now i know it says he would love to reprise his role in First Class but that would be freakishly scarey if he started hanging around younger versions of the other x-men characters.

But to me i see this as good news, of course they wouldnt ask him to return for First Class its a prequel movie right? isnt it? it is!

BUT Think about this, X-MEN 4, he wants to come back, yeah hes saying first class becauses its whats on the table. and Wolverine 2 is a prequel so he would have to be younger casted cyclops if he was to return in that. But with Donner wanting X-Men 4, and Masden wanting to come back...

remember we had a limited time with him on x3 which is why he was killed off earlier... but then it wasnt really stated that he was killed so...

X-MEN 4 could potentially see the return of Cyclops! with Masden as Cyclops!

I am sorry... but, these people really need to start doing their research before opening there big mouths in an interview.... :whatever:

I hope he comes back. He's perfect for Cyclops. They wrote him bad, though.

I would really like for him to reprise his role as Cykes and really give him something to do. He was jealous boy in 1, absent for most of 2 and dead in a matter of seconds in 3. Bringing him back would be a bit lame though, especially as damn-near everything at the end of 3 was undone already (Prof. X, the cure, etc)

i just dont like recasting unless we totally redo the whole thing and it would be amazing

yea he was a great cyclops, but was underused. it's a shame. i just hope marvel studios gets x-men back, fox studios is killing me. just imagine how the costumes would look with marvel studios in charge.

The problem was that they didnt make him look like a leader as most or everyone just followed whatever wolverine did.

I'm sorry, but I disagree 100%. Maybe it wasn't as pronounced or blown up in the nerd's faces as they would like, but there was never a question of who had authority or who was meant to be Xavier's #2.

really? when was this displayed? -

In X-Men he is considered the leader of that team but cyclops spet most of his time helping his wife than leading the team, the only one who lead the team foward was woleverine, even to putting himself forward to stop the machine at the top.

In X-Men 2 - He becomes Xaviers Aid until he is kidnapped... Most of this time you assumed Jean took over as second in command but because wolverine knew more he pretty much lead the way till he wanted his showdown with striker.

In X-Men 3 - Xavier turned to storm as the leader of the x-men as Scott was a changed man...

-- so where exactly did Cyclops lead or was considered the leader. Granted he was supposed to be the leader, but he didnt get the oppertunity to be one.

Wow. Seriously? I think your perspective is massively skewed. You need to watch the movies again more closely. There was never question about who was the X-Men's main field leader. Like I just said, it may not have been how you may have wanted to see it, but there wasn't any confusion in the least. Arguably, the only other person who would've been perceived as the team leader would be Storm and rightfully so.

Personally, I never like Cyclops' portrayal in the X-Men movies, and I think Singer for some reason just had a very low opinion of this character, hence his decision to push him to the background after the first movie. With Singer's involvement in the First Class, I hope history won't repeat itself once again.

Singer's X3 was going to showcase Cyclops since it would have been about Jean and her ascension to being a god-like Phoenix. I think unleashing Cyclops and having him go all out in that storyline would have made Singer's X3 that much more epic, but of course we didn't get that after he left.

X3 had the potential to be as epic if they had Cyclops return during the final battle to kill Jean, and in that case, could have made X3 so much better.

Hmmmm...Maybe, but not necessarily so...

I hope he isn't recasted, surely he can be made to look a little younger...

Who? Marsden?

Uh, no way. The movie is supposed to be like 10-15 years before X1, right? They'll barely be able to make Marsden look as he did in X1 let alone 10 years before that. They would have to pull a Benjamin Button on him to knock 15 years off. Marsden turns 37 this year. It'd be hard to turn him 21 years old for 2 hours. :D

I think his role was toned down so Wolverine (who there was never any doubt would be the star of the X-Men movies) can do his thing. If Cyclops barked out orders and Wolverine actually listened to them all, Logan's cred as a badass would have been damaged. Did they make the right choice? No, but it was what they needed to do to showcase the character that would move the series along. Despite that, there really wasn't any question that Scott was the field leader, second only to Xavier in general.

I don't think it was a problem until the third film, where Cyclops was written out and Wolverine was forced into his position.

Ironically, I thought that Cyclops' best performance was in the third one. It's a shame he was killed, because there could have been so much more potential in his role for the rest of the film.

i do understand that Cyclops was the leader of the x-men, my point being was that Cyclops was pushed aside as leader as when you look at the three movies the first one wolverine sort of leaded the way, the second one he was kidnapped so really jean and storm took over and in the third well as i said he was a changed mand...

He wasn't pushed aside as leader. He was just pushed aside in general, but then why not say that every other character that wasn't Wolverine? I'm looking at what he did with what role he had.

I think the mistakes involved were that Wolverine was toted to be the star of the series even from the first movie, so of course Scott's leadership skills were toned down in the first movie. Then we have him kidnapped in the second one so the X-Men are without their teacher and the leader of the team, which makes sense for why they then joined Magneto, because he was the only one there who had a plan. His death in the third film was at a point when Storm was already planned to be his replacement, so we never really did get to see Scott in full form, but hopefully First Class will give us an inkling of what he might have been like, and maybe suggest that falling in love with Jean has allowed him to take a slightly more relaxed approach to how he deals with people.

Marsen did a good job, but the movie Cyclops was so poorly written and trampled all over. Almost every single thing Cyclops does in the X-Men movies (especially 2 and 3) is written and designed to either make Wolverine look good or to empower Wolverine in some way. He's kidnapped so Wolverine can be the leader. He's killed so Wolverine can stop the Phoenix with "his love". I like the Wolverine character, but the stench of Hollywood politics and Hugh Jackman's paws is all over these movies... too much so to fix it. X-Men needs a full revamp. Make Cyclops the leader and Wolverine a TRUE loner/rebel... not a supermodel pretending to be one.
